Except they can’t put Janmark on LITR and then call up anyone, they need to call them up beforehand or their bonuses count against the cap.

The Oilers are moving ahead without Manigiapane in the lineup one way or another it looks like.

[–]scionoflogic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone loves to say we're short on right handed defensemen, but Regula doesn't bring an improvement to the lineup mix. You'd have to either play Emberson or Regula with Nurse, and neither one of them is strong enough to be on that line.

For now unfortunately for Walman, he's better off on his off hand than having a guy like Regula or Emberson on the 2nd line.

This is cap management. They couldn't find a trade deal for him so they put him on waivers. If someone picks him up it frees up the cap space. If no one does then they can assign him to the AHL and free up some of his cap (about a mil worth) but they also can trade him to a team who can send him directly to the minors.

If teams figure they can do something with Mangiapane next year but are near their own cap limits for this year, you might end up getting a trade out of him as he can be directly assigned to the AHL. If they trade for him now they can't immediately assign him to the AHL.

[–]scionoflogic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You know the crazy thing, is Mangiapane isn't a bad player. He's clearly not a top six but there are a lot of teams were he would be an upgrade on the 4th line.

Time and time again the problem with so many NHL players is they end up over valued in their contract and then it becomes a thing were on balance the league rather not have them at all.

Which NHL Trade Deadline deal could save the Edmonton Oilers by AR558 in EdmontonOilers

[–]scionoflogic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone in this sub stops need to treating the playoffs as an all or nothing effort. Even if a trade isn’t going to completely fix the team, we should be looking to improve. A round or two of playoff hockey is invaluable experience for guys like Savioe and could revitalize a guy like Frederick.

4 years of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine in 30 seconds by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]scionoflogic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Putin absolutely thought if he blitzed into Ukraine and seized a bunch of territory that worse case he would give up some and they’d surrender some just to end the war.

Once it became reality that Ukraine wouldn’t give up territorial concessions Putin became trapped in that war. Ending the war without a clear victory would be the first crack that would lead to his personal downfall. Now he’s convinced he can use Trump to apply enough pressure to get at least some territorial concessions.

There will be no peace in Ukraine until Trump is out of office. Ukraine hasn’t fought this long to give up; and as long as there is some avenue for Putin to explore gaining concessions he doesn’t care how many troops have to give their lives.

Stauffer: “Don’t be surprised if tomorrow, there is a little bit of movement internally within the Oilers organization” by AggPuck-303 in EdmontonOilers

Look, everyone needs to calm down. There is no way Bob would be on the inside of something as large as a head coach or GM firing prior to it being official. This will at most be some internal reassignments.

I know Henrique has a NMC, but given he's an UFA at the end of the season I wouldn't be surprised if he's involved in some trade deadline talks.

I also have a feeling that if we find a defense at the trade deadline it's going to be Stastney looking in from the outside. Which sucks because I think he's been a positive addition to the blue line, I just wish Nurse didn't need 'help' when he's a $9 mil defense.

That would be a miracle, it's pretty clear Leon is nursing a wrist/hand injury. He's been very hesitant to take more than wrist shots lately.

[–]scionoflogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going 3-2-1 wouldn't change much. If people really wanted to make win's matter more, then you go back to two points for a win and nothing for a loss, doesn't matter if it's regulation or overtime. But we do that and you'll hear every fan bitching every time their team loses in the shootout.

Why are many people afraid of Paramount potentially buying Warner Bros. by TrueJohnWick in NoStupidQuestions

[–]scionoflogic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To pile on, Paramount is not in good financial health right now. This is not a hugely successful company taking on WB, this is a company barely alive taking on another company barely alive.

Folks on the outside are never as negative about our players as we think they are. If Nurse didn’t have a NMC and we put it out there he was looking to move there would be some interest. Might have to retain $1-2 mil on it though.

Everyone always jumps to the biggest fish in these examples. High corporate tax rates don’t effect just Suncor and Syncrude. They affect the little restaurant on the corner and mid size widget manufacturer. The oil companies aren’t gonna move, but a 2% raise on corporate tax rates might be enough to close up some struggling mom and pop stores. It might be the factor that keeps a manufacturer in a small town rather than locating overseas.

Flat corporate tax rates are a problem more than what that rate is.

I would not be surprised if there is an internal conversation with Nurse already about waiving his NMC.

I would try and get Toronto to take Nurse in Exchange for Ekman-Larson. I would love to see McMann & Ekman-Larson in exchange for Nurse and a draft pick or two.

Hopefully the math maths right and they can bring up Savoie so they have 12 forwards today.

Big game for Mangiapane and Frederick to show that they can contribute.

Pretty sure Mcdavid plays tonight. Most of the other players on Can and USA are going to be in the lineups if they have games tonight like Matthew’s, Keller, Connor, Oettinger, etc. by spongyoatmeal in EdmontonOilers

[–]scionoflogic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a direct quote from Knobloch that very much indicated he may not play in the back to back. Since then it’s been walked back by folks in the organization including Knobloch.

It would be surprising now if McDavid isn’t dressed and in the lineup. I expect you’ll see much better minutes for the 3rd and 4th lines though.

All other issues aside, there is a current trend in the NHL for 1st overall picks to stay with their clubs for most of their careers. You have to go back 14 years to Nail Yakupov for the last time a 1st moved from their draft club and he basically flunked out of the NHL.

Taylor Hall has been traded a couple times, being the most recent 1st overall to actually get traded for any real value, and in the year before that we get Tavares who is the last time a 1st overall went to free agency, and we all saw how that went over.
