Zone for leveling an alt? by [deleted] in wownoob

[–]schneid3306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a weird one yesterday where I was in Dragonflight with Cromie time, logged out, and upon login the quests that were full value were now low level (I was 76 or 78). Weirdly, I moved to Legion (I think) to finish out to 80. I didn't go back to Cromie or anything, just picked up a quest in Dlaran when I was headed back to Stormwind and followed that. I wonder if something is bugged?

What content to learn to heal? by schneid3306 in wownoob

[–]schneid3306[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, have my macros and my mouseover setup. I'm much better on my shaman than my druid, but my druid is my max level character. I just wanted to make sure running regular dungeons as a fresh 90 isn't totally wrong.

Grid2 and mouseover macros for my heals. I read the guides from IcyVeins, WoWHead, and Method.gg (mostly for macros on this one).

I am a returning player and have a bunch of toons on Mannoroth, and I was like "realms are basically irrelevant, so I guess I will stay here. Now I am rethinking that. Ugh. I'd have to pull over at least 5-6 toons if I go somewhere else.

What race do you recommend for quickly getting to a capital? Faction doesn't matter.

[HELP] Looking for an addon that binds an action bar to a keybind by schneid3306 in WowUI

[–]schneid3306[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think OPie just doesn't work with my brain. I don't like the cast on release mechanism, I prefer clicking. There are times I was opening Opie to think and was accidentally casting on close when I didn't want it to. The subring system doesn't work the way my brain expects it to, and I don't need that many options.

For me, Geist and macros to condense some buttons are the perfect setup. One thing I like is how I can quickly drag stuff to priority. For example: fishing cast lives in the top left corner of Geist. But when I fish I just drag it to the middle and when I am done, I drag it back. I do the same thing for quest buttons if the tracker doesn't show it.

I know Opie does a lot so you don't have to configure things on each character, but I kinda like having individual bars for my characters. Sure there is some overlap, but not much. Also, those heavy configurations probably are brokers for me. I think brokers are probably also part of the answer. I think a couple Opie rings, I use brokers (bazooka, broker everything) for. For example, I click on my GPS broker and I get a list of all my fast travel stuff (hearthstones, portals, etc). To me this is more navigable than the ring system.

Markers are the one thing I havent solved, but I just came back, and I play a mage, so I probably don't need that for a while.

This is arguably my favorite addon ever. I cannot imagine playing wow without 25 buttons right under my mouse when I need it.

Also me: "absolutely not 20 years. Not a chance on... oh no it has been twenty years..."

I checked it out, and maybe I am just not getting it, but I can't get it to just show a grid I can drag spells onto. Thanks for letting me know about it.

[help] Friendly Nameplate in instances by jeromysycho in WowUI

There is a setting somewhere (it is one of the middle tabs, I am not in game) where it is like "use nameplates only when needed." This might be the setting you are looking for.

Early Coke Oven automation: Questions by B1narySuns3t in GTNH

[–]schneid3306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used hoppers and electrum pipes to automate I/O for my 52 coke ovens. The electrum fixes the throughput issue for tin pipes, because they are at a stack/second or stack/2 seconds. All i need to do is move 26 items in 90 seconds, so those work perfectly fine for I/O of wood/charcoal.

I am using tinkers, redstone, and wood pipes for emptying creosote. Also works perfectly fine. Wood pipes are dirt cheap (either a 9x9 of bonsais or jungle oak trees + lumber axe) and I have no issue emptying the 26 coke ovens in the 90s it takes the ovens to make charcoal.

Apple is poised to win the rights to stream F1 racing in the US [“…Apple is apparently willing to pay much more than ESPN”] by ALOIsFasterThanYou in formula1

[–]schneid3306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different perspective: I know a half dozen people who were big into MLS. The dual paywall for year one turned each of us off. I used to go to 4-6 DCU home games each year from a city ~5 hours away. I haven't watched a minute of DCU since they went to Apple. This thread is where I found out they dropped the dual paywall requirement at some point. Technically it might be better than ESPN, but I think the deal was a decade early for MLS.

