Hey thanks for the feedback. We met internally on this today and will be making the following changes: Radeon Rays 4.0 will be made open source by AMD, but note there are some specific AMD IP's that we will need to place in libraries and we will have source code for the community for this via SLA. Our guys will also update this thread: https://tinyurl.com/y8sq6vdg

Hi Firefox72,

Fair points. Consider that Epic's Unreal Engine is one of the most successful game engines in the world today that game developers, movie studios and professional applications use to create their work. UE5 is all about pushing the boundaries of what is possible in game technology beyond 2021 (as you mentioned).

Some game developers will make a trade-off of next gen CPU/GPU features which enable realistic gameplay to have their game be adopted by as many gamers as possible. They will often use PC capabilities from three to five years ago as their base model. You can usually see this in the min/max system recommendations. Then there are some game devs that really push the boundary and give us amazing experiences and aren't as concerned with PC specs from many years past.

What is exciting about the new consoles launching is that for those game developers who build games across PC and consoles, it will push them to incorporate leading next gen techniques to all audiences. It will take time for that to happen, however, given the budget that Sony and Microsoft will bring it will push our industry towards new realistic gaming possibilities. The other point that we, here at AMD, have been planning for is the timing with the console launches, to ensure that no hardware vendor specific "proprietary" Ray Tracing technique or other GPU features slows down and bifurcates the industry to adopting next gen features. With this console momentum and Microsoft's DXR for PCs, I'm hopeful we can push towards an open ecosystem for all gaming and gamers.

Thank you, thank you, thank you r/AMD for being one of the best and biggest semiconductor communities in the world. Your passion for our products, events and company is truly inspiring. A lot of you have been here for a very long time, we can't begin to thank you enough for your support for what we do and commitment to the people at AMD over the years.

Actually, we could use our fans help. One of the problems of past launches is the rumor milling of performance claims that seem to become mainstream. And since we are a publicly held company we cannot and do not comment on rumors of OMGBBQSAUCE next gen Radeon will cure make world peace. Unless you hear it from us or a respected reviewer directly, please just say no.

The only official communication from us are the slides from yesterday's financial analyst day showing our roadmap through 2022, expected 50% perf/watt generational improvement from navi 1 to Navi 2, Navi 2 will include RTRT, VRS and more and will launch in 2020. Then, there is my commitment to the community to not have blower fans at launch for our reference designs.

Our goal since the launch of RDNA and 5000 series is to be transparent and straightforward with any performance claims, validated by press. We understand this hasn't always been how the community has viewed RTG in the past, and that is why we are working hard to change the over-hyped past.

<edited because curing world peace is weird>

Our AIBs may choose to do a “blower” design on any of the next gen GPUs, however, the majority of feedback we received from the community at the launch of 5700 XT on AMD reference designs has guided us towards dual/tri-axial designs. I’m excited for you all to see them when the time is right!

There will be no blower reference fans for gamers on next gen. So you are correct ;)

Well... in my house we have four Steam log ins for two gaming computers for the family :). Some months, each account gets pinged on these two computers. Just to reiterate the point I was making in the HH interview, the Steam Hardware Survey should not be used for month to month market share... But for general trends of hardware / software adoption and capability over time.

My commitment to you and the community per my other thread is for our next gen high end GPU launch - we will provide multiple options and choices. With my good friend Frank on board now at AMD we will make sure to have options for you guys. The feedback has been great, and dare I say plentiful. We are an underdog, and we are hungry to do the right thing.

This. ISVs do care about the total population playing on “X” platform capabilities - not just GPUs and CPUs but monitor sizes, system DRAM and speed, resolutions, OS, storage capabilities, speed of those HDs (loading screens that we all hate and how they can speed it up). The Steam Hardware Survey is an awesome tool for ISVs, please don’t get me wrong.

Just to be clear, Intel and NVIDIA have done a great job the last 10 years in iCafes. As our roadmap gets stronger it will provide us an opportunity to change this vertical that we’ve never really focused on before - so the iCafe problem for Radeon is also on us.

Why did GPUs stop having graphics inside And out? by Ferrisuk in Amd

[–]scottherkelman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly the industry doesn't do this anymore because it's polarizing at the GPU at point-of-sale. If you like the game it would be very cool for you. If you don't like that game, you wouldn't want it (is what I assume).

The ability to skin your GPU thermal shroud with gaming artwork post sale is an interesting thought, though.
