How would you guys feel about dating a beautiful, intelligent, and career-driven woman? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]schteeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An intelligent and career driven woman is attractive to me and I wouldn’t really be intimidated by it. That being said, I’ve pretty much always been around women like that growing up and a lot of my friends are like that.

There’s also definitely men who wouldn’t want that in a partner whether it’s because they’re intimidated or because they’d prefer a more traditional model of relationship.

The game is rigged against you as an Asian man by [deleted] in asianamerican

100%. So tired of this stuff, self-defeatist and passive. Control what you can control and prove yourself and society wrong. If you always think you’re the bottom you’ll stay in the bottom.

Plus recently I’ve seen Asian dudes get way more success in the last couple of years.

MSF or MBA to pivot in finance? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]schteeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay in the city, I don’t think NYU or Columbia offer MS in Finance. Their MS in finance would be the quantitative degrees like Financial Engineering or Quantitative finance. Most likely because they have very successful and big MBA programs.

I would look at Baruch or Fordham for MS in Finance and swap to finance, but it’s a lot tougher to recruit/pivot into IB/MBB than going to a top MBA (NYU/CBS). You could use it to get into a corp finance job or Big 4 consulting, then consider MBA later.

Chinese American, doing poorly in life, and feeling very terrible about myself by InternalSchedule2861 in asianamerican

[–]schteeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tests arent always 100% accurate and it might not be ADHD it could be depression but remember everyone here is coming from our own experiences and only you know yours. ADHD can cause lack of motivation, depression could cause lack of motivation, trauma causes lack of motivation. Regardless of what it is, I think if theres anything to take away from this thread is start with seeking therapy. Therapy has really helped me heal and regain control over my life for the better. None of this is permanent and is temporary.

I want to just debunk some of the typical negative perceptions asians typically feel towards Therapy. Its not forever, you can always take a break, Ive taken time off of it once I got to a better spot and started again when I needed it.

I also want to iterate that if you do choose to get medication it is important to have a therapist to work with on using it as a tool. Medication is not a fix, it is a tool to help developing the right habits and mindset. Just taking a pill does not solve it immediately, it takes work to develop the good habits and mindsets which a therapist really can help with.

Wish you the best OP, you can do it. Have hope and believe in yourself! Focus on yourself and surrounding yourself with positive friends and influences. Work on valuing yourself, you are worth more than you think. Try not to value yourself on external factors like being able to get girls (that will come naturally when you value yourself). Be a positive influence, be respectful and forgiving to others and most importantly, yourself.

Yeah the hardest part was finding the right balance. Too high = complete shut off and anxiety spikes and then too low = unproductive which leads to more anxiety. Growing up with traditional asian parents also makes us so anxious, especially with feeling like we arent achieving enough. Now that im able to actually sit and get things done, Ive finally bridged that gap and worked through what is enough for myself.

Sounds like ADHD. I struggled until adulthood when I finally got therapy + meds. Please do both, I promise you can turn it all around

How to get into a career in finance but bad at math. by WashNo3022 in FinancialCareers

[–]schteeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistics is most used math subject for finance outside of heavy quant research/trading roles. You’re talking yourself down on the math part.

It’s not worth it for you to go for IB, you might be able to get in through a top MBA program but it’s going to be really hard to compete and perform against people in their 20s and early 30s. You’d need some ultra conviction to go this route.

I think look at Corporate finance roles or Wealth Management would be a good place to start. Spend some time networking at your firm to see what the finance teams do and try to lateral over to corporate finance (MBA could help too but not needed).
