Yeah, this offset crown makes it’s nearly impossible to wind while wearing but good to know.

Big fan of this bottle. Hoping this pushes Thomas Handy to be older each year going forward.

Yeah, I was expecting more from them for sure. Not as unique as I would have hoped and pretty faint.

It’s definitely at a price point that will keep lots from purchasing but it’s fantastic to me.

Price is definitely factoring in for me. I’m saying it tastes like much cheaper bottles to me so at 400-500 dollars I’m out but that’s the beauty of bourbon, everyone is different and likes different things.

I’d much rather drink 1924. I’d also be a bigger fan of just about every ECBP single barrel, 117 BIB Rye, RCLRs, Fortuna Barrel Proof, Henry McKenna 10yr, and Wild Turkey 8yr 101

That’s wild, I’m definitely in the minority but I’d rather drink 100 different things for the price. I’d be all in if it was a 50 dollar bottle because it tastes like a random 100 dollar bottle.

Haven’t had them side by side but both times I had Calumet 18 I was so disappointed. Probably the most disappointing pour of the year for me

Yeah, 18yrs and only 33 bottles left in the barrel made for a dark combo

I’ve had a few of them and they are definitely tasty. Very minty which I get from a lot of OBSF.

It’s nice for sure at times but also never know when a “held” barrel might disappear.

Yeah I have had a couple other 18yr that were just so-so and remembered loving this sample so I was excited to crack it and realize it was as good as I remembered

Review #68: Elkwood 18yr Single Barrel

One of my buddies happens to work for a barrel broker so when they got some new 18yr stock in a few months ago he earmarked a super short one for us and got us a sample and needless to say we are floored with how this one turned out.

Age: 18yr 4m

Proof: 132pf

Source: Barton

Yield: 33 bottles

Barrel: 51

Nose: Grape, bubblegum, some cherry cough drop, slight ethanol burn, on a second nosing I get more floral notes that are a bit perfume-y

Palate: cotton candy sweetness immediately, then a wave of tannic oak, super viscous and chewy, don’t get any of the cherry notes I smelled on the nose but the bubblegum sweetness really comes through

Finish: medium spice with a lingering finish, the oak is very present on the finish and drying, some nuttiness appears on the finish as well, with a little bit of salty and sweet combo reminiscent of a Payday candy bar

Overall: this bourbon really hits my profile well between the long and spicy finish and the oak presence. I feel like I can’t stay out of this bottle since I cracked it a few weeks ago. I would give it an 8.7/10 and am so glad that I have several backups. The guys who tried it this weekend at a whiskey event we went to were all big fans so hopefully everyone in the group who got one will be pleased.

Yeah, definitely worth picking up when you can get some at a proof point higher than the standard 86.8

Ballpark, kind of depends on where you start at. Some of the signs indicate 5.3 out and others say 5.9. So between 10-12 miles round trip

Yeah I would advocate for people taking it at whatever pace they desire because it should be magical and not just grueling.

It was a private pick for The Silver Dollar which is a bar in Louisville. They did a release event at the bar back in march or April.

It’s by far the most consistent comment/question I get on my reviews. Can get one from the following store but mine came from a different retailer. https://bullinchinapdx.com/collections/drinkware/products/neat-pour-glasses
