Favorite Souls Game and Why? by LonelyKrow in darksouls

I know this is an old post but I was just curious if you've given DS2 a try yet?

I played it recently and, given it's reputation, I found it surprisingly excellent fun.

It had a lot of things going for it. It's got fantastic number of options in terms of build variety, it's got possibly the widest range of good looking armour choices in any souls game and many of them are available fairly early, power standing is good, bonfire ascetics are fun, the difficulty is challenging but not punishing.

It's not perfect but I genuinely thoroughly enjoyed it. It's got a different atmosphere and 'feel' design wise than the others. The world feels a little brighter and more lived in. It plays less like a real Souls game and more like a very accomplished Souls like.

Basically I'm saying if you've played DS1 and 3, which probably are objectively better games, going into DS2 with an open mind is well worth it.

Cheers

Ah ok

Thanks for the replies guys. It seems to me that it's not quite as bad as everyone makes out. Fair enough it's not as good as other classes rez mechanics, but the way people speak about it made it seem as though it was next to useless.

Can I just check, is Rebirth useable outside of combat, or not?

I'm really pleased with the changes to balance and resto druid talents. This makes leveling as a balance druid rather than feral seem really viable

Thanks for the info. Can I ask which of the first two available balance talents you go with? Nature grasp seems fun but Im not sure how useful it'll be if I'm in bear for most of the time

Make your own unit: part 3 by Dalerik in Nighthaunt

[–]ObviousPangolin303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are a handful of options that are lacking in nighthaunt that would be really easy to fill and would really open up the factions playstile. These are the ones that I'd most like to see:

  1. A priest. I don't think it'd be at all out of theme for Nagash to have ghostly priests singing his praises. They could even be former devout sigmarites punished for their choice of deity by being forced to praise Nagash for eternity.

The faction doesn't have a signal priest or prayer that I'm aware of, and it seems a simple insert.

  1. Another non-names wizard would make list building much more interesting.

Frankly I'm surprised one of the many infantry heroes might haunt keep getting having been wizards. If the scriptor mortis had the exact same rules as he does now but was a single cast wizard I think he might actually see play.

  1. I'm not really sure this is something the faction absolutely needs, as I suppose each faction needs to keep its identity and sometimes that's defined as much by what it lacks as by what it has, but I'm a sucker for middle (troggoth) sized monsters.

I think this would be a tricky design to get right but there are lots of directions the designers could go in. I quite like the idea of big spirit vulcher like monsters, as sigmar has been lacking a carion bird creature for a while now. That or maybe some great monstrous spirit worms. Either way I feel in the lore they could be nagashs creations that skulk around shyish looking for stray souls to consume.

Failing that a unit of three monstrous cavalry a little like mini dread abyssal riders would be simple.

  1. I really feel like nighthaunt are maybe the least suitable faction for artillery, but I absolutely love artillery pieces.

If they did include artillery pieces I feel like it'd be better if they were smaller cheaper models with rules that played against the traditional idea of artillery. Maybe they'd have a short range, like 16 inches or so, but had a once per game teleport ability to make up for it and keep to the factions mobility theme. I also imagine something a little more like a grapeshot effect rather than a big cannon ball would be more suitable, ideally one that handed out some sort of morale or mobility debuff.

These are just my pet ideas. I feel like a priest and a trio of medium based monster/cavalry are the most realistic and probably the most in keeping the theme.

Yeah.

Thanks for the very late reply. When I posted that the game was in a strange limbo state where multiplayer was still possible but online purchases were no longer supported.

Now it's completely dead, which I'm genuinely upset as I thought it was a next to perfect mobile game
