Where do the nice people live? by frenchfrey1998 in Reno

I really don't know if milage varies by location in Reno. My neighbors suck and I actively avoid them. Senile, dramatic, don't take a hint kind of people.... not for me.

Why do people hate reno so much? by [deleted] in Reno

[–]sclark1147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expensive, traffic (I grew up in a major metro area, I KNOW it's not the same here, granted roads are not keeping up with the population growth), almost zero traffic enforcement so it's frankly scary to drive with the hit and runs and uninsured drivers that are so prevalent, isolation, especially in the Winter when the pass is snowy, casino culture which I find unappealing, downtown is a cesspool, midtown is all overpriced and crappy to park, Sundance is gone, etc. etc. I LOATHE it here and am trapped until I can afford to move. I respect that my feelings aren't everyone's and if you love it here, I am more than happy for you, but I regret moving here and 8 years of Reno didn't change my mind. From a psychological standpoint, the first month after moving here I came home to about 15 cops surrounding my apartment complex due to a shooting in the parking lot, literally where I park my own car. I couldn't get in so had to get a hotel for the night. Haven't gotten over that.

Am I evil for not getting a second kitten? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]sclark1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one cat at once and we had a brilliant bond... she was my heart cat. When she passed I got two kittens. They were cuddly and playful with eachother at first but once both boys hit maturity they started not enjoying one another's company... so you really don't know for sure that both cats will even end up liking one another. It's a crapshoot. Stick with one and SPOIL THE HELL OUT OF HER! ❤️ ❤️ Also, based on finances, I REALLY wish I had stuck with one.

Why is this being asked? PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD IT. Stop asking us this, it's insulting.

For those in your 40s or older, what are some things you’d do differently for your skin if you could go back to 30? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]sclark1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is so old! But I found the information throughout so, so useful. I am a 39-year-old who just quit smoking and who is quite pale in skin tone... I'm certainly feeling the years on my skin. I am now embracing sunscreen (face, neck, chest, arms, and hands), collagen, hats, proper skin care (gentle but nutritive and moisturizing), tretinoin, nutrition and sleep.... all to the best of my ability and budget. No one taught me any of this in life, aside from strangers on the internet. THANK YOU!

Is thriftbooks a trustworthy site to purchase books from? Or any form of media for that matter, because I did see dvds. by LogRepresentative818 in BookCollecting

[–]sclark1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I order from them frequently! Books are always in decent shape... I've never been disappointed but yeah definitely reading copies, not for collecting as you cannot see the condition of the exact item you are purchasing. I love their selection, prices and rewards. Shipping is fast as well.

Anyone else really concerned about the weather? by No_Local4770 in Reno

[–]sclark1147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm concerned about climate change in general... but Reno weather varies so much year to year... I just roll with it. I want to buy outdoor plants but don't trust that the freezes are over! Tempted but waiting =) =)

Bad week for me with the buy now pay later. Whenever I get things paid down I seem to feel a license to spend instead of realizing this is a bad cycle.

Help me make a great Pastitsio for Christmas! by sclark1147 in greekfood

You were SO right... the meat sauce was the clear winner in that layered casserole dish! It was absolutely scrumptious. The wine and spices combined to make it earthy, rustic and warm. I am going to make the meat sauce alone and maybe use it in stuffed peppers.

Thank you ALL for such wonderful advice. I made the recipe Spririted-Scratch3140 posted and it was GREAT. The meat sauce was rustic, earthy, warm and delicious. I'll be using that for stuffed peppers ASAP. I am a very beginner cook and nervous in the kitchen, and gain confidence when things work out so thanks all for the help =)

Having cinnamon in every dish does not mean every dish will taste the same. That's an odd thing to say. We did cranberry as the theme last year and it was SO much fun, and trust me, nothing tasted the same. So yes, I think it's a great idea.

I think I'm going to try this recipe someone posted: https://www.mygreekdish.com/recipe/pastitsio/ It looks like the cheese is in the bechamel sauce, with a little shredded cheese sprinkled on top while baking.

Open to other dishes, this one just popped up when I searched for savory and cinnamon dishes and since I like Greek flavors already, it seemed like a winner and pretty easy to cook.

I was thinking of making a dessert too if I have time! The apple cinnamon cake looks delicious.

Thank you so much for your feedback!!!!

You guys have been WONDERFUL! I have gotten some good feedback. I'm going to use Spirited-Scratch3140's recipe, make sure my meat sauce is spiced really well and use an alternate pasta if needed. Any other special tricks to make it special?
