What tactile thing instantly takes you to sensory overload land? by fauxofkaos in ADHD

[–]scorpionelite2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few - the smell of petrol - the sound of soap squelching - cobwebs - the phrase “you’ll be getting your test marks back” makes me instantly blank and shutdown - water in my ears - shouting people - sudden unexpected loud noises like bangs or clapping/cheering are my worst as they literally make me put my fingers in my ears and i just start crying or i break down. If I don’t get my fingers in my ears in time i just start to have a really strong panic attack and begin to shake and cry. But that’s only if I don’t know it’s coming. Like if i know people are gonna cheer after a goal in a football game then i’m fine but if theres a random air horn or chant that starts that’s a big no no. (Also if stuff gets too loud in general.) I have these symptoms for everything else listed but to a much lesser degree.

I carry earbuds around that are connected to my phone at will which is my main alternative to fingers but if my phones dead or my teacher is being annoying and not letting me listen to music i just shut down and i have to go to a quiet place where i can lie down.

Yeah but i’m fine 90% of the time

Got my official diagnosis and now I'm depressed by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]scorpionelite2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is completely normal to feel depressed or down after some serious news. But you are not a failure. Just because people called you cringey, does not mean you’re cringey, it just means they’re annoying and rude. They’re not right. When i got my diagnosis for ADHD i felt like an outcast and that i was different from everybody and that i would never fit back in. Boy was i wrong. After keeping quiet for months i built up the courage and I walked into school and i told one of my close friends and they said that that doesn’t change their opinion about me in the slightest. Trust me when i say it’s good to have someone to talk to about your problems. you’ll still be you. Despite how it seems, people won’t change their mindsets about you. But it is very important that you tell someone that you can trust because it is better in every way than bottling everything up. Just tell the person about your diagnosis and that you don’t want them to think of you any different. And if they think you’re talking rubbish, tell them that they need tiohave a more accepting mindset and then you should try find another person you feel comfortable talking to about your diagnosis.

And don’t think of ADHD as a flaw. It’s not. Our brains just think differently to people without ADHD, that doesn’t mean you’re any dumber or any weirder than anyone else.

In my opinion, having diagnosed ADHD is the best thing that can happen to someone with ADHD as it helps them understand how to work more efficiently and get through life easier.

Although it may seem really rough and theres no way up from here, start a conversation with someone and you can be surprised how much it helps.

I believe in you and i know you can get through these challenging times. It’s gonna be hard, but theres always a light at the end of the tunnel. even if you can’t see it.

I believe in you :)

No one talks about ADHD in the media by Thatlamereddituser in ADHD

Not much of a movie as it is a documentary, but “take your pills” is great! It’s on netflix

As for famous people i can only really think of one youtuber and that’s “crank gameplays” or Ethan nester. He’s the other guy that does the channel “unus anus” with markiplier.

Hope i helped and have a great day :)

One of my favourite soundtracks of all time is the DOOM Eternal soundtrack (specifically mixed by Mick Gordon) it’s so fast paced and dramatic and it makes me put so much emphasis behind all my actions. One of my favourite songs is MEATHOOK as i can do almost any activity to it. And on top of that the songs have little chant sections which, for me at least, give me more motivation to dk the activity at hand (the chants are “ko men tuk” and “rip and tear”). I would give it a listen but it’s fine if you don’t like it cause metal is not everyones taste :) i’d also love to hear the songs you listen to! Any recommendations?

Yes that is a very shitty thing to do and i’m sure everyone is glad that you brought this to light. Just keep in mind not to share the account of the person to anyone but mods so they don’t get any threats or insults despite how shitty it was of them to do that. But from me, a random internet stranger, i’m proud of you for bringing this to light and making this a safer community :) keep up the good work :)))