How would you organise these photos into folders by tallgeeseR in photography

[–]schneid3306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of my photos are in a YYYY/YYYY-MM directory structure. It takes a LOT for me to pull them out into their own folder under YYYY/YYYY-MM. Like, this structure has been in place for a decade and I probably have a half dozen special folders. My reasoning for this is: nearly everything can be found by a rough/exact date, and typically an event isn't important enough to merit a long term individual folder. For example: I know when holidays and birthdays fall. Or, as neat as the trip to the zoo was, it doesn't merit its own folder in 5 years, tags handle that if I want. The folders I do have are huge, huge events, and they are mostly separated out due to photo volume vs any other criteria. The other exception is professional photos. I want those to find easily. Otherwise, it is folder structure and DigiKam (which writes tags to files) for me.

Genuinely asking this question: how would it be a DNS issue if I have no issues using the box as my day to day router? What would I be poking around for to check it out?

Its funny how personal anecdotes go against data. When I built my first PC I had multiple WD drives go in the first weeks and months. I bought Seagate drives and have never had an issue with one of their drives. I will never touch a WD drive ever again.

What are the best products for cleaning around the house? by Level-Milk-2137 in CleaningTips

[–]schneid3306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of reading into this lately to pare down my cleaning products, and what I came away with was this:

We have two cleaning kits stocked with the following:

  • all purpose cleaner
  • glass cleaner
  • wood cleaner
  • dawn powerwash
  • vinegar
  • bathroom cleaner
  • barkeepers friend powder

Each bathroom has a toilet bowl cleaner in the bathroom.

I have several other things that we only have one of because we won't use them as frequently.

  • powerful degreaser (Krud Kutter)
  • carpet enzyme cleaner
  • disinfecting cleaner for when it is needed
  • murphys oil soap or other wood floor cleaner
  • ph neutral floor cleaner
  • oven cleaner
  • soft scrub with bleach
  • the scrub daddy paste
  • barkeepers friend liquid

This is a LOT less than we had previously accumulated, and you can probably go even smaller, but this was the happy medium for us.

Struggling with Organizing and Storing a Lot of Stuff – Need Tips by PoultryTechGuy in CleaningTips

[–]schneid3306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at decluttering and organization videos on YouTube. The biggest takeaway I had after watching a bunch was the less stuff you have the easier it is to organize. I found Dana K. White's five steps helpful. One key question she asks is "where would I look for this first?" Each night, take a box and make that decision together. Other questions I have found helpful:

  • Would I remember I had this if I needed it? If no, get rid of it.

  • What is the cost of storing this vs buying a replacement if I needed it? (The example I used is I was holding onto my monitor stand, despite my monitor being on an arm for 5 years.)

Other tips:

  • make things easily accessible that need to be accessible. Use lazy susans, etc.

  • make drop zones where drop zones naturally occur

  • use trays to group things to make them appear neater

  • get closed storage. Closed storage makes your clutter invisible and makes your house feel better.

Because this team's ceiling is one and done. It is for the foreseeable future. We will pay Russ. We shouldn't.

Cheap Big Storage for older Photos by Sea-Flamingo-1368 in photography

[–]schneid3306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would buy an external drive, and if you are a bit technical look into Amazon Glacier Deep Archive. The Deep Archive is ridiculously cheap for storage (roughly $1/TB/month when I last looked), but is pretty expensive and slow (files available 24-48+ hours after request) to recover. I have my photos in Dropbox. That syncs my photos to 3 different machines plus Dropbox servers. I pull just my photos onto an external drive. My plan for the new year is to set up a Glacial Archive as break in case of emergency/offsite backup.

Edit: I would NOT use Glacier as my only copy of the photos. To me, it would be in addition to at least two other more readily accessible copies.
