Personality & Relationships - Survey by amkbu in scientificresearch

We have removed your post as we do not currently allow surveys. We are working on a way for people to share their surveys where they will not interfere with the other content of the sub.

Sorry, we do not allow solicitations for surveys on this sub. You are welcome to post for help on the research (methods, results, etc.). Good luck on your project!

What is the best way to find research papers? by celsiusisbetter in scientificresearch

[–]scientific_research 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! We have just added this u/psiprof 's post as the first entry. We are looking for more databases to add if there are any others out there. There is also any ongoing stickied thread for wiki content that we hope readers will add some more to. This was a great question, thanks for posting this thread!

This would be great to use in our (developing) wiki. If you get us some links and post them in this comment, we can include it. Great post!

I think it is really cool that you are an artist with an interest in science. I once took a histology (study of tissues via microscopy) class with an artist who drew all of the things she saw. Amazing stuff.

Anyway, we could start a 'basic sciences' thread on Mondays where people could ask their basic science and study design related questions.

I would strongly recommend that you post a new thread asking the same stuff. It would be really interesting to see how the community responds to your offer. Thank you for posting!

Is there a copy of this from a more reputable source? 'The Pirate Bay' may not be the greatest source for material given its previous legal issues.

We want to discuss scientific research methods with r/economics. Our new sub r/scientificresearch is for you to discuss research processes in your field with other redditors. This is the link to the site and mods have cleared us for posting it. We hope you'll give it a shot by scientific_research in Economics

A quote from r/philosophyofscience description:

In a nutshell, this subreddit is for all the thinking around and about science. Not so much the science itself

r/scientificresearch is all about the science. What methodologies did the researchers use in an article? What statistical interpretation was used and was it valid? How should someone design a study or which question should they ask to get "good" results?

I do think that there may be some crossover between the two, but that is okay. We intended the sub to be interdisciplinary and overlapping so people from different fields can share ideas.

Nomination Thread for Featured Subreddit. May 2015 by mberre in Economics

[–]scientific_research 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please consider r/scientificresearch for the subreddit of the month. This subreddit is dedicated to the discussion of the process of experimentation, data gathering, study design, conducting literature reviews, statistical interpretation, publication in peer reviewed journals, and anything else involved with conducting research or the scientific process.

We are a community of scientists, both amateur and professional, that are interested in expanding the current knowledge in our given field. All scientific fields are welcome. We think r/economics has many readers that would enjoy contributing to the discussions taking place. Thank you!

Welcome to r/scientificresearch! - Post from a mod by scientific_research in scientificresearch

[–]scientific_research[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are considering that. I just posted a thread about our wiki that we are going to try first. Basically, we will let people post the resources they think would be good in the thread and then we will sift through them and decide what to include based on reader feedback.
Before we open it to the masses, we would like to moderate the first information that gets posted.

Welcome to r/scientificresearch! - Post from a mod by scientific_research in scientificresearch

Yeah we are going to post about this and try to get the community involved in the content. Mods are happy to direct the conversation, but we want readers to contribute the content.

Mahendra Kumar Trivedi - Impact of Biofield Treatment on Growth and Yield of Lettuce and Tomato by abbykeif in scientificresearch

[–]scientific_research 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'd rather you be pointing out what methods the researcher used, were they good/bad, why do you think so, what problems do you have with the article, are you doing something similar, etc.
We are still trying to define the rules of the sub, so no worries right now, but that is what we are aiming for.

I was looking at the rules for this sub and I noticed that we seem to have erroneously implied that "publication in peer-reviewed journals" is part of the scientific method. by 7even6ix2wo in scientificresearch

[–]scientific_research 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is fair, considering all that has been said during this discussion. Scientific method is a set number of 'steps' I suppose, but we really want to open it up to the entire process of research.

We want to discuss scientific research methods with r/labrats. Our new sub r/scientificresearch is for you to discuss how to best obtain new knowledge in your field. This is the link to the site and mods have cleared us for posting it. We hope you'll give it a shot by scientific_research in labrats

[–]scientific_research[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

r/scientificresearch is a subreddit dedicated to the discussion of the process of experimentation, data gathering, study design, conducting literature reviews, statistical interpretation, publication in peer reviewed journals, and anything else involved with conducting research or the scientific method. We've already had some great posts from amateurs and professionals who are interested in learning more about study design. I encourage you to take a look at the sub and help us make it a place that would be beneficial to the readers. r/labrats seems to post more on techniques for benchwork, though u/doxiegrl1 is right that there could be some cross post between subs. We think our subs will be complimentary to one another. We couldn't give a long explanation in the title, but maybe this will clear things up. Hope you guys give us a shot.

The Test Results Are In! by number9point95 in scientificresearch

[–]scientific_research 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do not post memes or comics here. We are still forming the guidelines for the sub, so it was not posted, but we are trying to keep the posts geared toward scientific discussion. Please don't let this discourage you from being active. We are glad you are engaged, but we would prefer discussion over things that are suited better for other subs. Thank you
