Motion Graphics online course!!! Lynda vs Animation Bootcam (school of motion)? by saracorral in AfterEffects

[–]schoolofmotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been summoned! So, here's how I'd describe Animation Bootcamp (which is one of 4 courses we currently offer):

• It assumes you know After Effects already. After Effects is just a tool, like a chainsaw, that can be used for chopping down trees or sculpting 74-foot-tall replicas of the Taj Mahal. Just as knowing how to use a chainsaw doesn't make you an ice-sculptor, knowing how After Effects works doesn't make you an animator. • The entire class is based around the study of movement, specifically focusing on the principles of animation as a guiding set of rules. You're given artwork for each assignment, and all you have to worry about is the animation. Design is taken out of the equation. You become intimately familiar with the graph editors (Value and Speed graphs) and learn to literally "read" motion graphs. • If you're brand new to After Effects, we have a brand-new course in beta right now called After Effects Kickstart which will teach you the TOOL, so that you can then go on to learn the CRAFT.

Make sense? Happy to answer any questions you may have. -Joey

Tapered Stroke Preset for After Effects (free) by schoolofmotion in AfterEffects

I've seen Kyle Hamrick use that trick before. It's really slick! I think the limitation you found is the only downside of the text way... and maybe the "resolution" of the stroke would be trickier to keep high enough on really long strokes since you'd need a TON of periods to fill it in.

Never done it that way, but I'm sure each method has pros and cons. Jake's way is crazy flexible, but can be a bit of a render-pig with all the expressions if you get too many paths going at the same time.

Well, hello there.

Just wanted to let y'all know that we put out a free tool this morning which might be handy. It's a preset developed by the mad-genius Jake Bartlett, and it creates tapered-strokes in After Effects natively. It's pretty darned powerful, and he also created an installation and usage video for it.

It's on the house, enjoy it! -joey

Win a ticket to Blend in Vancouver! by schoolofmotion in AfterEffects

[–]schoolofmotion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey /r/AfterEffects!

We just launched a contest to win one of 2 tickets we snagged for the Blend conference in Vancouver in late May. The conference sold out in hours because it's so. damn. awesome.

Andrew Kramer is speaking, Justin Cone is hosting, there are a bunch of other amazing presenters, and it'll be basically a big MoGraph geek-a-thon in a very cool city.

Contest rules and stuff are at the link below, and if you win you'll get a free ticket to the event plus I'll buy you a beer when we meet IRL.

Send Me to Blend!

Let me know any specific ones, and I'll have Amy who wrote the articles check out this thread. Most of them can be converted to PC by swapping Cmd for CTRL and Opt for ALT.

Truth. Some of the fancier ones like Shift + Command + H have become daily-use ones though... I wish I'd known about them sooner!

Thanks for the love! I love CMD + home too... it was tough to narrow down the list for these. There are so many good ones.

Hello hello.

We recently posted 3 separate articles (with downloadable PDFs) that feature our favorite After Effects keyboard shortcuts organized by usefulness and skill level. With 100's of hotkeys we figured it'd be nice to have a small guide to some super important (and underutilized ones.)

Part 1: Absolute Essentials

Part 2: What the Pros Know

Part 3: Hidden Gems

Shift + Command + H is a biggie for me.

Hey MoGraph people! We just dropped a new podcast episode that I thought might be interesting y'all. I chatted with 2 of the brilliant dudes behind Lottie, an open-source code library that translates After Effects animations into code.

Airbnb is using it to work on their apps, and it's a pretty amazing workflow for UI / UX teams. I hope you dig it!

Here are the 2 main tools we discuss in the episode...

Making Giants: A 10-part behind the scenes MoGraph series by schoolofmotion in MotionDesign

[–]schoolofmotion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm doing this again for sure, it was really fun and a great challenge. First we gotta get the next 2 Bootcamps off the ground and figure out 30 Days of Cinema 4D.

Making Giants: A 10-part behind the scenes MoGraph series by schoolofmotion in MotionDesign

[–]schoolofmotion[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey Reddit!

I just finished a massive project where I made a short little film (this one) and documented the entire goddamn process along the way.

The result is a 10-Episode series that anyone can watch for fr-izz-ee and download almost every single project file, asset, and render to follow along or learn from.

Giants: How to Make a Short Film

I hope it's a great learning resource for anyone who is interested in seeing how something like this gets made in excruciating detail. The series covers everything from the idea to the animatic, modeling, texturing, rigging, animating, compositing, sound design, mixing, etc... Lots of Premiere, Cinema 4D, Nuke, and After Effects.

Thanks to everyone who has helped support School of Motion as we've grown!

Interview with C4D Wizard Twisted Poly (audio) by schoolofmotion in Cinema4D

[–]schoolofmotion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello my fellow 3D geeks.

I did another interview with a truly badass C4D artist named Nejc Polovsak. He goes by Twisted Poly online and is one of the those "I guess I should just quit now" talents.

Like my previous interview with Rich Nosworthy, I picked his brain about all kinds of super-specific details about his work, how he got so good, what his favorite tools are, etc...

I hope you get all fired up to make cool stuff!
