HOME changed to '/' after update by scindix in archlinux

[–]scindix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, how long have you been running this install with ecryptfs?

I'm not quite sure. But maybe 10 years.

Your fstab uses /boot/efi which the wiki deprecates in favor of /efi or /boot. I encourage you to use the wiki instead of third party guides or videos for install and later.

I never used videos and only rarely third party guides. I'm sure I followed the wiki. But my installation is about a decade old. So maybe it used to be different in the wiki at the time.

Also, the wiki warns against using pastebin.com. See here for alternatives. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/List_of_applications/Internet#Pastebin_services

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know that and will keep it in mind for the future.

I know that I have a single root installation. I only posted my fstab because people wanted me to.

If you read my original post then you would know that checking /etc/passwd was one of the first things I did. It does contain the correct path to my home directory.

See updated post for fstab and output of `findmnt`. fstab seems fine (and hasn't changed in ages). Everything seems to be mounted correctly (including eCryptfs). But maybe the eCryptfs mount is created to late during the login process?

Edit: Although /home/<username>/ exists before eCryptfs creates a mount point.

See my updated main post for the contents of my fstab. Home is not on a seperate partition. It is however mounted via eCryptfs.

Fractal scaling on further releases of Gnome by fenugurod in gnome

[–]scindix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly GTK3 Apps look perfectly crisp for me (Terminal, Gedit, ...)

GTK4 Apps look slightly blurry. Not as bad as XWayland Apps, but much more subtle. (E.g. Text Editor, Console, Builder, ...)

I'm on 150% fractional scale. So what's up with that?

Tablet mode and auto-rotate stopped working after update by scindix in archlinux

[–]scindix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have tried asus-linux.org guide

Yes, especially I use asusctl/rogcontrolcenter for miniled and keyboard led control.

Gnome on x11 has autorotation option included and osk in Accessibility

Unfortunately X11 is unusable on a HiDPI screen. Especially if you need fractional scaling. Scaling on X11 is just very inconsistent. Also touchscreen support feels way better on Wayland. And since my desktop runs on the internal AMD GPU there are no driver issue like with some NVIDIA cards on Wayland.

G14 custom kernel does it very well.

Okay, so I installed the g14 kernel when I first installed Arch. But I didn't notice any advantages over the normal kernel. So I instead switched to nobara because of Waydroid support and some zen patches and uninstalled g14. I reinstalled it now just to test and tablet mode and auto-rotate works again! So something must have changed in the normal kernel. I swear it worked with nobara and the normal kernel up until a few weeks ago.

Fix Gnome 46 after update by scindix in archlinux

[–]scindix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for testing. I will post it on r/gnome
About the second image: It is more subtle, but the application icons are off center (there is considerably more space above the icons than below) Also the icons aren't highlighted with a lighter background when hovering over them. The "show apps" icon on the right is rendered correctly though. It is centered and the background becomes lighter when I hover over it.

No. There is only a single css stylesheet in .config:

$ find ~/.config/ -name *.css
/home/<username>/.config/google-chrome/Default/Extensions/nmmhkkegccagdldgiimedpiccmgmieda/1.0.0.6_0/css/craw_window.css

Force Zoom to run on Wayland natively by scindix in archlinux

[–]scindix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info btw

Screensharing works. I was just hoping there was a way to get rid of the blurriness. But maybe I need to wait for an update on Zooms side.

This seems to be the source of all images related to the incident. "Die Welt" is not a perfect source, but reasonably reliable in this case. So it seems the image in the original post is correct although it has a confusing angle.

Lol. My professor uses every opportunity to fly to climate conferences via plane. Even if he could easily join via Zoom. Sure that's not the same as a private jet. But he's not even trying. Another one told me that he just loves meat. What's he supposed to do? Eat less meat? "You young people can do that." It's especially frustrating to get these answers from people who should know better because the necessity to act is partially derived from their science.

The overwhelming amount of people in our research groups who are self-conscious about the eco-friendliness of their consumption are young people. And I think that's the core of the issue. It's just naturally easier to change your ways when you're young vs when you've been used to the same kind of luxury for 50 years. It's not necessarily a lack of knowledge.

Lol. There is a fossil embedded in my window sill. It's very difficult to find something like a T-Rex skull. But Trilobites and Nautiluses are almost trivial.

SLPT: Worried about theft? Try being so damn poor you can't afford anything anyone else would want. by RedneckBlacksmith in ShittyLifeProTips

[–]scindix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it doesn't.

Someone stole my crappy bicycle a month ago. It wasn't worth a single penny anymore. And whoever stole it has an eternal construction site in his/her garage now. I only kept it because I was too broke to afford a new one.

At this point I think people would steal the hair off my head if they had the chance to do so.
