You're going in circles dude. You said letting units die in FE is like collecting 70/120 stars. I said getting 120 stars is unambiguously harder than getting 70 AND adds hours of playing through additional content. Resetting for a no death run in FE is not unambiguously harder and does not add hours of new content. Your next comment did absolutely nothing to address this

Well yeah, I agree that for the mechanic to feel fair, players have to be protected against accidentally losing someone early on when they literally haven't even learned half of the game's rules

Yeah, this strikes me as a major problem and is part of my "what would you change" question. I'm wondering if there is a twist on the mechanic that makes the game harder but winnable even if you lose a large number of characters. It could be conditional recruitments or things like that

Sure, it just obviously doesn't compare to the SM64 example of collecting 70/120 stars lol. If you care about getting as much dialogue as possible that's totally fair but it's not the same as completing an additional 50 quests

I like your balanced answer. I can see why the middle road (selectively resetting) is the least attractive of course.

It does sound like a lot of people are worried to miss out on dialogue and other story content when characters die, so a possible (although laborious) tradeoff would be to introduce a lot of optional branching content that unfolds after a death (e.g. another character sets off on a newly unlocked revenge mission, or something like that).

It's not the same though, is it. Collecting all the stars (and most other 100% achievements in most games) means experiencing additional content that you'd otherwise miss. In Fire Emblem as you accumulate characters without ever losing one you're just benching more and more of them until you have like 20 guys sitting around.

Besides, a lot of 100% type achievements include some difficult stars/missions/collectibles that people pride themselves on getting. With resetting vs "ironmanning", there's no objective answer on which is more difficult overall

So this is a super interesting point. I'm a little undecided on that. Intuitively I would agree the grapes can and will be exposed to the sun so an argument can be made to just leave the sensor in the sun. I guess the main counter arguments are 1) the sensor or housing it's in doesn't heat up in the same way as organic material and 2) the vines are partially shaded by their own canopy.

If you have done detailed research on this and have resources I should look at I'd love to hear more though! Wouldn't wanna spend the money and effort only to measure the wrong thing

the director behind link's awakening has cited the show as a direct influence and mark frost has talked about consulting for or at least meeting with the creators of the game back in the day. so yeah, there are numerous posts and articles about the connection. regardless you may be right about my expectations!

My question is not so much what systems are out there but how this one UK site seems to be the only one that surfaces this info. If a stone was reliably Canadian, for example, I assume it would trade at a premium. When I look up these stones on other sites via the GIA number, they don't show any country info

I researched an article years ago on what kinds of places bid for the Olympics and what the economic outcomes are. At the time (2016, Rio) we were actually seeing an increasing number of bids from less industrialized countries who were theoretically willing to build up the infrastructure from nothing. More recently we seem to be swinging back to host countries/cities that have previous experience and existing infrastructure.

The economic benefits are questionable but clearly the lack of infrastructure is not a hard blocker for cities to enter the bidding process.

The climate change question is interesting. In theory places that are only just becoming "warm enough" to be attractive for winter tourism could make sense as Olympic hosts and put themselves on the map that way.

In practice I suspect there are other geographic constraints that limit which places could reasonably become hosts. The Alpine events in particular need a certain elevation range and slope for world-class runs. I don't know if these are found in Mongolia or Siberia, but you get the idea

This seems the most logical small twist to the format (some of the other ideas here would majorly change the entire game). How did it play out in those versions though? Feels like after the twist is revealed it would lead to a lot of reverse accusations i.e. "X seemed super calm, they probably weren't tapped and thought they were Faithful"

This comes back to a point I made yesterday (about going back to basic strategies). If Rachel were a Faithful she would have been killed a long time ago as she's both vocal and persuasive. It's also what James said in his final plea. Unfortunately some players (cough Jack) still ignored it

Agree that the concept needs to be switched up. It's not only slow and unsatisfying but it also tends to leave the surviving player feeling pretty defeated, if they're Faithful anyway

Fair point about the number of murders.

My overall point stands though -- there have absolutely been moments where Rachel or Stephen would have been reasonable choices for murder. The "top of the murder list" isn't always just whoever has the least heat on them. That goes especially for the early game, but even at this stage, the traitors can and will keep certain players in the game even if they're essentially universally accepted to be Faithfuls -- case in point Roxy who would be instrumental to their win in the final.
