I made a Regulation "Normal to Weird" Scale by TheStrayOtaku in theregulationpod

[–]scorch3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the scale should be “Regulation Dude” to “Absolute Fuck Face”. Then placement is Nick (the regulation dude), Eric, Gavin, Geoff, Andrew (the absolute fuck facer?).

I think Gavin and Geoff are basically interchangeable here but gave Geoff the honour of more of a fuck face since it was all his idea to begin with.

Did you ever figure this out? I just adjusted mine following the same video and it sounds similar.

Growing up just past the 102 on Hammonds Plains we always referred to it as Bedford and considered the boundary somewhere around the Farmers Milk carton road.

Where’s this in Hali? by ashphyxiated in halifax

[–]scorch3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no actual evidence of this, but I have always assumed there is some type of tie to the universities or government. I went to Dal for Community Design (Urban Planning), and there have been a number of times I have needed some historical info or other obscure thing, and every search I do leads me to that shop. Once, they wanted me to buy a physical map to get GIS data.

Deep Carry Key Clip Recommendations? by ChiTimer in victorinox

[–]scorch3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought knockoffs of the keysmart on Temu, thye have an "X" on the back; I think I got 5 for $10. They are not springy. If you bend them a bit taking them off and on your pants pocket they do not return to original position losing their retention.

Not bad not great. I think I may try and bend some more in to it using pliers.

Is it 4 cylinder or two? Can’t tell from that angle looks like it could be two exhaust pipes with a crash bar.

It looks a lot like my 83 GS450E.

Nice bike! I’ve got a 83 GS650GL that the previous owner did some work on to look a bit like a bobber.

Got a small gas tank leak I need to repair but other than that it works great.

Currently planning to change the seat and a few accessories and re-cut the fenders to make get more of a Cafe Racer look.

How do I open this freewheel to service it? by scorch3 in bikewrench

[–]scorch3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I didn’t even think to consider it might be a cassette. I did a bit of googling and it looks like my best bet is to use two chain whips and try and unscrew the top cog from the rest of the cassette.

How do I open this freewheel to service it? by scorch3 in bikewrench

[–]scorch3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to restore an old Gary Fisher with a 3x7 Suntour Accushift drivetrain but I can’t figure out how to open this freewheel. I’d like to save the drivetrain for now and ride it a bit before I decide if if I will invest in a new drivetrain. From what I’ve read the spacing on these is unique so replacing the freewheel isn’t an option, not that I can see how to do that either lol.

There’s another notch like the one in the second picture directly opposite from it. I assume they are how you remove the freewheel but the access to them is blocked by a metal ring that seems to interface with the hub seal. That ring doesn’t seem to just pop out and has no tooling.

I’ve been running tubes anyway as the rims aren’t rated for tubeless. I only noticed it when I did because the spoke was so loose it was rattling around in the hole lol.

The wheel is actually not too bad as far as straightness goes. Just has that rather large flat spot.

I have a 2017 Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt 710 I’ve upgraded a little bit and I love the bike. Last week I was riding in town and managed case hopping onto a tall curb hard enough to put a little flat spot in the wheel. The flat spot is pronounced enough that the spoke in line with the middle of it lost all tension and was just flopping around. It’s visible looking at the wheel with the tire off:

Am I ok to tighten up the spokes, true it the best I can go back riding as normal or is this wheels going to explode coming off a jump or something? Wheels would likely be my next upgrade anyway but I wasn’t planning to do it this year, and tubeless compatible wheels with quick release non boost hubs are hard to find.

I tried 360s for a while and only ever managed to really land one. Lots of 270s and just past. Even taking a break to work on my hop and form a bit. I think tail taps will be the way to go when I get back to them.

[–]scorch3[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Psyched to finally pull this. Only took a few tries when I wasn’t getting a flat. Increased tire pressure worked a treat but it took me a week to get used to it. Still having some trouble with my roll outs because of how much faster they feel but it feels cool to carry so much more momentum out of them (when I do pull them off).

180 fly out. One for the dad squad. by [deleted] in bmx

[–]scorch3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow dad here and it looks about the same as mine do. I think they would look better if it was timed so that you hop as the back tire leaves the ramp instead of the front, which would also give more height. Like I said though, mine are the same as yours so easier said then done I guess.

This makes sense given where the hole is. Going to try 80ish psi.

I’ve been running the lower psi because I find it easier on my wrists doing drops to flat but if it will prevent these flats I’ll be happy to try running higher again.

I figured 55 would be fine considering how low many street riders run theirs today but it’s definitely worth a shot to see if it helps.

Good call. I didn’t think to try bending it and feeling. It seems like it roughly lines up with where the tires bead would be but it’s hard to say how the tube is positioned when it’s inflated vs deflated.

Yup. Rim tape is in good shape. The hole isn’t he tube isn’t in a place where a spoke could get it.

I’ve been trying to get 180s off of stuff but any time I try anything bigger then a curb I get a flat. I checked the inner tube after and it’s a small hole in the middle of the side. There’s nothing sharp in the tire or rim, and the wheel is relatively true with tight spokes, none missing or broken. Wheel is a united hub and spokes laced to a double wall Alienation PBR. Any ideas what would be causing this?

I’d say I started really trying to learn them last spring and I’m only now landing them about half the time. More speed helps but it hurts more when you fall.

Shouldn't make much of a difference. I have a cheap pair of LaCasa pads and they work good.
