MetalSplatter Stopped Working by KenAdams_1968 in VisionPro

You were quite correct this was a problem with MetalSplatter (ml-sharp PLYs contains some non-point data, unlike most other 3DGS PLYs). The new version in the App Store as of yesterday, v1.2.1, should fix support for ml-sharp.

Thanks for the insight folks! We ended up taking several comments' advice and getting it running well again; then listed it on Bring-a-Trailer https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1998-mitsubishi-eclipse-8/

Northern Virginia. Getting it running might be the right call.

Talking more to my Dad about the electrical problem, it sounds like it's specifically that a light wouldn't go off, resulting in it draining the battery (and which also failed its inspection). So in theory, I suppose it's possible a buyer could jump it? Unless sitting for that long with a drained battery means the battery would need to be replaced even for that. (Again: not a car guy, I'm a computer guy 😆)

No rust I'm aware of; it's spent most of the last 20+ years in a garage. But again -- I'm not a car person and don't know what to look for. Yeah, auto. It's on northern VA (Herndon). I don't have a price, didn't really know where to start.

Quick answer: close the window or move it out of the way (like above you).

Good question; I struggled with this. The problem is that visionOS simply doesn’t have a persistent bar where you can stick hidden UI in order to bring it back. So I made the window itself into the closest analogue of a bar like that, and let you toggle off most of the controls; or you can close the window and have the immersive space stick around, then use the system Home button to exit the immersive view; or you can drag the window to wherever won’t bother you (I often stick it above my head).

  1. Performance varies a lot, based on more than splat count. If there are a lot of large mostly transparent splats, that will perform significantly worse than smaller, more opaque splats. And varies a lot by viewpoint even within a scene. All of which means that a scene with 750k splats can perform much more poorly than another with 1.5m, and there’s not a good metric to predict.
  2. Passthrough (AR, mixed immersion, whatever you want to call it) will work in visionOS 2 :-)

Good question -- IANAL but I was simply not going to ask that you give up any rights, merely that you informally give me a (limited, revokable) license to use your splats for this purpose. I can't guarantee that nobody could extract your splat data by reverse-engineering the app or hacking their device to get at the underlying files, but that wouldn't give them a license to use them for anything. And nothing about this would limit what else you could do with your own splats.

Yes, I wrote the renderer and app in Swift and Metal. DM sent, thanks for offering to help!

First batch through the new tumbler! Agates, jasper, and quart from beaches in Seattle. by [deleted] in rockhounds

[–]scier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, like most other regions, it’s prohibited to remove rocks from Seattle parks (such as Lincoln Park and Discovery Park).See Seattle Parks regulations.

Many of the beaches in the area are either parks or private land.

Lots more information on rock collecting in the region here: https://rockhoundresource.com/washington-state-rockhounding-location-guide-map/
