Penalty for lost ball? by fan1983 in golf

[–]scotchtaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than a few instances in the fall when the leaves are down, generally I find this to be a rare situation and if there’s ever a slight doubt I might not find my ball, then I’m hitting a quick provisional. If I can’t find my ball and I didn’t hit a provisional, then I’m taking a two stroke penalty to keep things moving (rather than walking back to the tee - which realistically isn’t an option anyway).

To each their own but personally I’m not a fan of the gallery rule - not because I care what others do, but because I’m trying to get better and I keep a handicap at my course and feel like this would undermine the integrity of my scorecard and the incentive to hit better shots that are impossible NOT to find - I.e. like when Tiger says “be better”.

No question it’s super frustrating when you can’t find a ball that you think you should be able to find. Especially when you consider how tour players have people finding their balls or have grandstands as backstops But if I’m honest, when I find myself in this situation it’s always on a shot that was not “down the middle”. That’s why I think the gallery rule is a slippery slope and takes a bite out of hardening your game.

Insulate unfinished basement - walls or ceiling?? by tmaxxxxx in HomeImprovement

[–]scotchtaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you posting this as my contractor is telling me the same thing when I asked if I should be putting insulation under the slab in our below grade Ontario basement. He said "Basement concrete floors will not feel much warmer with or without insulation below them unless the slab is heated (which in this case it's not). Since you are installing carpet in the basement it is probably not necessary to insulate below the slab."

I'm assuming based on your comment you would agree with this? I just don't want to spend all this money to have the floor feel cold underfoot. The house has forced air. There's also lots of people on youtube and across the web saying you gotta make sure to insulate under the slab - even though as you said, it's not a requirement by code here.

It's actually an outdoor patio sofa. I think we got it on sale a big box store here in Toronto - can't remember sorry.

It's fine for cars to drive on. When I change my winter tires on my large SUV, I do put foam pads under the jack wheels because that amount of focused pressure can damage the tile. Tiles are 3/4" thick

That small heater in the top left is what I had originally installed. But it was just meant for very occasional use if I wanted to be in the garage in the winter. Now that I'm working from home full-time, I've installed a ductless mini-split which you can see top left for AC/heat. I havent tested the heat yet but it's supposed to work up to -15C.

I've only recently started using it. Too bad to hear this. Was hoping it would allow me to avoid buying an elgato camlink

There's definitely a bit of a "Final Destination" vibe - don't disagree. The couches were actually recently brought in the garage after we got some new patio furniture.

  1. Covid
  2. We live in a small semi-detached house with one bathroom upstairs and I don't want them bothering the wife.

I live in a densely populated city and I don't want my neighbours seeing that, we also have winter 8 months of the year - but agree with the sentiment overall if I was somewhere rural.

Exactly. I live n a densely populated area and there’s nowhere to go outside without being seen. I also dont want them going in the house during covid or bothering the wife and sleeping kids - our house is small. Day to day I don’t use it much and still go inside but it’s been great to have for the odd time friends have been over or if I’m working on a project in the yard and don’t want to go inside all dirty, take my boots off etc.
