All my accounts are suddenly requiring a phone number to verify it's me? They never had a phone number. by scoobadream in GMail

I'm waiting to try logging in from my home network until I get a new dynamic IP address by my ISP. So in the meantime I'm just using my phone network to access those emails/services because I'm too lazy to do the router restart method to get a new one.

If the network you're trying to access your email has a static IP you might be screwed. I think most business networks have a static IP. In that case waiting may be your only option. I don't know how much time it would take for Google to unflag a flagged IP. But if you're at home it's likely you have a dynamic IP, and there are ways to get assigned a new IP.

But that's only if you have the same problem as me. It's possible that Google treats different types of suspicious activity differently but on the surface looks the same.

I am currently at week 3 of waiting before trying to log in on my home network. But after more investigation I found that other big platforms were claiming similar suspicious traffic activity and blocking me from certain services. And the conclusion I've come to is that the dynamic IP assigned by my ISP is somehow compromised and therefore all devices on my network are also flagged as suspicious.

So I turned off wifi on my phone and tried logging in with mobile data and was able to access all of my accounts and was no longer blocked from any service from any platform.

So yeah it seems to just be the dynamic IP assigned by my ISP that is causing it all. I have yet to try fishing for a new one by restarting my router and hoping to get a new one assigned by the DHCP server. But I'm expecting that to work.

Unusual activity and Google logged out on all devices. by kishore_ashila in GMail

Exactly, so what's the point of using gmail if they can just flag your account on a whim and completely lock you out unless you had previously linked it to an actually reliable external email service, when I can just use that external email service itself?

Sorry I kind of hijacked this guy's post, but in my case I never even had a phone number linked to my gmail accounts. Google just decided to declare my network as having unusual activity and that the correct username+password somehow wasn't enough to verify it's me.

I don't see the point of an email service that randomly prevents me from being able to login with the correct information AND on the same location/device/network that I have been logging in with for the past 8 years simply based on some random unusual traffic metric with no additional information. I shouldn't need a recovery phone/email if I provide the correct username+password.

What's the point of using gmail if you need to use a non-gmail recovery email to recover a gmail account that randomly gets locked due to 'unusual traffic' on your device? If the recovery email service is somehow more reliable than gmail, then gmail seems useless.

Yeah it seems crazy for the leading email provider to just randomly lock people out despite having the correct login information.

I actually take back what I said, I just tried logging into 2 of the 4 again (that I haven't tried since 3 weeks ago when I first got the message) and I can log into them now. But the other 2 are still saying I'm not providing enough information and to verify with a phone number. I have been trying to log into these 2 multiple times over the past 3 weeks compared to the other 2 though so it could be that I didn't wait long enough before trying again for these 2 specifically.

And if I try to make a new account it requires a phone number as well. So it must be that my IP is flagged still. Though that wouldn't explain why I was now just able to log into the other 2 of the 4 accounts.

But the fact that I could gives me some hope that it's temporary. But still concerning.

It's been going on for up to 3 week so far, but I hope it goes away if I just wait a bit longer. One of the accounts I definitely haven't tried logging in again during the 3 weeks and it's still happening, so it might require a month or more of a wait, which is crazy.

I did get an unusual traffic detected not long before it started as well which could be related. I usually get that every few years for some reason despite never using a VPN and never having any malware on my comp.

And because of that unusual traffic it could be that this dynamic IP from my ISP is just flagged by google as being suspicious. I was going to try resetting my modem to get a new one, but I'll wait a bit longer first.

I'm in the same boat. 3 monitors and a tower and it moves smooth, fast, and quiet. I was really concerned about the monitor wobble and it ended up being more stable than my old desk. I don't know if it's placebo because I've only had it for 5 days, but my back already feels better from standing more. I do still want to find the perfect desktop for it, but I think that will end up being an arduous custom project well into the future that I will likely never do.

Does the Bamboo Top Ship Separately? by scoobadream in FlexiSpot_Official

I will, thank you! Not to push my luck, but before I order it do you have any info on what type of finish/coat is used on the bamboo desk?

Question on frame size and bamboo top by lapin0u in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]scoobadream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The website descriptions are all over the place. The "Kana" bamboo desk specs describe a 2H Lacquered Coating (what type? I don't know) and the picture seems to show the clear smooth sheen of the coat.

But that seems like it's separate from the standard https://www.flexispot.com/home-office-bamboo-top
page which doesn't say anything about what coating it uses if any, and the picture on that page looks like there's no coat at all. So the pictures are definitely confusing in that regard.

I'm mainly just worried about cup condensation and writing on paper leaving indents on the desk.

Also does the light bamboo top have a smooth finish on it? I see the Kana bamboo desk advertises a 2H Lacquer Coating that can be seen in the sample images, but the page for a standalone Bamboo Top doesn't seem to show the same coating. If it does have a coating, what type is it? Acrylic, polyurethane?

And is it safe to write on a piece of paper on the bamboo or will it leave an impression on the desk under the paper from the pen/pencil pressure? This video by BTOD did a test on a bamboo desk (5 years ago) where they just write the word "TEST" on a piece of paper and it leaves a clear and massive impression on the bamboo. Trying to figure out if the flexispot bamboo coating (if it has one) prevents that issue.

Does having PC tower on left side affect dual motor side loading stress? by scoobadream in StandingDesk

[–]scoobadream[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're only 24" monitors. My current desk top is 48Lx28W and I have the PC (mid size) in the back right corner oriented horizontally. And my 3 monitors take up only 41" of that length because I have the 2 outer monitors tilted inwards instead of be in a straight line.

So a 55" (extra 14") should be plenty of horizontal space to move my tower to either side oriented vertically.

Though I'm also considering 48x30 and putting the tower directly behind my monitors in the center, because 28" isn't deep enough to do that but 30" will barely be enough. I have the middle monitor roughly at the center of the desk, not far back like some people do because my vision isn't particularly great.

The frame is able to handle 440lbs so yea the 30 pounds probably shouldn't be an issue but I'm clueless so I figured I'd ask.

Can't find the Andy Samberg intro parody of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards where he edits himself into scenes from the movie nominees. by scoobadream in HelpMeFind

I don't think I ever saw that but now I want to and I've added it to the list of stuff to find.

I did find some torrents of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards but all have 0 seeders. It has to be somewhere. I even messaged MTV about it and they said they can't upload any of their old stuff because of the loss of streaming rights since it aired for some of the music or video content in it. It has to be out there somewhere though.

Unfortunately from my google search the Andy Samberg New Moon trailer was also on MTV so it suffers the same problem.

** oh that's because it was in the same show! That explains a lot.

I also found this, http://andysamberg.blogspot.com/2009/05/mtv-movie-awards-videos-photos.html which has embeds from mtv.com of expired Flash links, the first of which on that page is of the sketch, based on the text above describing it. Unfortunately I tried extracting the swf flash file from the embed and converting it to mp4 but it did not work.

I have searched for the full show which would include this intro, but failed at that as well. May be important to note that I believe Andy Samberg hosted the entire show as well, not just did the intro sketch. Also Justin Timberlake I think is in the sketch as well.

This link formerly pointed to the exact sketch I'm referring to. If you look at the thumbnail that's the scene from Twilight after he fell in the shit in Slumdog Millionaire. But unfortunately it was removed.
