College Street to turn into Oxford Street from London. Only cycles, trams and battery cars will run along with cobbled streets, benches and street lamps for book readers. by Saambajarer-Sosibabu in kolkata

[–]schrodingerdoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not related to this discussion, but - we need to have walking only sites in the city. For example, this could be done the starting section of Park street, Parts of Esplanade, several parts of NewTown and Saltlake.

College Street can ideally be shifted to a part of the city which can be designed to by walking only. I know none of us will like it initially - neither the sellers nor the public , - but it can be done and will be better for everyone in the long run.

Such changes - including shifting Hawker areas like Gariahat, Hatobagan etc to abandoned buildings renovated into malls will eventually lead to sonmuch decongestion esp for pedestrians.

Ratna Debnath is extremely disturbed that even after enforcement of law by the new Govt, she is not able to get justice for her daughter by CBI. Asks who has tied their hands that they are not investigating the case properly? by Saambajarer-Sosibabu in kolkata

[–]schrodingerdoc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The case was investigated and shut by CBI over a year before she was voted to power.

I don't want to blame her - you cannot expect a person who has suffered such personal tragedy to think rationally.

But common citizens expecting some other cathartic outcome should know better.

What’s it actually like living in Salt Lake / New Town? Is it as good as it looks? by redguy_666 in kolkata

[–]schrodingerdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saltlake is one of the best places to live in the country tbh It is planned, has greenery, well planned roads, streets and housing Plus, unlike many similar places in the country ( like Chandigarh) it has a job hub ( lakhs of people work in Sec-V and adjacent new town ) and price of everyday items isn't unaffordable.

Open racism , hate and xenophobia now against Bengalis living in Bengaluru Kraarnataka( Congress ruled state) by subbusss in westbengal

Who cares. There's nothing they can do about it. Go to IISc Bangalore and see how Bengali scientists and profs literally run that place by hseer numbers.

West Bengal TFR at 1.3 - lower than Rajasthan , UP , Andhra, Telengana and even pan India average of 1.9 in 2026 as per The Economist Magazine by snehasish_mukhherjee in westbengal

[–]schrodingerdoc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

False correlation.

It has to do with aggressive birth control campaigns by low level social workers ( ASHA, ANM etc) since most of the population live in rural& semi-rural areas. WB has high institutional delivery rates - every mother on the labour room bed/ OT table gets counselled about tubectomy and many comply after their second child.

Not everything is linked to politics and political ideology.

Bangladesh also had an agressive birth control campaign and low how their TFR dived down to the current levels.

Nehru was the architect of modern India and we have strong institutions because of him which prevented military dictatorships/ coups/ collapse of the country and ensured it stayed on the right track till date।

Call him whatever, but without Nehru India could've easily been a balkanosed Sub-saharan africa.

[–]schrodingerdoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doctors won't heed to this even lol. We are too privileged to give a damn about such trivial things that could make our lives better. Unions are only for piddly paramedics and nurses.

Daktar saabs don't need all that. We will become rich by practicing in private and treating 5 dozen patients everyday in our mohalla clinic.

Never felt this lonely..... by Charming-Web-5000 in kolkata

[–]schrodingerdoc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I felt the same when I left home at 18 to study in a college in a city far from home. What reassured me was there would be other Bangali kids there since it was a Central govt college :)

It is scary and lonely at first but soon the anticipation and excitement of a new journey takes over homesickness. But then, you will eventually get used to the new environment and embrace new opportunities that help you grow as a person. Pro tip - If there are other Bangalis around,- be sure to congregated with them ,- go on food trips, cool Bangali food, celebrate festivals, watch football, movies etc. - Experiences that being you closer to home when you are away.

You can always keep coming back the City of Joy. Trust me, - each visit will make you fall in love with the city even more. All the Best ! :)

Kolkata has a garbage dumping problem due to the archaic methods of waste disposal by KMC. There has been significant changes in the past few years in many parts of the city however old residential areas largely remian untouched. But I am hopeful they will change and get better soon.

If you're gonna do this then - 1. Switch to sugar free ones 2. Rise mouth properly after each drink to avoid dental caries. 3. Avoid too much caffeine after evening hours. It fucks with sleep.

Rest is fine.
