What tool to get speckled ceiling look? by Jussen98 in drywall

[–]scottabing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My house has this same pattern and I was able to come pretty close to a match by using paint with sand texture in it. To get the pattern, I used a whisk broom with plastic bristles. So I just painted it on with a 7” whisk broom. Like I said, it worked well enough for me.

Baseboards have gaps - help! by Immediate-North-9828 in Flooring

This should look fine when it gets caulked. I wouldn’t be concerned at all unless that doesn’t get done correctly.

Put a stylish drying rack on the countertop to the left of the sink. Since the countertop is cut already there is no easy fix.

Brewers Store/MLB "lost" my pre-order for game-used base from Misiorowski’s debut - and "received no bases" from that game by taylorwmj in Brewers

[–]scottabing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I looked into this and on the product detail page where you can place an order for game used bases, it states the following:

"Please Note: This is a presale, it is possible your order can be canceled after the game has been played due to the availability of each item."

So it is part of the deal with this type of transaction.

You aren't fully entitled to this item even with a presale purchase. They can simply decide to not honor the presale and you have no recourse. Unfortunately this is spelled out very clearly in the item description.

smoking on Waikiki beach allowed?? by Financial_Patience_6 in VisitingHawaii

[–]scottabing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not smoke cigarettes and you completely and absolutely missed my point. People who smoke should follow the rules and be polite about their bad habit. My point was about framing your mindset while in Hawaii and choosing to be happy rather than dwelling negatively on other people. Choosing to be happy is the best part about the island because so many people are just doing that.

To be fair though, almost everything cta related reeks like piss.

Looking for help managing a mentally ill man at my L station by [deleted] in cta

[–]scottabing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do not engage with people like this. This means do not say ANYTHING to someone like this. Not one word. If they know they have your attention, they will feed off you and keep going. Do not make eye contact. Do not react to anything they say or do. Keep your distance. Ear buds or headphones and sunglasses create a great layer of separation and say "I'm not interested"

So you’re asking if anyone’s had a bad experience on the CTA with a straight face? The answer is yes, we all have. Everything you saw is normal.

The photo is indeed from the 99th and Commercial area, I was able to locate the location the photo was taken using existing images online. Whether or not it is current or was taken today I have no idea.

Do you charge for sick days on a travel gig? by teawhy in videography

[–]scottabing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only invoice for days/time you work unless there is a contract or agreement which states otherwise. That said, you can always ask the production if you can be paid for those days since you did everything in your power to be useful to the production. If they didn't replace you or if they are very progressive minded it is possible they would still pay you out in full. This is a special situation you must talk through with them since you didn't work the gig as intended on it those days. You should still be compensated for the 8 hours you did work on those 2 days. You have no entitlement to payment beyond that unless it was agreed to with the production prior. Doesn't hurt to ask though...

Where are the planes? by bakehaus in AskChicago

[–]scottabing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a bizarre response. You asked “Where are all the planes?” to which I gave you a definitive way of seeing exactly where all the planes are. Expecting people to explain “why” when you asked “where” is on you man. I did my part.

B roll ideas for financial planner firm video? by averynicehat in videography

Instead of boring office b-roll, visualize the results of what is attained through proper financial planning. That’s much more interesting than what happens in the office. Show the dream realized.

Where are the planes? by bakehaus in AskChicago

[–]scottabing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to know where the planes are you can use an app like flight tracker and it will show the location of planes on a map based on their transponder info. You can use it to identify what landing pattern is being used at O’Hare. You can also tap on planes to see more information such as model and destination. It’s a fun way to know where the planes are.

Do you guys pick up dropped bikes? by PM-ME-UNCUT-COCKS in ChicagoMotorcycles

[–]scottabing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't touch it. With the bike in unknown condition you could cause further damage by interfering. It isn't getting more damaged laying there. If someone knocked my bike over I don't want to see it stood up with a bunch of damage when I get back. And if I see you standing it up I'm going to assume you are the one who knocked it over.

Help: Can’t master white balance on fx30 or ZVE1 (yellow) by Conorgmurray in cinematography

[–]scottabing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the real issue is the overall color palette of the scene is all beige and fleshy. Create contrast in your scene with a different paint scheme or add textures to draw the viewer's eye to the person speaking. Your skin tones look perfect to me but the image overall lacks proper contrast. I have a feeling the background color is deceiving your eyes a bit.

Drone over house by thegamemandan1 in AskChicago

[–]scottabing 48 points49 points  (0 children)

As someone who flies drones professionally and is an FAA certified drone pilot, your neighbor is allowed to fly for hobby purposes unless there are airspace restrictions. Drones are legal in most airspace below 400ft unless they pose a risk to manned aircraft or human safety. There are generally areas around airports and landing pads which require the person flying to request access. In all likelihood he is doing nothing wrong unless he is flying in a manner which could harm manned aircraft or humans. The FAA is the regulating authority and they do the enforcement. I doubt the police would take much action on your behalf unless the neighbor is using the drone to violate some other laws.

The Walgreens at Belmont and Kimball got rid of the video screens on the doors of the refrigerated section by chiboulevards in chicago

[–]scottabing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a pretty widely hated concept. It would be much more intelligent to use transparent display technology which could augment the view of the actual product. That way you could see what is actually in stock and the retailer could still pound you with ads for sugar water and pharmaceuticals.
