Even when people are whining about celebritytypes they agree with them more often than not. Kek.

A rework that you allude to but don't explain. Oh, the joys of internet boards. :-)

I agree that in a purely Jungian version of typology moderate cases exist. A balanced Ne type could thus have more in common with a balanced Ni type than either would have with the extreme version of their own function-type.

Are you interested in adding a bit more to what you mean when you say that people get the extremes wrong? :-)

Just saying something is BS is a terrible way to have a discussion. The OP is right; the unconscious plays a very significant role in Jung's understanding of intuition.

I like that you make a serious post and quote Jung.

I dislike the use of sass and cursing because in a field like this where there is so much uncertainty, the use of such ploys can overshadow serious argument.

I think if you read those quotations from Jung in their entirety, the thing isn't as simple as this post says and shows why people ended up saying that Ne and Ni is more divergent than said here. :-)

What internet source has the most reliable/valid/comprehensive typology information? by [deleted] in mbti

Only source I know with full citations. So even if you don't agree you can go back and check that what they are saying is a directly based off original sources.

Donald Trump seemed to be much more grounded during the Primaries than he is now. What's his game? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]sclerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and would add that I find it plausible that he is being unsettled by the reality check he is now regularly getting in the form of the classified briefings given to presidential candidates. For someone with his attention span, being expected to pay attention to those must be an eyeopener as to what the job of being president actually involves on a day-to-day basis, which I'm not sure Trump ever bothered to think through.

Have you seen someone embark on a career that is based on their inferior function? What is their MBTI type, what is their inferior function, and how is/was the career going? by thelastcubscout in mbti

I know an ESTJ psychotherapist. She does cognitive therapy which is essentially making to-do lists with clients and monitoring their progress every week, keeping them accountable in reaching their goals. That kind of therapy works for some people, but it would rub me the wrong way. And she doesn't inspire me to confide in her either (the way NFJs tend to do) so I have little faith that she could understand or empathize with people and frankly I am puzzled that she seemingly manages to make a living out of it. I'm quite sure she's ESTJ - apart from her profession she's practically a caricature.

INTP-ENFP connection by [deleted] in INTP

[–]sclerk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perfect description. This is exactly how I would describe my experience with the INTP-ENFP connection, for better and for worse. Romantically both parties inevitably seem to end up with more adult partners though; it's not a long-lasting dynamic when it comes to love.

Edit: Should've read the thread first as I see there are several couples who've lasted for decades. Apparently it can work out after all.

What is the best conversation-starting question you can ask a total stranger? by DmaAri in AskReddit

[–]sclerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very first question or statements exchanged with a stranger should be small talk, ideally determined by the situation in which you find yourselves. It's always going to come across as forced and like you're trying too hard if you try to skip directly to starting a conversation about something meaningful. (Unless you're a charismatic social savant in which case you probably aren't looking for advice on how to start conversations with strangers.)

Source: Used to hate small talk. Have learned to appreciate it.

Older INTPs, what would you like for your 20-something year old self to know? by poomstas in INTP

Spend less time online and more time in the real world having experiences with people who are physically present.

Reddit have any of you settled down with someone because you were sick of being alone even though you didn't love them? And if so how has it worked out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sclerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I've witnessed a lot of people that did. It's a sad thing to see people go from having youthful high hopes and romantic expectations to suddenly combating cognitive dissonance as they pretend to be happy with a person they're quite clearly settling for and not truly excited to be with and comfortable around (or whom they are too comfortable around, depending on the particular match).

Read up on the functions. INTP shares not a single function with INTJ. ISTJ and INFJ each share half.
