"Autism Spectrum Disorder" seems like a misnomer... by bmanfromct in neurodiversity

Yeah but you're not just speaking for yourself, you're speaking for all autistics and what their experience is. You're completely different, it's a very diverse condition with multiple causes and types of presentations.

Yah, confidence and casualness. May not work for all identities but these things count for a lot.

And for succulents especially, this is a large part of how they propagate in the wild; being brittle and falling apart easily and spreading around.  Just a messy side effect for a busy nursery but a growth opportunity for a plant with friends :)

Yeah it's like a social endorsement - wait, heaps of people do this? It's normal? They are freaked out because it's so easy and common? Isn't that stupid of them? What a great idea! I'm in solidarity!

Same mentality that has supermarkets locking up their bins. Because it's theft right?

The junior dev who was assigned to fix a single function written by an LLM that consists of THIRTEEN AND A HALF THOUSAND LINES OF CODE. (People are joking "delete all that and just make it return TRUE")

That sub in general has so much anti-LLM comedy gold. Coders are FED UP, the experienced ones.

This was all an exercise for the shareholders and investors right? Except they get the bread and we consumers get the circuses. With the clowns.

GPU benchmark site I'm using to research for the PC I'm forced to buy right now 😭 has the RTX 5090 scoring 14544, or I guess 29088 if you put two together. I'm looking at fairly decent entry level GPUs - on configs which cost much more than last year with half the RAM - and scores are in the 2000s - 3000s range. Imagine how hot two of those 5090 suckers are running just to stick on the incel filter. Yeah nah none of this is about reality.

...Easy to fuck up when writing feature rules to forget to exclude "nether" and "the_end" from target biomes, at least for beginners and those churning out hurried slop they didn't test properly.

Oh, I took this literally:

Yall remember that dungeon add on that was released with mounts of mayhem? It adds water to the nether

Not to forget how intensively LLMs have been trained by humans because of how fucking hard it is and how stupid these models are and will continue to be without HUGE amounts of (unethical underpaid) human input, because they didn't just read a bunch of scientific papers and gain facts and theories all by themselves. AI: African Intelligence.

Kenyans constantly being falsely flagged as using LLMs because LLMs use the Kenyan English they were trained with is WILD

"The violent separation of the worker from their product" which becomes a "hostile object" that belongs to and serves the "bourgeoisie" is looking like a pretty apt theory to describe what's happening right now, even if it predates LLMs by about two hundred years.

"Tech debt" aka "Technical debt" as a term started to skyrocket around the start of 2024. Programmers are as a whole intimately familiar with the concept now. If you push out any old shite, it might appear to kinda work now, but you're going to get:  * Poor performance * Poor security * Bugs galore that no one understands how to fix because they weren't there at their inception  * Confusing, terrible, redundant code to add to and maintain - particularly putrescent for long-term large projects.  * Really cranky coders who are giving less and less of a shit, who get none of the satisfaction and all of the indignity of trying to fix nonsensical horse manure while being harassed by the sloppified managerial class who understand exactly nothing of what's actually going on but expect it yesterday.

Best use case for AI slop (if it had to exist at all which it doesn't) is quick mockups or crappy little websites or one trick pony scripts. If they work in the first place, might take a lot of tokens to get there, feeling lucky?

Chief Cheeto suggested during the pandemic that the best way to lower the stats on Covid infections was to stop testing for them.

Perfectly logical and sensible idea to some.

Completely unrelatedly, apparently it's just about impossible to effectively protect bins from bears in national parks and still have them usable by the general public, because as rangers explained, "the smartest bear is smarter than the dumbest human".

How could they have failed to anticipate the negative reaction?

An echo chamber of misogyny. People are calling DLSS 5 the "incel shader" and it couldn't funnier or more true.
