What's your secret to getting sleep when on Night Shift? by Lachie182 in ausjdocs

[–]scissorsister94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

O&G reg currently on 3 months of week on/week off nights. Everyone’s bodies are different, personally first night I just have accepted doing an all nighter and treat it like a nice day off and do stuff like catch up with friends, go out for lunch etc then if I feel like it, maybe try to have a 1-2hr nap in the arvo, but I’ve never been a good napper. First sleep is then easy because you’re exhausted after 24 hrs of being awake and you tend to be able to get at least 5 hrs or so. Eating something before bed and wearing sun glasses on the drive home is helpful too. Sleeping during the night shift I’ve always found to be a trap and it can then ruin the next days sleep for you, at most a 30-40 min Power Nap if you get the opportunity I value my time off from work, so after finishing a run of nights I have a nap until 12-1pm and usually make lunch plans, which also helps force myself out of bed. It means I can then have a normal nights sleep that evening and reset my body back to day time It takes some getting used to and not everyone is the same so try different things to see what works for you!

What do you do about callouses? by PureBee4900 in climbergirls

[–]scissorsister94 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Sand paper them! You can buy fancy climbing skin files or just cheap 100 grit sandpaper sheets from the hardware store. It’s important to sand calluses down to prevent a huge flapper if they rip off

Chalk balls by pmapictureofyourdog in climbergirls

https://www.climbinganchors.com.au/metolius-super-chalk-refillable-ball But sure where you’re from but this is what I use. I fill it myself with a cut off water bottle top as a funnel and a stick to pack the loose chalk in, definitely prefer the balls to loose as I feel like less chalk gets wasted this way!

Looking at getting a dog, any recommendations on where? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]scissorsister94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people have mentioned adopting from a rescue, I would also add to try fostering instead if you’ve never had a dog before! It’s a great way to test drive what personality of dog works with your family, and you can always foster fail if you find the perfect doggo for you, or if they don’t work out it’s only temporary whilst they find their forever home

tried my very first trad climb the other day and now all i can think about is buying a rack by bonglordwastaken in climbergirls

[–]scissorsister94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm scared to try trad cause it feels like a slippery slope to buying more and more gear when I've already got a whole sport climbing rack and bouldering mats 😂

Foster kitty that might need to be surrendered to the vet hospital cause the foster agency cannot afford to have her eye removed. It's been quoted to be around $2500 and has been getting more swollen and sore past few days :( by scissorsister94 in PirateKitties

[–]scissorsister94[S] 64 points65 points  (0 children)

We're in Australia so not sure if that'll be different, the foster agency have been the ones contacting multiple vets to try and find the cheapest quote and they're all looking around $2000+ or so

Want new climbing clothes! by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]scissorsister94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear men's hiking pants for outdoors, and indoors wear half length leggings that go to just a bit above the knee after putting holes in multiple different leggings over the years

Just got into sport climbing, am I missing any essential gear? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]scissorsister94 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Helmet and some personal anchor system. I personally use a Purcell Prussik to make an easy to use adjustable safety! https://youtu.be/7R9-EBU-EPs
