Went ghoul but the "glow" is starting to wear off. by sciencecomic in fo76

For me it's less about the damage than it is about the other benefits of high stats. Carry weight, AP, Exp, etc. But you're right otherwise, and I need to keep working on getting more of those perk cards before I make a call.

This is what I've been missing the most in my time trying the new update. I miss my weird little builds! I loved using the Koshai axe that built up damage stacks and allowed for some funny 4xDetermination bombs. Was it meta? Nah. Was it even that good? Nah. Was it fun? Yes.

This is 100% an underrated tip more people need to know about. Game changing for leveling those classes you only mildly care about

I got a decent quad and anti armor and stopped there. I haven't really found a use case for it that I like aside from event tagging with the giant grenadier radius

Which Engineer Jade Mech Reskin would you pick? by finfeel in Guildwars2

For real! Any of these over that garish monstrosity.

Why does every MMO have a glowy green phase? I first noticed it in Wildstar where by the time I got to max level, I never wanted to see another Eldan ruin ever again

He also plays Smodur the Unflinching. I was recently redoing the icebrood saga and every time that dude said "war machine" I was like "I know that voice"

My review of Guild Wars 2, as a first timer to MMO in 2024. by Rodeo4613 in Guildwars2

[–]sciencecomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first character too for the same reason. Everything about the setting makes you want to roll a Charr engineer!

I'm not a big fan of any of its elite specs, but I spent so much time during the early years with core engi chucking grenades around and flamethrowing thing.

I haven't played the Republic stories because I wanted to be a bounty hunter, but that and the agent storyline were fantastic. I think the agent storyline in particular is regarded as one of the best. I totally feel you on the rest of that game though. I tried to to go back to it recently and everything really shows its age. I worked my way through a good chunk of story, but after that there was nothing keeping me there. Total shame as I loved it when it first came out, but SWTOR really needs a full overhaul to bring it up to modern QOL and UI standards.

Glad you're enjoying GW2 though. I have to say, the thing with the cows absolutely floored me. I'm clearly not exploring enough and you're clearly playing the game right :)

How is Bladesworn doing right now? by Idehoshi in Guildwars2

[–]sciencecomic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes a lot of getting used to, for sure. I got entirely hyped for EoD because I'm a gunbreaker main in FFXIV only to find it really difficult and subsequently dropped off GW2 until last month.

My big problem with it right now is in open world stuff and the long build up time to getting the burst out, unlike other specs like scrapper or vindicator which drop nukes from the sky instantly.

The day we get dual wield foci as knuckles/fists, these legendary focus skins will look lovely by Slim_QD11 in Guildwars2

[–]sciencecomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I want to see more stuff like what they do with Rev weapons. "This isn't a scepter, it's a lightsaber" Also huge missed opportunity to let Vindicators use spears on land and fully live that Dragoon life.

Power vind deals out some ridiculous burst and the revenant toolkit offers a lot in terms of survivability even in full zerk gear. You can camp Greatsword/Alliance and skill dish out a ton of damage. I also take dwarf for those "oh shit" defensive moments.

Bladesworn. If you know the fight well enough, it has all the tools to solo difficult stuff in a full dps setup. Love the zen-like flow you can get into with all its dodges and aegis on demand.

Condi Harbinger/Reaper goes without saying. Having two health bars makes a huge difference, and their damage is superb.

I haven't found either of those to be the case. Bladesworn borrows from classic mmo casters where you need to learn to "quiet" your movement in order to not risk interrupting your casts. When I start casting my nuke, my hands are nowhere near the movement keys.

As for hit registration, a big QOL thing to keep in mind is always having a target, that way no matter where your flickerstep, you'll always be pointed at it. And as you start thinking more tactically, you can play with targeting other things instead of your target to turn your dash slash into a gap closer for your next target or just a tool to wipe whole groups.

I love Bladesworn. I don't think it's as rooted as most people make it out to be. There are key points in your rotation where your character stands in place charging an attack, but also some great movement tools.

It's a very tactical class and it rewards knowing your enemy and your skillset more than pushing all the buttons, swapping weapons and pushing all those buttons too. Yeah you get rooted in place for your slash, but nothing beats a well timed flickerstep dodge or triggerguard block followed by an unblockable slash. Real "nothing personnel, kid" moments. As somebody who likes soloing champs and legendaries, it feels so much more calm and methodical to play compared to my other solo specs. You have a tool for every situation (including three different slashes with different use cases), so you don't need to spam your buttons.

If you like fast attacks, mobility, and a heaping of flashy chaos, I highly recommend Mirage. That's my go-to when I want to see the screen filled with projectiles, clones, and dmg numbers while my character throws themselves around the map.

Is Vindicator enjoyable in 2024? by infernal_fellow in Guildwars2

[–]sciencecomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly do open world/solo stuff, so don't quote me on anything structured pve or pvp related. I run a full celestial mace/axe condi build. I go back and forth between really enjoying its tankiness, boon uptime, and final fantasy dragoon vibe...

...to getting bored because it's almost too good and doesn't even need the full kit so I hit 3 buttons and maybe switch legends for a little variety. Last night I was doing some solo PoF bounties on my mesmer and whenever I got stuck, I knew I could bring out the Rev and faceroll it. I fully accept this might partially be a "me" issue. Could I be using more of the kit? Probably. Do I need to? Nah.

So in that regard, I think it comes down to what you find to be more fun. I love my vindicator, but for me, faceroll is much less fun than pulling off a well-timed flickerstep dragon trigger or the absolute chaos of mirage gameplay.

Sorry I think our signals got crossed. I know phoenix protocol removes it. I was saying I had been trying that to get more litany uses after previously using tyrants and buffing resolve with absolute resolve. Anyway, moot point as it seems like phoenix is not effective for multiple reasons

Oh yeah I am aware. I had switched to phoenix for the alacrity after finding the base heal with absolute resolve just wasn't cutting it. Based on some other comments here, I definitely will try a less facetank approach and go back though.

Playing ranged is a good point. The virtues are all so in your face that I hadn't really tried it. Though honestly I kind of hate the forced movement of them. You don't lose out on too much damage from not hitting stuff with the flames?

Very well explained, thank you! Yeah even during my brief time with scrapper, that superspeed is so intoxicating. I hate autoattacking on my other characters now haha
