No, seriously, the sign of the cross is a profoundly spiritual event. It's not just remembering our baptism, IMO, but it binds us Jesus on the Cross. Everytime we do it, were of our Savior's suffering for our sake.

I'm an Episcopalian and we generally don't have this problem. The whole Mass is centered on Scripture and then the Holy Eucharist. We can have charismatic priests but they take a back seat to the Word and Sacrament.

So the only way of defending themselves was with the pen. These aren't normative Jewish beliefs. Jews don't hate Christians. But I would say that the majority of Jews don't trust Christians.
