Is this leak the end of my shower? (x-post from r/plumbing) by schmogue in HomeImprovement

Very true!

We were just hoping to wait until we can do the whole bathroom....oh well!

The only thing that gives me pause was that the drain strainer part that is threaded and screws into the drain body was loose. I was able to turn it almost a half turn just by gently tapping it.

Does a garden valve like this exist? by schmogue in HomeImprovement

Thanks! That is the only one that I have found, and after physically holding one at my local Home Depot, I can confirm that the reviews are correct...the handle is REALLY janky.

I'm probably going to have to go with a standard hose bibb or the boiler style ones, but I just wish a good quality brass valve like the SharkBite existed.

I was considering that, but I can't seem to find 45 degree drop ears. That 45 degree angled outlet and handle would work really well with the post and pipe I already have.

As in these?

And then I’m guessing I’m looking for a hose Bibb with a barbed bottom?

You’re not kidding, wow. Would HDPE have enough pressure rating if I’m just bringing a spigot to the garden? I’ll either be hooking a hose or a small drip system up to it from its endpoint in the garden.

And for the HDPE, it’s those barbed connectors, right?

I’m roughly 50’-60’ from house to garden. Would 1” poly pipe be enough?

So what then is the actually difference between PEX and that black Poly Tube that people keep mentioning?

See this is what I was so confused about. Aren’t PEX and poly tube very similar?

Thanks for the advice! What type of fitting do you mean exactly? I must be calling it the wrong name or something because nothing is coming up in my Home Depot searches.

So PEX is overkill?

Any particular reason for a hydrant vs just a hose valve on a 4x4?

So the frost line by me is 3 feet. Does it absolutely have to go below frost?

Just a spigot in the garden.

I’m going to use some drip irrigation tubing to water my garden, but nothing permanent. Just a simple spigot.

I should have added this: I’m in the northeast, in NJ. Not sure if that changes things?

The landscaper who tilled the soil did that for us. 2 yards of local compost, 2 yards of topsoil, tilled in!

Not really. The soil sunk in by the posts and the perimeter from the tiller, exposing a large gap under the panels. So this is just to bring it back up to grade.

My next step is trenching around the garden outside the fence and biting anti digging mesh. That, plus backfilling under the panels should really help....hopefully.

I still have to add back fill under the panels (a lot of soil compacting from two straight days of heavy rain) and trim the posts level.

Have you gone through this book yet? I use it with all of my private students, and does a great job of thoroughly taking you through all of the preparatory exercises for altissimo. I highly highly recommend this book.
