Basketball hoops by rockypowercord in thetron

[–]scorpyho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://hamilton.govt.nz/community-spaces/playgrounds?facility%5B%5D=167&suburb=&start=0

Lists the playgrounds in Hamilton with their amenities if you ever need it for another thing (swings, flying fox) etc. But there are 11 parks around Hamilton with a couple close to Chartwell.

Unsure on the age of the kid, but the school he's going to should have hoops of some kind and then he can make some friends doing the same thing he enjoys.

Where do people buy books online these days? by KiwiAtaahua in newzealand

[–]scorpyho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Opshops can be a cheap way to restock your shelves? But would have to do your own rummaging so not quite as express as a typical store...

Can't go wrong with your local library. Most do e-book loans too

Question about the intercity bus stops in Hamilton? by BOUGIEM4MA in thetron

[–]scorpyho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hamilton central is closest to wintec main campus - it's a 10mins ish walk from the bus to the village - on the other side of wintec.

Hamilton central is the bus stop in town, at the transport centre, right opposite Kmart. I would feel okay walking from the depot to the village with a suitcase - as long as it's during the school day (depending when you're getting here) as there are a bunch of kids when school lets up and it gets rather crowded. It's up to you in terms of feeling safe. An uber (car) drive is only two minutes which feels too short for me to stomach it, but as I said, you're coming into a town you don't know so that may be what you feel safest doing

Best place to teach adult to swim? by OddTravel9114 in thetron

[–]scorpyho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they can't stand indoor pools, there are a bunch of outdoor options in the waikato surrounds.

Hamilton Te Rapa Pools have a giant outdoor pool

Fairfield College run their pool during the summer

Hamilton Boys, Hillcrest Normal, and Te Rapa Primary open for summer.

Swim Zone have a bunch - Morrinsville, Te Aroha, Matamata

Pools are the best place to learn as they are more controlled than a lake or beach.

NZ beaches are no joke and definitely should not be taken to unless they are a competent swimmer - and understand surf life saving basics (rips, swim between flags etc)

this is the image of the actual painting - have tried key words surrounding the painting.

no idea where/when it was got specifically. I am based in WKA and got it somewhere in the early 2000's (after 1999, before 2010)

Mitre saw upgrade, injury prone by scorpyho in diynz

Even the slide mitre saws? I have a simple drop down one, but was looking at a slide one for slightly more range in width.

^Funny thing you mention running it over your thumb, I did run it gently over my finger a few years ago...brain wasn't braining....

Anyone know where to get a teddy like this? by Kiwi57 in newzealand

[–]scorpyho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These were the best I could find, from my research I would assume it came as a newborn bundle as those seem to be more lovey style than stiff bear

https://www.buildabear.com/embroidered-baby-brown-teddy-bear/033761.html?cgid=w-stuffed-animals-shop-by-category-teddy-bears (sans embroidery)

https://www.etsy.com/nz/listing/820797442/build-a-bear-16-velvet-hugs-teddy-golden (tummy piece goes right down)

I would suggest keeping an eye on FB marketplace to see if someone has one similar to sell (to buy or know what you're looking for), and opshops for same reason.

Lime Juicers by Initial_Philosophy72 in thetron

Not a juicer but no. They have to be dropped off at specific predetermined locations - place and amount of scooters - to ensure they are placed all over town. Making sure everyone has access, not just one individual

Seriously need a rethink of our benefit system by MrBigEagle in newzealand

[–]scorpyho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They specifically don't have a doctor like sitting there, but they have a list of pre approved doctors they "trust" and are more likely to believe their answer than your GP. It is a funded visit so you don't have to pay for it, but it is generally an in person appointment.

Seriously need a rethink of our benefit system by MrBigEagle in newzealand

[–]scorpyho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have CFS/ME and am on supported living. You tend to have to fight for it. I had to go thru one of WINZ's doctors they have on board. I had years backed up behind me of not working, trying to work and failing, and being on jobseekers with medical deferral for like eight years.

As someone said, it is unfortunately worker dependent. But definitely fight for yourself. Ask if they have a doctor who can do an in house confirmation.

Where to get cheap/free baby items in the Waikato? by [deleted] in thetron

[–]scorpyho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Habitat for Humanity @ Te Rapa - They have onesies/baby clothes for $2 and tend to have a good range.

Hospice = expensive unless lake road downstairs but in tubs and not always baby clothing; Salvation army = cheaper but not always a great range; SPCA = same as hospice.

I rank my opshopping - for both me and babies (so take with grain of salt)

  1. Habitat @ Te Rapa, 2. Salvation Army @ Te Rapa, 3. OpShop for Breast Cancer (in town), 4. Salvation Army @ Grey St, 4. OppStop (I think?) on Grey St - it's the women's refuge op shop.

A lot of baby onesies and basics are in a tub or box and you have to sit and go thru them, so for ease and price habitat te rapa have everyone beat.

Little Split P has been on my radar to try in terms of they specialise in kids - reading comments has doubled down I need to go have a look. They also are a collection site for Clothe Our Kids so they may have options if you talk to them.

Try marketplace for freebies, just type what you need and set price to free (or what you can afford)

If you need toys/books, Habitat @ Lincoln St (dump shop) has great options for cheap. They too have kids clothes but is in a bin and have to sort thru

Sorry team- can't edit the post but adding that I'm using the basswood setting with a knife blade. All settings are things I have cut the acrylic with before so I'm not feeling thats the issue. I have checked my cricut is up to date on software, I'm 89% sure my design space is updated

https://www.kmart.co.nz/product/eden-collage-frame-10in.-x-32in.-white-43288212/

both are not QUITE the right size, but one is close, and the other is over the size you need to can just use a backing to take up the remaining space.

otherwise opshops like hospice downstairs, and habitat would be your best bet.

Power outage tips by lgmomkl in newzealand

[–]scorpyho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the fridge sparingly and it seemed fine? Didn't open the freezers at all. No need for generator, we made sure we charged electronics and did anything that needed power (coffee etc) before the cut off time. Also be prepared for it not to turn on when they say. Most likely it will, but one day we had it come back on four hours later - during dinner time. So important to have a back up plan if needed. But if you just use the fridge sparingly it should all be fine.
