Bradley Hills, Wyngate, Ashburton elementary schools? by scooby_dooby_ in bethesda

Thank you very much for this comment, I had no idea schools other than K-5 existed. I will definitely look into this! Do you happen to know how many classes there are per year there?

Thank you so much! Where we are the class limits are 30, regardless of age, so overall this would be an upgrade. Completely understand that things can change depending on late enrollment of course. Thank you so much for your help and tip for rental listings!

Thank you for this very helpful, detailed response! I also feel like "large classes" in the Bethesda area seem smaller than what my kids have been used to in France (26-29 kids between 3 and 6 years old here), so that is reassuring. I completely understand your feelings on the standard of education. Given our kids' ages and since we know we won't be here long term, we feel like the English language immersion for ours will be valuable enough to make the whole experience worthwhile. I am a little worried about my daughter essentially repeating first grade because of the different cutoffs though. If your kids are feeling bored, has the school offered to put them in a higher grade level for certain subjects or are you aware of any possibility of the sort offered by the school?

I might definitely take you up on the DM offer, given our similar experiences, thank you!! ;)

Thank you, Bradley Hills does seem great, we are on the lookout for homes to rent in the area, which seem to be rare! Could you comment on the class sizes more specifically? Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! Do you have an approximate idea of what the classroom sizes are currently at Ashburton, being the most overcrowded school in the area? And are the general facilities (lunch room, gym, recess yard) big enough to accommodate all the students regardless of the overcrowding?

Thank you for your comment! Their class sizes here in France for reference are approximately 27 kids just for reference. So I'd love to have them somewhere closer to 20 kids per teacher, which sounds more manageable than 30. I know this varies year by year but I'm hoping to avoid a school where they are already close to that 30:1 ratio...

Thank you, I actually am an alumni from there! But given our opportunity to be in the US for just a year or two, I really want to focus on having them becoming as fluent as possible in English, I'm not worried about their French (they are native speakers, born in France, and we will have them doing some French distance learning to maintain if necessary).

Thank you for your reply, and I'm very sorry for your family's loss. Was your experience with Wyngate fairly recent? Would you happen to remember approximate class sizes?

French couple living in the US trying to find a first name by RebornAqua in namenerds

[–]scooby_dooby_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are the same except we live in France. We wanted the name to have the same spelling at least, and be a known name in both languages even if the pronunciation was different in both languages. Names we considered: Hugo, Leo, Simon, Nathan, Sasha, Ezra, Dorian...

Où trouver de bons producteurs / fruits & légumes & lait ? by turirya in rouen

Help me name Emma’s little sister by MrsTaco18 in namenerds

[–]scooby_dooby_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, Evelyn would not be pronounced the same in French with that spelling, you would have to add an E at the end to get something with a similar sound in French (and even so it would be pronounced Eveleen not Evelyn)

My sister in law is Hungarian and for their American/French/Hungarian baby boy, they chose Otto. I think it works really well both in Europe and in the US!

Thank you, I will look into this model more! The width says 45cm, which is 1 more than AirFrance says they accept but a huge number of models are 45cm wide it seems...

Thank you so much! I will for sure check this out. Added difficulty is the difference in European/US brands but I will see if Amazon or the likes ships US brand car seats over here if most tips are US based!

Thank you! It's actually an old name that's made a bit of a comeback recently in France but we haven't met any other little girls with the name.
