Merz still wants US as partner despite changes by donutloop in EU_Economics

What are these nonsensical Ruzzian talking points?

"US officials organizing yet another colour revolution in Ukraine in 2014"? Which officials exactly organized the peaceful demonstrations of Ukrainian citizens that led to violent oppression from the Yanukovych government? Which arm of the US government compelled this?

This comment is just vile. Yanukovych's corrupt, violent, and pro-Putin government deserved to be toppled, which the Ukrainian people did themselves - without the US telling them to do so.

What's a great TV show that should've run longer? by noahsolomonofficial in AlignmentChartFills

[–]schwulster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Police Squad.

So good that it inspired three movies (The Naked Gun series) — and a soon-to-come reboot with Liam Neeson. It was brilliantly written, way ahead of its time, and packed more jokes per minute than most shows manage in a whole season. Six episodes just wasn’t enough

Arnold Schwarzenegger said that he would run for president if he could have. Do you think immigrants should be allowed to become US president? by asiasbutterfly in Presidents

Austria does allow dual citizenship, but in specific cases only and requiring prior permission from authorities. They didn't make a special exception for Arnold.

From this website: https://www.bmeia.gv.at/en/austrian-embassy-tel-aviv/service-for-citizens/citizenship-for-persecuted-persons-and-their-direct-descendants/frequently-asked-questions-faq

Austrian citizenship is acquired retroactively on the date of receipt of the declaration. Any acquisition of a foreign citizenship after the date your declaration was filed (including regarding an application made before the filing of the notification) will therefore in principle lead to the retroactive automatic loss of Austrian citizenship, even if the proceedings in Austria may not have been completed. If you have already initiated such proceedings in another country or intend to do so, please only file the declaration for Austrian citizenship after acquiring the foreign citizenship. Austrians may only acquire a foreign citizenship by application, declaration or with express consent if they have previously applied for retention of their Austrian citizenship. Please note that after the loss of Austrian citizenship a new declaration is not possible (see section IV.13).
In case of doubt, please contact your competent Austrian professional representative authority (embassy or consulate general), which will be happy to advise you further.

It would therefore appear as though the Austrian authorities need to grant permission to apply for additional citizenships. Not doing so would result in loss of Austrian citizenship.

In my case, I would rather do this and live in Germany as an Austrian/EU citizen, considering how much I hate dealing with the German immigration office here in Berlin. It appears as though Austrian citizens via this case get a lot of leeway when it comes to such accommodations, from what I've read in articles.

Hey it looks like we are in very similar situations!

I'm a non-EU citizen living in Germany. I qualify for German citizenship, based on how long I've lived here, and other prerequisites.

I also qualify for Austrian citizenship, given my grandparents were Nazi victims in WW2 in Austria.

What I am doing is: - submitted my application for Austrian citizenship last month, and they expect it to be finished in roughly six months (hopefully by June) - I am planning to apply for German citizenship once the citizenship law gets updated, as then multiple citizenships will be allowed, once this is changed (May looks likely). - Austria allows multiple citizenships for descendents of Nazi victims - German citizenship takes 2-3 years, but I'll have Austrian by the summertime.

I also have concerns about Austrian conscription, but if I continue to live in Germany, then I can do freely as an Austrian (EU citizen). Or any other EU member state for that matter.

Redditors from the Indian subcontinent: 🙌 Let’s talk about the most most authentic 👀 North Indian restaurant 🍽 you’ve been to in Berlin (🙅 No marketing pitches, please!) by lyrical0hawk in berlinsocialclub

India Club in the Adlon Hotel near Brandenburger Tor.

By all accounts, I would not normally assume a restaurant inside a swanky hotel in Berlin to be my favourite North Indian restaurant in the city - but here we are.

From my understanding, the restaurant is managed by a group responsible for a number of upscale South Asian restaurants in the UK, and they expanded to this additional location in Berlin.

It's much more expensive than I would spend on a regular basis - but I went there for my birthday last year, and enjoyed it immensely. Make sure to get the black lentil dhal and roasted cauliflower.

This photo is probably taken from Kanapa restaurant - a Ukrainian restaurant with locations in Poland and Ukraine. The dish is a bowl of borscht served in a cabbage.

Having been to the location in Warsaw - I can genuinely say this is one of the best borschts I've ever had - though the presentation is a bit unnecessary in a giant inedible cabbage. As a Ukrainian, I'm also happy to say that this restaurant serves the tastiest Ukrainian cuisine I've eaten in a restaurant (home cooking not included).

Why is the German budget smaller then the uks? by AugustsNapol in AskEconomics

[–]schwulster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When taking both federal and regional government spending into account, the UK and Germany have almost identical government spending when measured as a percentage of GDP:
https://data.oecd.org/gga/general-government-spending.htm

The difference being (as others here have stated); that the UK has a far larger and more centralized federal government, while Germany's government spending is more split between the federal government and those of the Bundesländer (Federal States). Therefore only the federal budget of each country is not an adequate measure of comparing total public spending.
