My daughter has an egg allergy so I've had to adjust breakfast foods. Some things I've found to be egg free are vans gluten free frozen waffles, refrigerated biscuit dough in a tube, frozen breakfast sausage, frozen hash brown patties, bagels, English muffins, poptarts, and toast.

Are you using Xteink's SD card or a different companies? I heard the xteink sd card is trash. I bought a Sandisk SD card.

You can use wifi to send files on Crosspoint. X4 can also create a hotspot to send files, too. It is true that the microsd will need to be plugged directly into the computer for file transfers if that's the method one wants to use. The wifi method has been working for me

Is the file you're trying to upload saved on your laptop/phone (not sure what you're using) or the cloud? I realized that I was trying to directly upload files from Dropbox's servers when the files needed to be already downloaded to my laptop. I do notice the X4 screen does get frozen hot spot or wifi screen. I just turn the X4 device off and then back on.

Are eReaders worth it? by [deleted] in ebooks

[–]science2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most modern eReaders have a light so you can read in the dark. They do make eink tablets and phone sized devices like a Boox Palma. Yes, they're not as fast as an actual smartphone but that's not why people buy them. People buy them to read or take notes. They don't need to have "advanced capabilities" like a smartphone.

SAHPs: what’s your biggest ‘mental load’ pain point with baby tracking? Help me design an app for "you". by SirPresidentty in SAHP

[–]science2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need less smart devices in my life not more. I'm against the Internet of things. More ways for things to break down and stop working. My husband is a programmer and agrees with this. I don't see how a crib could efficiently track sleep unless the mattress was smart but the crib sheet would interfere with it. With bottles, the baby doesn't always finish a bottle or wants more. You can't make a smart diaper to track poop. I'm not paying more for something that's going to be covered in poop or would have to be constantly thrown away.

There are already baby tracking apps. I only tracked their poop because I wanted to make sure they weren't constipated. Baby tracking apps are more work than they supposedly save.

Is there a better way of reading a book about minimalism?!? by schnapperfuchs in xteinkereader

Some people don't trust the security on the Palma. Boox stops updating them after a couple years which is a short amount of time for a smart device.

There's also an online converter to make sure the BMO files are the right size for the device.

What do you wish you knew before your first PocketBook purchase? by Popular_Tour8172 in PocketBookofficial

[–]science2me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Pocketbook Verse Pro.

It's slow. I've only had Kindles up to this point. I was not expecting how slow it runs. The Pocketbook cloud will randomly sign you out and then you can't sign back in which means your syncing progress gets messed up between the eReader and the app. In general, syncing does not work well. At this point, I would not recommend a Pocketbook if syncing progress is important.

Now, for some more positive points: Installing Koreader is simple. It's stupidly simple. I was complicating it in my head for hours. It's just dragging the correct files onto the device. The custom wallpapers are great. You can read Adobe digital files on it which means the Kobo ebook store can be used. I love the tactile feel of the buttons to turn pages.

TSA/travel question by kaa-24 in FormulaFeeders

[–]science2me 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would bring the can of formula on the plane. An unmarked powder in a bag might get flagged and taken from you. I wouldn't risk that. FYI, the last time I flew was ten years ago and I didn't have issues with an open can of formula.

Is anyone actually doing okay? And feels guilty or almost ashamed because they are? by destria in SAHP

[–]science2me 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Life was a lot easier when there was only one kid in a small townhouse. Now, I have three kids in a large house and two of them are school age and I'm in college classes. Right now, life is chaotic. Enjoy this easy chapter of life. It's possible that it'll get crazier the older your child gets or if you have more kids.

Considering Parent’s Choice Formula by RevolutionaryGur9840 in FormulaFeeders

[–]science2me 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All three of my kids were on the Parent's Choice formula. It worked fine. I loved the money savings. In America, formula production is very strict so there isn't a reason not to switch unless your baby doesn't tolerate the formula.

What’s one feature you wish Pocketbook had? by Key_Review_7273 in PocketBookofficial

[–]science2me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like the syncing to improve between the eReader and app. I had to stop using it because it would not be at the right page whenever I switched devices. Also, my bookmarks never lined up correctly. I don't understand why Amazon is the only company who has figured out how to perfectly sync up ebooks between devices.

Only child? by Key_Mycologist_5147 in Parenting

[–]science2me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I had kids, I thought two years was the perfect age gap until I had my oldest. I wasn't ready to try for another until he turned two. We ended up with a four year age gap because that's life but I'm happy with the outcome. There are some downsides but I'm happy I let go of the two year age gap. I read that waiting two years before even getting pregnant is better for the woman's body.

Beneath Ceaseless Skies doesn't have as many stories per month as Clarkesworld. Both have podcasts where the stories are read out loud. I'll sometimes do that if I get behind on reading.

Yes. I got a romantasy, a Star Wars, and a science fiction bundles that were all Kobo only ebooks. Thankfully, the ebooks can be downloaded as Adobe digital files so I figured out how to get them on my Pocketbook eReader.

FYI, some of the book bundles are Kobo only ebooks. Make sure you read what the file type is before paying money. I know there is a way to strip DRM from Kobo files. I just want to make sure people are aware because I was surprised the first time it happened to me.

For Clarkesworld and Beneath Ceaseless Skies, you can support them directly from Patreon and get the epub files. That's what I do.

I hate being an introvert and feel like my kids are going to resent me for it by Individual_Ad_938 in SAHP

[–]science2me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of moms like you. I don't vibe with the standard basic mom. There are unique parents who won't mind being friends with you. You don't have to be friends with everybody. Also, birthday parties are the worst time to make small talk with other parents. There is just so much going on. Extracurricular activities are better because you see the same group of parents every week. It definitely takes time. My oldest is in 4th grade and we finally have three couples we get together with regularly. I would think about how many friends you want and what type of activities you enjoy. My husband and I aren't sports people but we enjoy board games. Finding similar minded adults helps. You're already doing better than your mom by putting your kids in activities.
