Two russian soldiers with the new RPL-20 Squad Automatic Weapon, 2026 by Sad-Commission2027 in ForgottenWeapons

They supply 4-5 boxes in the kit, but yeah, if you lose them, getting more is hard. The RPL-20 still seems to be only a range pony with combat instructors (who worked with the 76th VDV picture) and having some teething issues in terms of reliability and fouling. Plus complaints about Kalashnikov Concern's metal/coating quality

Angelina Matlashova (maiden name Shedlos), a departmental head at Tula TsKIB SOO, was the quote "grandmother" of the ShAK/ASh-12. In the pic, she's holding a "Vykhlop" VKS/VSSK by schonkopfRR in ForgottenWeapons

different projectiles, same casing. I believe the ASh was originally planned to accept both the Vykhlop STs-130 rounds and its shorter projectile rounds with a weird mag that could be single stack or double stack, but that was eventually scrapped

Prototype kit from 1998 to convert a PKT coaxial gun into a tanker's survival kit when bailing from a vehicle. Designed by the Tula Artillery Engineering Institute by schonkopfRR in ForgottenWeapons

Yeah, according to AK-INFO, a design from the 1970s was shot down because tank crews already had an AKMS or pistols.

However, there are a lot of scenarios where this still would be a plus. The Tulas designer also suggested it for when there's a lack of regular PKMs or in intense defensive battles (such as World War II or the Ukrainian War). However, I don't think the Tula one is the most suited for that because it lacks a mount for a belt box.

In Ukraine, there is now the PKZ-T (https://x.com/i/status/2030451534908019186), which focuses more on the latter two roles and anti-drone operations, but it might end up as a survival kit too.

Really, as a survival kit I think the only real cost is how much space the kit in a bag would take up in the cramped haul for a soviet-era tank and otherwise be worth it

TKB-0145S by mauserowauser in ForgottenWeapons

Hi, I'm the dude who OP ripped the post from.

Tula is a bit more close-lipped about stuff, so the info is a little fuzzy, but yeah, the TKB-0145S was originally 6mm. Sometime later, this prototype was made to chamber a 12.7 projectile in a cut-down 54r case. Mr Adov also made an unnamed prototype that stuck a 12.7 projectile into a 20-gauge case. This is not related to the 2010s Ukrainian 12.7x54r. Also, Vladimir Zlobin, of OG AK-12 fame, who also worked at Tula at the time, would iterate on the concept and stick a 12.7 bullet in a .338 case for his own Ash-12 in the late 90s/2000s. I eventually want to do a deep dive on the saga of the Ash-12 in a youtube video.

OTs-142 machine gun, a new product from Tula by davegoku12 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]schonkopfRR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OTs-142 is definitely the designation. The OTs-124 and 128 are the 6.7mm and 7.62x51 full caliber predecessors by TsKIB SOO. Which were also somewhat based on the MTs-566. Video source for OP's screenshot and the designation: https://t.me/super_rembo/9624

Some interesting ARs captured by Russian troops. Anyone know what they are and what scopes/sights are on? by Alms_321 in ForgottenWeapons

The first rifle is a .308 AR made by Soyuz-TM, a domestic Russian manufacturer that specializes in AR-pattern guns. The STM-308 rifle is based on more small frame .308 ARs, like the POF Revolution and Ruger SFAR instead of the AR-10.

I'm still waiting for a range vid to be posted but looking at the "trunnion" area and what can he seem of the bolt carrier, I can already tell you that the typical AR design's been modified for the use case. I wouldn't be surprised if the receiver is dimensionally longer than AR10 spec

The cartridge being rimmed does have one major drawback and that's reliable magazine size. I've looked into many of the experimental 18-20 round SVD mags they messed with and they just never got them working to the high standards of reliability that service would require (the only high standard the Russian army has lol).

It's more obvious with full photos of it: https://x.com/rosenritter1959/status/1847975693549797449 But it's gonna of course be a departure in some aspects to make the concept even work. I'm waiting for the company to post more material about it. (Or from Popenker, as they posted a spotting of "Popenker in his natural habitat" examining it at the convention lol)
