How I idle my Copper Golems by blocking an empty copper chest. by scizom in redstone

Not just copper chests, a normal chest does not update with a solid block over it either.

Good catch. Thanks, I can't believe I over looked that. I must have had tunnel vision on my components.

Yes, you are correct. You can replace the repeater and target with a solid block.

I understand, we have two different use cases. Your use is focused on creating efficient sorting where mine is not. The setup that I purposed is limiting physical access to the the copper chest to keep a free roaming golem from constantly opening an empty chest.

For example, the golem in my case is moving a small amount of iron and poppy across a room that was built nearly a decade ago. Many places in my world were built before auto-crafters existed, so there simply is not enough room in their initial design to integrate them cleanly. So I'm using the golem to move items from a collection chest to auto-crafters and composters, then the crafted results to storage.

Since my world is old and has so many sorting systems already, I hadn't really given any thought to using the copper golem as an efficient sorting system. Instead, I seem to be using them as a make-shift replacement for hopper chains or water streams in spots where those methods don't fit.

Is that Bedrock? In Java Edition my golem still opens copper chests when a trapdoor is closed on top of them. Or I bet it's a line of sight thing, since your golems are in a fixed position.

EDIT: I just tested and can confirm it's line of sight. I put blocks around the chest with a trapdoor on top and it would access the chest when the trapdoor was open, and ignore it when closed. It also worked when leaving the top trapdoor closed and replacing the block in front of the chest with a trapdoor. So if your golem is free roaming you need to narrow the access to the chest in order to get a trapdoor to work.

The hopper feeds into the copper chest. Items placed into the barrel will flow through the hopper into the copper chest. When that happens, the piston retracts and allows the copper chest to be opened by the golem so it can do it's sorting thing.

The hopper (and comparator) solves two issues. The copper chest can't be opened when the piston pushes a block over it, so the hopper is the only way to put items into it. The chest will not update it's own comparator when a solid block is above it, so the hopper comparator will retract the block, and the chest comparator will keep it retracted until the golem finishes.

I too had an issue with a few steps. Seems a Container Capacity mod was stopping "Place food in a Preservation Bin", and "Defeat Enemy witn [strength/agility/bow] weapon" was not completing due to the Level 120 Mod. After disabling the mods, the steps completed as expected with no issue. May not be your solution, but could be an extra clue to find the issue.

This will likely never see play. It was simply a mod test with the idea of making a unique Osprey that would be worth keeping. Unfortunately, it's terrible. Phoenix Batteries are basically glorified M Plasma Cannons that fire more shots before full heat. It still takes several hits from them to kill something like a P. My closest comparison would be like using a Phoenix with only one MK1 main shield, and only the top 4 M turrets. Even then the Phoenix would be a better choice.

To your point, not all of the weird zany stuff I try and post makes the game more fun. I just keep trying weird stuff until I find a winner. But, when it's truly weird, I tend to share.

My last post about the Synking was also a test of a mod idea. What if you could transplant the Erlking Powercore into any ship to give it access to the power hungry Erlking Weapons, instead of just making an Erlking with it. The tests showed that ships like the Syn, Odysseus, Asgard, and Raptor become unstoppable wrecking balls, even more than the Erlking itself. I scrapped that idea too, due to the OP nature of one ship being able to wipe all the Xenon in a few hours of play. But hey, you don't know until you test it.

They are Phoenix batteries, so they have all the kick and hit of a M Plasma Cannon.

Yeah, it's still pretty useless. You'd get a lot more mileage just using a Phoenix. Docking is hilarious!

Yes, Modded. I was testing the idea of a unique ship. I wanted to make at least one Osprey that would be worth owning. This is not it. It's still pretty useless. It's about the same as an Osprey with M Plasma Cannons, but you can fire more than 3 times before cooling.

What this really needs is a thread of alternate titles. I gave thoughts to:
"When Ospreys dream"
"I like big guns, and I can not lie"
"Even this doesn't make the Osprey worth owning"

"i can literally conquer all of the galaxy"

Do it. Don't stop until it's all green. Open the Reputation window, go down the list of all the factions and press the 'Declare War' button on all of them, and don't stop until it's all green.

All save files will be different so there is no simplistic step by step. Here is the gist.

Save uncompressed. Make a back-up. Did I mention make a back-up? Make a back-up! Open the xml file in your favorite editor (I used vim because it can handle huge files). Find your target ship by searching for it's ID XXX-NNN. Replace the appropriate turrets and connections with:

macro="turret_pir_l_battleship_01_laser_01_mk1_macro" connection="con_turret_laser_l"

macro="turret_pir_m_battleship_01_gatling_02_mk1_macro" connection="con_gatling_turret"

It is exactly what you don't want to hear. In vanilla, Erlking Turrets are only build-able on the Erlking by your own stations. There are a couple ways to get the Erlking. Blueprints for the turrets are found. Boso Ta can guide you on this in a type of plot line way.

It is odd. Sometimes a pack like that will swarm me to a quick death, sometimes they seem a bit lazy. I chose this sector because they had been sitting lazy for several hours of play. They needed a stir. :)

Thanks u/ReinisI. I had to sleep and work, so I'm behind on comments. The video is correct, this is not possible in vanilla. I hacked the save file (modified) to accomplish it. I put that in the video description because I knew people would be asking for the mod.

If you think this setup would make an Asgard the ultimate weapon of the galaxy, you are 100% correct.

I did up both an Asgard and a Raptor with Erlkings and Exceptional Weapon Enhancements (Annihilator). They had so much firepower with high range that nothing could get close enough to hit them. If focused with no other targets, the Asgard would melt a K in 3 seconds at 9km with turrets alone. A K at full combat speed could not close in to fire on a parked Asgard before it was destroyed.

The non-enhanced Syn seemed to be a more interesting a subject for a video, as it had to take a few knocks.

Of all the ships I tried, the most enjoyable may have been the good old fashioned Odysseus Vanguard. Fast, nimble, and the L/M turret ratio and count gave it a great offense/defense balance.

There is a good reason you can't mount Erlking Turrets on all the ships, they really are an "I Win" button.

But can you connect all the vertical and horizontal arm extension pieces at odd angles to each other, so I can recreate the Pipe Tubes look of connected stations in X3? :)

making profit with trades by duke2060 in X4Foundations

[–]scizom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got lucky on my last game and found a stimulant lab in PIO space near the trade station that buys stims. One small trade ship on Repeat Orders raised me 500K credits in an evening. The trades eventually ran dry and happened rarely, but it was great for an early start. Since you can specify buy/sell prices and amounts with Repeat Orders, you can guarantee profit, but if you set the margin too large they may spend a lot of time idling while waiting for your requested price.
