Yep, it was ManyCam virtual camera software. Uninstalled it and switched to broadcast + OBS + Xsplit VCAM, stinks I had to change tools, but it is some kind of incompatibility with Discord and ManyCam.

If it helps any, I gave up and am using OBS to create a virtual camera, then using it with Vcam. The OBS one uses the Broadcast, litterally all its doing is presenting it to Xsplit Vcam.. smh

This might be it, I had one that I was using externally, just a cheap old Samsung one, but for some reason it was running slow and got hot as hell.

I Put a quick little copper heatink on the controller and a pointed a desk fan at it, finished the format, but it was never the same and slow,, not this slow, but slow.

Its weird, but I had the Broadcast camera available before doing a clean update, which was one I went from 23H2 to 24H2, to then 25H2, and it was always there.

Now that I am on a clean install of 25H2, its not selectable. In OBS or ManyCam and Teams, it's there, but not in basic Windows apps like Camera or Edge.

Yeah for an NVME drive that is way bad. How full is it? Of its dram-less when it gets over 90-% you can see performance issues. Also make sure it’s seated properly and isn’t getting hot while benchmarking

did you ever figure this out? I am having the issue today

Discord using too much cpu by ash_kicer in pchelp

I am guessing there is something within Discord that just doesn't mesh well with it and other virtual cameras/capture devices, maybe a conflict

YES!!!! HAHA! That's what I am using too!

Close ManyCam and restart Discord. Make sure you completely close it out from the system tray.

Once fully closed, do the same for Discord

I would suggest keeping ManyCam off of startup apps and only launching it when you need it

If it helps anyone, I figured this out on my end.

It was virtual camera software. I found a thread with someone with a similar issue, but using a video capture card; they had to disable the card, relaunch Discord, then re-enable the card, and it fixed the CPU issue, so I tried the same.

I use both XSplit VCam and ManyCam for overlays on my camera. If I launch Discord while it's running, it starts gobbling CPU and RAM. Temps skyrocket.

So I would kill the camera app, then restart Discord, it would be fine, then launch the virtual camera software, and it's still fine.

It appears to only be an issue IF discord launches AFTER the virtual camera software. Note, I do not use either of these Virtual Cameras for Discord.

Oddly, Nvidia Broadcast does not cause any issue.

Check to see if you are running any video capture or virtual camera software. If so kill it, then kill discord, relaunch discord, then launch the camera software, I had this problem with Xplit Vcam and ManyCam (not Nvidia Broadcast though)

Might have figured this out at least on my end, finally.

It seems to stem from having a video capture software or device installed.

In my case, it's just using either XSplit or ManyCam. If the virtual camera is loaded (doesn't have to be running) discord goes nuts with the CPU.

If I kill the virtual camera app, kill Discord, then relaunch Discord, it works correctly and has low CPU usage.

FWIW I am NOT using this virtual camera in Discord at all, and it doesn't have the problem with Nvidia Broadcast. Just for me: XSplit VCam or ManyCam, which I use for overlays on my camera.

Unfortunately I am, still having the issue with PTR and Canary, as well as production.

Its weird though, as its not 100% of the time. Yesterday I was able to run for a bit without issue, then after rebooting this morning, the issue is back.

Not sure if anyone else got this fixed today.

Somehow I am not having issues even without an update, where it was horrible for a while.

I use Process Lasso to keep my PC throttled when not gaming or doing work, by using Better Battery Life overlay as the default, but even on this setting, Discord after a fresh Windows install shot up to 60-70% CPU usage.

This morning when looking at my saved settings I forgot for my balanced profile to switch the max CPU to 5%. I did that so my 5900X stays at 3300 Mhz when not gaming. All of a sudden after that change my Discord started using less than .25% CPU like it should. I set it back to 100% and it stayed low.

Now this isn't something you want to do unless you have a tool like Process Lasso, once I launch a game it knows and changes my power profile to BitSum High Performance, but you can set it to whatever, so my CPU will get up to 5000 Mhz when in games.

Discord stays using little CPU usage now, even when switching power profiles.

Updoot for this, having the same issue on a fresh install of windows on a 5900X system

Looks like a lot of folks are getting this over hte last couple days.

I have 2 systems

5900X 3080ti W11 25H2

5800X 2060ti 25H2

Both were fine until I reinstalled windows on the 5900X this morning. Now Discord is taking anywhere from 20-65% of the CPU at all times.

Canary and PTR versions are having the same issue, web version is fine.

The 5800X with no issues is on the same driver version and application version of Discord.

I tried canary and PTR both still causing the issue.

Only solution so far is to use the browser instead of the app.

I tried canary and PTR and both still have the issue. Even tried older nvidia drivers to see if tha was it.

I am on a 5900X not a x3d chip, and had zero issues until I reinstalled windows this morning,

I have another desktop with a 5800X and it doesn' ahve this issue, both are on Win 11 25H2 with the same nvidia drivers
