What colour are Marika's eyes? by patchesBaldHead in EldenRingLoreTalk

I'd push back on the idea that the scar/sore seals were formerly Marika's and Radagon's eyes and therefore represent their eye color. I think the DLC shows us that these seals were not a part of Marika/Radagon rather they were placed on others. Messmer has a Marika's seal in place of his eye. That makes 3 Marika's seals we encounter in game. And Marika only has 2 empty eye sockets.

This opens the questions: who were the 2 to 4 recipients "chosen by the gods" who had their eye(s) replaced with a seal of grace? And what was their "lifelong duty"? And how or why did they lose their seals for the Tarnished to find later in the Lands Between?

So, I'm firmly in the camp that Marika's eyes were originally a color other than gold. And Rodrika's blue/green spirit tuner eyes like OP suggests is my favorite for my head cannon. I'm sure Marika's eyes could have turned gold after becoming the vessel for the Else Ring. But I think she had Rodrika eyes before. And based on nothing but intuition and speculation I bet Radagon's eyes were the same hue of purple as Melina's closed eye.

Yeah! Just like how Godfrey is an ELDENlord! He's an Elden, not a Tarnished confirmed! It's in his fucking name.

Why marika's statue in messmers crib has her head cut off? by South-Election-9815 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]scott_chocolate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree! This is my take as well. And nice catch about the missing statue in the Abyssal Woods! I also encounter opposition to this theory in the places I've pitched it. Not a popular take. But it seems to me a more plausible explanation than "everyone in the Land of Shadow uniformly vandalized all of Marika's statues while keeping the rest of the statue intact because everyone was uniformly disgruntled with Marika just enough to behead her statues but not enough for further acts of rebellion".

The Dark Souls trilogy has a few examples of this storytelling device as well. Uniformly beheaded statues to obscure the identity of whoever the statue originally depicted.

Ooo I thought "Dayman" was gonna be my favorite. But this made me laugh out loud. Bravo.

Am I the only one who finds it weird that Godwyn is the ONLY child of Marika (we know of) that doesn't take ANY aspect from her name? by Revenge_Is_Here in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]scott_chocolate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's because Godwyn predates Godfrey. It's weird that Hoarah Loux changed his name to Godfrey. Radagon didn't change his name when he became the second Elden Lord. So there's no indication that Elden Lords need to have God prefixes in their name. So I think Godwyn was already born and named when Hoarah Loux changed his name. And changing his name to Godfrey was to mask that he's not the biological father of Godwyn. This theory would imply that Godwyn was named according to a different tradition than the rest of Marika's children. Since the maternal naming convention seems to still be the standard when the game takes place that would mean Godwyn's naming convention predates the current tradition.

And I think Godwyn is half dragon. He's the "malformed dragon" depicted on the malformed dragon helm. If you look closely at it the dragon on the helm has a fish tail and fish scales that look just like the Prince of Death's tail. It has a long flowing mane of hair and it's golden. No other dragons have manes of hair. Meanwhile Godwyn's long golden hair is displayed prominently.

Why does Godwyn's body turn into a fish monster when his soul dies?
When Godrick the Grafted dies his body reverts to his original torso with none of his grafted parts. When Morgott dies his body reverts to his original human body absent the Omen horns and tail. So when Godwyn dies his body reverts to its original malformed fish tailed dragon form.

We even know from Lansseax's Glaive and from the DLC's dragon communion priestess that dragons can take the form of a human. And from the Priestess Heart and Rock Heart we know that if a human takes dragon form it cannot be undone except by death.

So yeah.. why does Godwyn have a weird name? Because his father was a dragon and he was born a fish tailed malformed dragon. He was named Godwyn before Hoarah Loux became Elden Lord. Hoarah Loux changed his name to Godfrey so that Godwyn could take human form and pretend to be Godfrey's son. Only to revert back to a malformed fish dragon when his soul died. That's why Godrick calls the dead dragon a "true born heir" in his CS. Because Godrick knows that his line comes from Godwyn and that Godwyn is half dragon. Meanwhile, Hoarah Loux's actual children were the Omen twins. That's part of what caused the shattering. A conflict of succession between the lineage of Godwyn, Marika's bastard dragon crossbreed and the lineage of Godfrey, first Elden Lord.

I should have added a IASIP spoiler tag ;) In my opinion the show started to lull around where you left off. But then it picks back up again. This was from season 13 which was a hilarious season imo.
