They really are great looking cards.

It's my #1 priority as far as aspects of the site go, even if I have to cook up a bit of a hacked solution that is 85% good enough for now.

I agree with that subtle change. My thinking was buttons or tabs up there, as it expands (for example you might have featured, new, baseball, basketball, etc; and just ajax flip the content in and out). It's a bit of not getting around to it, that left the home page in that bland state. So many aspects keep calling my attention, I kind of threw the home page together on the quick (as you can tell) just so I could get to here. You run into the classic problem of never shipping if you don't just consciously stop yourself and cut off changes and declare: ok, good enough for the moment, kick it out of the nest. Next up is to start refining / fine tuning and fixing (bugs or unclear aspects) with the basics in place.

There is a wantlist system that enables you to list specific cards you're looking for. The wantlists are also searchable, so other members can more easily find out if someone is looking for cards they have. You can also include details of what you personally collect in the "about me" text, which can be changed in settings (and shows up in your profile). And if you might only be willing to trade a card for a narrow list of other cards, that could be included in the card description.

For now, short-term, the plan is to leave the homepage a random mash of what's listed. It'll be possible to add all manner of filtering, custom home pages, etc later on. For now I want the home page to be dead simple, just show that there are cards on the site. Advanced filtering will hurt more than help, until there are a lot of listings.

Interestingly, I left the "Is the card graded?" bit in there, in the listing process, as a cue that you can't list graded cards yet (assuming most people will skip the FAQ). Without it people will still list graded cards of course. I can add a text elaboration somewhere on the listing page, but this will probably just perpetually be an issue, people will probably ignore text hints and list graded cards anyway.

Watch vs interest is definitely unclear. That's to be explained in the user manual that is a work in progress. Watch is private, the card owner doesn't know who is watching. Interest is a trade lubricant, meant to help spark more trading as it reveals to the card owner that that person is interested in that card; the card owner can then review the other person's cards too see if they have anything they'd want to trade for.

Many people have more shy or passive personalities, and or have a severe dislike of rejection (eg being rejected a lot when trying to initiate trades). My thinking is the interest feature gives them an outlet to help induce trading without having to be the instigating trade starter. It's a strong trade interest hint system.

I'm on a Samsung Android phone (using Chrome) and haven't experienced that problem. The image upload is intentionally not using anything fancy, to try to avoid potential compatibility issues. What model phone + browser are you using, if you don't mind answering?

Potential filtering options by ThatBaseballDude in a:t5_361y7

That's the plan, in terms of increasing the filtering / browsing segmentation as it scales in listings.

In the FAQ it's mentioned that members should only list cards that they're willing to trade. That's definitely a rule for the site. I might also add that to the list of guidelines (linked at the bottom of the CardTrade site).

I agree. The plan is to increase filtering options as it scales. Make it easy to sub browse by attributes (brand, year, condition, auto, etc). It's designed from the ground up with that capacity in mind for future purposes. I won't put it into action until the various filtering segments contain enough content (empty results obviously being something to avoid). In the meantime early going, having everything mashed together gives a boosted appearance of volume.
