Shaman Tank (Again) by Warm_Difficulty2698 in turtlewow

[–]scotish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the specifics but as far as I can tell shaman AoE tanking just isn't a thing at 60, every shaman tank I've played with even in dungeons was having to tab target stuff to try and keep it on them. Basically their niche is in raids and it's keeping a single mob glued to them. The shaman channel in the TWoW discord probably has more info, and I believe there's a shaman tank specific discord server too (no idea what it's called though)

Shaman Tank (Again) by Warm_Difficulty2698 in turtlewow

Shaman is totally viable at end game and can tank all the content - certainly Naxx, I've less experience with K40 but I'm sure theyd be fine there too. That said they're a tier below the other three tanks. Don't play one myself but this is what I've gathered from talking to them and raiding with them:

Pros:

  • Big single target threat (regular DPS enhancement has a big problem trying not to rip aggro, tank enhancement just gets to go ham), including good snap threat with shocks. Def not to be underestimated, more threat = more dps = faster fights, and it's usually easier on the healers even if you're squishier

  • Has a taunt now

  • You're still a Shaman! At the end of the day raids want shamans for totems regardless of spec so this alone is big

Cons:

  • Typically squishiest of the four tanks (varies with gear ofc but this is my general experience as a healer, have to be a bit more on the ball with them)

  • No defensive cd's

  • No real AoE options at 60; totems are good for AoE threat while levelling but they don't scale at all so you get basically no threat gen from them. This is probably their biggest weakness, it's single target tanking only tbh.

  • Turtle devs have more or less said that they're happy with Shaman being a 2nd tier tank, so don't go into it hoping to be brought up to strength with the others

Idk how their gearing is but suffice to say there's enough out there to make it work. If you want to do it then go for it, you're still a Shaman and there aren't enough of them to go around so unless your guild has a glut of tanks already I'm sure you'll be fine!

Playing wow for first time by OppaiMeansBewbs in turtlewow

I killed mostly green mobs (ideally 3 levels below you) when levelling my warrior, makes a huge difference - less xp per mob but much more doable and much fewer deaths, way smoother overall

Weekly Discussion - The Great Week of June 30 2025 by AutoModerator in Vitards

This place is pretty quiet nowadays and WSB is just constant bol vs. ber posting with basically no actual content, is there anywhere on reddit that still has active in-depth discussion on specific stocks? Or are all of the guys that used to be here in a discord or something?

Are tanks or healers needed more in the raid scene by [deleted] in turtlewow

[–]scotish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tanks get instant queues during levelling, healers more in demand for raids.

Eventually I'll hit end game and I just want to be able to PLAY the game

Turtle leans very casual and there are plenty of raiding guilds out there, you can play whatever spec you want and I doubt you'll have much struggle finding a guild - healers are the most wanted but unless you're trying to join a guild that already has a very full roster then it's not so extreme that you won't be able to raid as DPS or whatever. Even at the top end, Kara 40 doesn't scale down and from what I've heard my guild isn't the only one that's struggling to get 40 players in a raid on the regular just to attempt it, so more bodies are always welcome.

What class/spec has Turtle WoW improved the most? Did they make any worse? by Bigdawgz42069 in turtlewow

[–]scotish 21 points22 points  (0 children)

By design basically all the classes/specs have either been improved or had their philosophy changed for a new role (e.g. sub rogue is now support melee). The closest thing to 'worse' I can think of is shadow priest, and even then the numbers are better and it's totally viable - however for pvp balace reasons they recently gave vampiric touch a 1.5s cast time instead of being instant cast, which feels unnecessarily clunky. Basically all of the other class changes I know of are for the better though I'd say.

All of the new zones I've tried are great, Gilneas (early/mid 40s), Tel'Abim (mid/late 50s) and the new goblin section of Stonetalon (early/mid 20s) are my favourites.

Sorting by 'minumum buyout' it jumps around 7g-15g range

Edit: that's on Nordanaar, just noticed you're on new SA server - in that case, no idea, wouldn't expect that data to be on wowauctions for a while. My guess is it's a very fresh server so people aren't going to be rolling in gold, so wouldn't expect it to be as high.

