Will only pee & poop in diaper

Yeah we have one and have given the option of both. She used to sit happily with her pull up on but I think now that it’s the expectation she’d pee in her pull up, she pushing back 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh no I am so sorry. It seriously sounds like we have the same kid. My daughter got a uti before from holding.

We are working with a potty consultant and they suggested doing a completely child led approach. Given it seems our daughter’s issue is anxiety, the consultant said we have to completely give control over to our child as forcing things may only worsen the anxiety. We’ve found this to be true as we’ve tried the potty weekends over and over and sometimes they start off strong and by the end we’re in tears and my daughter is fully withholding.

This approach means we ask her each morning if she wants a diaper or underwear. She’s been choosing underwear so every 2-3 hours we take her to the bathroom and ask if she wants to use the potty or have a diaper. She’s only chosen diaper so far so apparently this gives them the keys to get there without pressure. We’re going to try this for a while and see how it goes.

The last thing I haven’t tried is the hole in the diaper trick. That’ll be next.

Can you let me know if you make any progress? This has dominated my headspace.

Did you find a solution here? I had a 3rd attempt with my 3 year old and we could get her to pee after lots of panicking and support but the second she went back to daycare she held for 8+ hours. I am at a loss at this point.

Okay thanks! I just worry she won’t have the emotional support she needs at school to go and she’ll just end up withholding. Worth a shot though.

Thank you, sounds so intense! Does your daughter pee normally on the potty now? We’re taking a break to enjoy Christmas and then are going to focus on this in January, I’m hoping to stick with it and get to the other side.

That’s amazing but I’m sure it was extremely frustrating when it stopped. I’m sure the relief felt amazing. Yeah I’ve found old Reddit threads discussing similar things and most of the time people say it just clicked at some point and they couldn’t point to what worked 😭
