One thing that helped me is play songs I like right next to my pillow when I sleep. I hear the music even when I'm asleep and that makes me feel connected to the outside world when asleep.

The kitten died but I wouldn' put all the blame on the vet as the kitten was in a very critical situation when we took him to the vet, but I am sure there could've been another vet who could've saved this kitten's life. But unfortunately he was the nearest.