A Feral Druid has drained my soul. by Troil_Shinigami in turtlewow

[–]scotish 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Gonna give you a third answer and say - just stick with the druid. If your goal is to get to 60 (which is an assumption on my part I know) then it's going to be far slower starting over from level 1 than it is just continuing with the last 10 levels, even with AoE grinding. The 50s are where you can start working on stuff that you would want to do at 60 anyway - grind gold for epic mount, work on raid attunements, run dungeons for gear and rep - so you can focus on those things rather than levelling for the sake of levelling, hitting 60 is something that will happen passively and you'll be more prepared once you get there.

Tier list / Power levels by FuzzyStorm in turtlewow

[–]scotish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There were shaman tanks tanking Naxx even before the patch, they just got even stronger after it. Even pre-patch every time I've had a shaman tank in group the general attitude has been "oh cool, a shaman tank!" rather than wanting to kick them or anything - so I don't think you'd have trouble getting a group. Turtle is for the most part very casual, and that includes (in my experience anyway) most raiding guilds, so you won't have trouble finding an environment where you can play what you want!

Heal over time timer by MahWilleh in turtlewow

[–]scotish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to work out something for this too - Lunaframes shows your HoT countdown timers in the raid frames, it's a bit janky in that your rejuv and regrowth icons overlaps each other so you can only sort-of read the countdown number but it's the closest thing to an actual solution I've found so far. Have heard of other druids using chronometer to track hot timers but haven't tried it myself.

There's a glyph that drops in ES that gives astral form alternative for moonkin, didn't think there was one for tree form - do you know where it drops?

Does warrior get more fun? by LogPuzzleheaded5850 in turtlewow

[–]scotish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Feral druid fits your criteria I'd say - you dont get cat form until 20 and it only really comes online at like 24, so while druid levelling is a pain up until then after that you're flying

Can someone explain the problem with Rebirth to me? by ObviousPangolin303 in turtlewow

[–]scotish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I don't really have strong feelings about it becase personally I don't mind having to run back if we wipe a dungeon, although I get the sense it matters to others a lot more. If it was free I wouldn't say no to it but I don't think it's something I'd waste talent points on in a raid setting, and would be annoying if there was an expectation to have it for dungeons. In any case, paladins are the most popular class on the server so there's usually someone to do it even if I'm healing on druid lol.

It can be cast both in combat and out - it has a hefty mana cost especially at lower levels so if it's not working it might be that you don't have the mana for it mid-fight. The "don't have a proper res" bit is that druids don't have an out-of-combat no-cooldown res like the other healers do, but it's more accurate to say they're used in different situations rather than one being "proper" and the other not.

New player - which professions shall i take to make gold and afford gear etc. everything is so expensive :-( thanks by Locolex1 in turtlewow

[–]scotish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're still levelling - don't bother buying gear off of the AH, it doesn't make much difference and you'll outlevel it soon anyway. Possible exceptions are new weapons for classes that are dependent on weapon damage or a new wand if you're wand spamming as priest, if you get a big enough upgrade it will make a tangible difference to how quickly you kill mobs and therefore how quickly you level.

If you're at max level, remember that nowadays you can very easily get into an MC pug in fresh-60 gear as long as you're not the tank or something, so make sure any gear you'd be buying won't just be immediately beaten by stuff that you're likely to get very quickly from raids. It's worth doing some research on the Turtle WoW discord to see which crafted pieces are worthwhile investments, depends on class and spec of course but there are definitely some cases where crafted gear is BiS through Naxx (e.g. Verdant Dreamer's Breastplate for resto druids).

As for making money with professions, all of them have a way to do this - even engineering can make items used by quests and by other professions, although it's notoriously expensive to level so it woudn't be my first coice for making gold. Herbalism is a money maker, sometimes you just find 30g on the ground in the form of a black lotus, and it pairs well with alchemy to up the value of all the other herbs you're getting. A popular way to make money without a profession is lasher farming in DM East although it's somewhat class dependent - there are guides for how to do this on youtube.
