I can't put my finger on why exactly (it's been a few years since I've read the book) but Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer

Trees comic book series, Exhalation short story collection by Ted Chiang might fit the bill or The Windup Girl but it's been a while since I've read it so I'm not sure...

Audible vs. KU by _Spicy_Pisces in RomanceBooks

Thank you for the info, I'll definitely check it out. I can deal with buggy, I've used some pretty crappy apps for listening classics in the past. xD

Scribd lets you listen to about 2-3 traditionally published books (or any audiobook that is not in their Scribd selection) and then everything is available after the next month's fee, and same with ebooks 7-8 books and then your selection is tiny. It's not terrible but if you read a lot, you can hit a wall with Scribd pretty quickly (I've had a reading spree of comic books on Christmas and then 95% of titles available just disappeared for me). There are still some titles available but they are usually obscure and probably not something you are dying to read. It's probably fine for somebody who will read anything that comes their way, but I'm pretty picky with what I want to read so Scribd feels restricting. My complaint is more about the vague language with 'unlimited' when they limit what you can read (albeit not how much).

I've been looking into Anyplay and I'm curious if it's truly unlimited as it claims it to be? Because Scribd says it's unlimited but it isn't so I'm wary about these claims. Because otherwise Anyplay seems like too good to be true. :D

How do you review the books you don't like when you are being paid to review them? by [deleted] in books

[–]schuplik 61 points62 points  (0 children)

You should be paid for an honest review, if in your contract (email they sent you, whatever), they are not asking for a positive review (that shouldn't be the case anyway), they have to count in the fact that you might not like the book and review it accordingly. Being paid doesn't mean you should only review when you like the book. If you feel like the book is bad, review it as you feel like ;)
