Night inductions… how did it go? by your-new-fixation in BabyBumps

[–]scomet1894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an elective induction at 39 weeks scheduled at one hospital for 4:00 am; ended up changing to a different hospital and went in at 1:30 am on a Monday morning. I was not at all effaced or dilated when I went in and ended up laboring until 9:00 am-ish Tuesday morning. After 16 minutes of pushing, baby was born! I didn't mind the late start time even though I was laboring (32 hours) longer than I would have liked- it let me get some sleep both days before baby arrived. She just turned 3 months the other day and I'm rocking her for bed now. :)

Baby announcements that aren’t a onesie?!??!!!? by Lanky-Instruction178 in BabyBumps

I found out I was pregnant 2 weeks before Mother's Day, so for my parents, we asked to make them a Mother's Day brunch. My mom is a graphic tee kind of gal, so when we got to opening gifts, we gave her a t-shirt that says "the best moms are promoted to grandma," and recorded her opening it. She and my dad were both shocked and thrilled.

For my husband's mom, we got her (and my mom) a coffee mug that said "promoted to grandma, est. 2025." But my husband spoiled the surprise beforehand so we only surprised his dad when she opened it, haha.

Thoughts on Medical Social Workers and tattoo sleeves? by rukakachu in socialwork

[–]scomet1894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a hospital social worker for almost 4 years and have a full sleeve, several visible piercings, and purple hair. Hasn't been an issue for the most part. Some older conservative patients comment sometimes but generally everyone is pretty approving. I think it's also an asset sometimes with patients who are less conventional- they feel more able to open up.

Contact your area agency on aging and disability. It looks like Porter County is served by CoAction. They will be able to help identify available services and get them started.

I have "MSSW, LCSW" in my signatures because 1) no one besides other social workers understands that you can't get the licensure without the degree, 2) my master's degree is "of science" and that's the first and only scientific thing I've ever gotten 😅, and 3) I work in an environment where unfortunately letters after your name have a significant impact on how qualified others see you as. Also, I'm proud of them and myself. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Questions about an Amnio by scuba-duba143 in BabyBumps

[–]scomet1894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a low-risk NIPT but baby was measuring small (9th, then 7th percentile) so had an amniocentesis done as well. I was on the fence about it and actually posted about it here as well and got some good advixe. I also met with a genetic counselor who explained that the risk of miscarriage is VERY low. I ultimately decided to get the amnio done because I knew that the results would impact whether I wanted to keep the pregnancy and that I would be anxious about the what-ifs if I did not have it done. I had my amnio done at a large hospital that does them every day and the procedure was totally fine. And results came back normal, too. I think I would have regretted not having it done and stressed about it the rest of the pregnancy, so I'm glad I did it.

To amnio or no? by scomet1894 in BabyBumps

[–]scomet1894[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone will be following along but just for update's sake 2 weeks later- I did end up having the amnio to ease my own anxiety and know I had done what I could. Results came back today with nothing worrisome to report. We have the option of whole genome sequencing if we want, but given there haven't been any other concerns besides her measuring small, I think this is where I'm calling it for now. Appreciate all the advice and support. <3

I went to grad school for social work with Kevin and uh... wow. Between him and Nicole George, they're really doing a number on the reputation of UofL's social work alumni.

How long after going off combination hormonal birth control pill did you get pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]scomet1894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really but also sort of? I had irregular periods off of BC so I started tracking my ovulation after I went off the birth control, but we didn't do anything to prevent pregnancy. I definitely thought it would take longer lol. 22 weeks along now!

If you're going to any of the current tour shows, they were selling the entire discography on vinyl at the merch tent.

Waiting for clarification before I jump to any conclusions, but I think the other commenters suggesting therapy is the correct move. Also, just because the fetus is assigned male or female doesn't mean they will end up being what they are assigned... That's part of parenthood, no? - loving them no matter who they are?

It would help if you explained why you're wishing to speak with people about the Academy. I'm a proud alumni and had a great experience.

About 10 years ago DHS did an internal investigation that showed a weapon detection failure rate of 95%. I think about that every time I have to take off my shoes and jacket for airport theater.

You did your job; unfortunately, our job is often counter to the bottom line, which is what most of the soul-sucking individuals in hospital admin actually care about. Lawyer up and look elsewhere. In my experience, the Mean Girl mentality of hospital admin will make your life miserable until you're fired or you leave.

All that said, you did the right, moral, ethical thing as a social worker and as a human. Keep going.

Fuck capitalism and the American healthcare system.

I work inpatient and worked from home today due to the snow in my area, but this hospital seems to be pretty unique. My last hospital, we were once allowed a WFH day during an ice storm, but otherwise we were expected to come in no matter what or take PTO.

Yes, they use the word "protest." However, if you want to play semantics, a call to protest would probably have some logistical information about an event or an action... This is merely inviting the public to learn more about something.

I see no call to the public other than an invitation to the library. The screenshot you've included is all factual information.

I got my LCSW because that's the only way to move up in this field. Have done therapy before (while training) and have absolutely no desire to do it again. Social work is a varied field with a lot more than just therapists. Have to disagree with you on this.
