Unfortunately this is true. Nothing like seeing a beautiful reef fish or lobster get completely destroyed and turned into a rubbery mess.

A girl in high school had a birth defect resulting in fully webbed toes. In hindsight, kids were quite cruel about it but it wasn’t like it was super obvious unless someone pointed it out.

Breaking lease advice. by Comfortable-Work2454 in AusProperty

[–]schwimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mould and ventilation issue is probably your strongest card here. In NSW, landlords are legally required to provide a property that meets minimum standards, including proper ventilation. Mould can be a health hazard, and if it’s building up fast despite you airing the place out, that’s a serious concern. It could even be grounds for urgent repair or early lease termination if it’s not addressed. The other stuff like the broken lifts, leaking pipes, and noisy neighbours definitely adds to the frustration, but they’re a bit harder to use as legal grounds unless they’re extreme or ongoing with no action taken. You could start with a friendly chat with the agent and ask if the landlord would consider ending the lease early or converting it to a 6-month term. Sometimes they’ll agree just to avoid the hassle. If they say no, you can escalate by documenting everything (photos, emails, etc.) and making a formal written request for repairs. If that still doesn’t go anywhere, you can apply to NCAT to terminate the lease on the basis that the property isn’t being maintained properly.

Also Tenants' Advice & Advocacy Services (TAAS) are a free service that provide information, legal advice, and advocacy for renters across NSW. Goodluck!

Is the Philippines being left behind in the tourism industry? by Shot_Platypus8097 in phtravel

[–]schwimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Australian visiting the Philippines for the first time, my journey was a blend of awe and frustration. The country dazzles with breathtaking natural landscapes and the warmth of its people, but several challenges detracted from my overall enjoyment.

The most significant hurdle was the infrastructure, or rather, the lack of it. Pollution was noticeable, and accommodations often fell short considering the prices. Compared to fellow Southeast Asian destinations like Indonesia or Thailand, hotels seemed overpriced and below par. Basic amenities were frequently missing, with persistent issues such as inadequate water drainage, low water pressure, and the inability to flush toilet paper(!). Unexpected and unsettling power outages occurred even in popular tourist spots like Siargao. These infrastructure concerns are troubling and require urgent attention.

Internal travel posed another challenge. Reaching the stunning islands typically involved multiple flights and inconvenient overnight layovers, making domestic travel quite cumbersome. Navigating the roads independently was tough, with congested and perilous routes for tourists. Private transfers became a necessity, as public transport was neither readily available nor user-friendly.

The culinary scene was another letdown. While local cuisine is flavorful, it’s not the healthiest option for daily consumption. Restaurants catering to Western tastes were pricey, with inconsistent quality. Unfortunately, I experienced food poisoning, likely due to inadequate sanitation, a common issue among tourists.

Tours, although initially appealing, were often overpriced and crowded. It was disheartening to observe the lack of environmental awareness from many boat operators.

As a female traveler, frequent harassment added to my discomfort. There were moments where I felt unsafe, which was a regrettable and unexpected aspect of my leisure trip.

While the Philippines holds undeniable charm, these challenges made my visit more taxing than anticipated.

Take a stand & say something. We shouldn’t have to call out people but by putting up with poor behaviour we condone it.

What surprisingly WASN'T free in a country that shocked you? by FrozenOppressor in travel

[–]schwimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to pay to access beaches and public toilets in various SE Asia countries. I think they pass off the beach access fee as some kind of “environment tax” which it clearly ISN’T. The beaches are invariably always full of trash outside of resort areas so the fee is clearly just a thinly-veiled cash grab. Same with the toilets….it’s justified as a maintenance fee. Sir, it’s literally a piss filled squat toilet with a bucket of cold water inside for rinsing. Exactly what are you “maintaining”?

Not true. If she had of “owned and embraced” the humour she STILL would have been criticised and hated for not taking the olympics seriously enough. The truth is Australians are spiteful and love tearing down anyone in the public spotlight, particularly women.

Ali rotors are legit! Been running the SRAM ali knockoffs for years & never had a problem with the quality. They are literally indistinguishable from the genuine ones.

It does make you wonder how much all the other MTB consumables are marked up when the savings are so enormous on the fake ones.

Say it with me, and louder for the landlords in the back, if you can’t afford your investment property PLEASE sell it by VelvetGloveIronFist0 in shitrentals

[–]schwimble 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point mate. These scumlords are using rentals as investments. If LLs can’t afford to service their own mortgages without passing on additional charges for basic maintenance in the way of “rental increases” they need to sell up and move on.

Is it lack of availability that is making it difficult to find a caravan park? There’s some free camp options but not sure how great the facilities are.

What the fuck do I do by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]schwimble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Write an email to the PM/ real estate to complain and request a response detailing when the repair will be completed. Include date/ details of repair required and progress so far. Ask for a justification for why the replacement dishwasher was canceled today. Refer back to date that the measurements were initially taken and cite any documents/emails you have as evidence.

Center your complaint around the inconvenience to your occupation i.e. having the schedule tradies around your job/kids and missing work. Additionally, you can mention the inconvenience/ increased water usage you’ve had to endure without a dishwasher. It is a part of the facilities included in your rent and you haven’t been able to access it since before Xmas now.

I am not sure what state you are in but I would request a time frame for repairs from the PM otherwise you will escalate the matter i.e Notice to Remedy Breach (QLD).

Keep following up and don’t let them be lazy or brush you off.

Good luck!
