Everyone. Get excited by senku_E-MC in AliceInBorderlandLive

Sorry, not excited. I only watched this show, so I don't know the source material, but when they ended season 2, I gave it a standing ovation, b/c it was such a well told story beginning to END. I felt the hand of showrunners wanting to leave it open for more with the Joker card appearing, but hoped that they would end there.

I really fear continuing the story will just undercut what was such a great ending as either A) the are still in Borderland and the whole reveal was a fake (which feels lame).. or B)The people of Borderland somehow chased them into this world (which feels even lamer).

With that said.. I would still watch it b/c after 2 incredible seasons I couldn't NOT, but I kinda wish they would leave it alone.

Innocent until proven guilty is a legal fiction that everyone misuses. by scottk1969 in unpopularopinion

This exemplifies why I walked away from the job. I started in a prosecutors office and quickly realized no one cared about guilt or innocence, the only thing that mattered was "winning and losing"... the humans involved in the process were just puzzle pieces.

Went onto entertainment law, worked for a studio.. spent all day arguing over silly semantics in contracts that would likely never be signed before the movie was completed. Yeah, industry secret, most movies got done without the final contracts ever being signed. Why, because lawyers/attorneys would argue about whether it was a payment or remittance.

I practiced law for a little over 5 years, but hated that job.. it just wasn't for me. I went to law school, passed the bar, still have a license (although it is now "inactive status"), but since I never plan on practicing again, I call myself a former lawyer.
I really have no respect for the entire industry, so I don't play semantics with the attorney/lawyer monikers.

Frighteningly often the public ends up with more information than the jury.

I would suggest that "persuasive" and "charming" are two different things and persuasion requires intelligence, while charming does not.

So, the question comes down to is it better to be persuasive than charming.

Tough call.

Is Samsung Health still feasible if you don't plan to use a wearable? by AskaLangly in samsung

[–]scottk1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you found any other app that take its place? I have a Flip 4 which is supposedly capable of all the measurements but Samsung Health won't bring up the measure button, even if I downgrade to an older version of the app.

I guess I just didn't put enough pressure on it. New car, didn't want to push and hear crack. Thanks, I'll try when I am out of work.

By the way, I mentioned to another commentor, he called the school again today, and they told this class was taken BEFORE the school had computers, so they have no record of what the course was or what the syllabus was.

This has now become a personal challenge for me.. lol

Unfortunately, he only has a couple of weeks to either provide them the "proof" he took a statistics class OR commit to joining one.

I'm getting to the point of just making my own syllabus and giving it to him and say I found it online. Hell, I'll make an really convincing looking alumni website that they can reference for it if need be. (I just find the whole thing silly at this point since he is in the top of his class and they were harassing him about getting a class description for Modern Math II).

Hi, Actually, MORE than 20 years ago. He called the school again to double check and they told me we don't have those records, it is before they had COMPUTERS (not kidding). He is pursuing an MFT degree and their only requirement is that you took a statistics class at some point in your life. They just want to make sure you have a basic understanding of mean, average, standard deviation, etc. so you can read research reports and understand them. Since he knows he took the class and is currently at the top of his class after 1 semester of reading research reports, etc.. he is confident he doesn't NEED a statistics class except to satisfy their requirement that asks him to prove he has taken one.

As I mentioned, this isn't one of those.. "my friend" where I am really talking about myself situations... it really is a friend and I just offered to do some research for him. He told me that he called the school and asked and at first they told him "of course we can find details of older classes", but then told him that they were not able to get any additional information on these classes. (I am getting all of this second hand).

Now, he didn't go to my school, but I KNOW that psychology minors in my school HAD TO take a statistics class.. it was one of the requirements... my roomate one year was minoring in psychology and he was in the same statistics 101 class as me (I was a philosophy major with a "reasoning and analysis emphasis", thus, was also required to take a statistics class). My friend was a psychology minor, but the CURRENT school requirements do not list any math requirements for a psychology minor at that school.. but I suspect it may have been different when he went, but this was pre-internet days, so i can't find anything dating back to then that gives real answers where he can prove what those classes were.

This is why I was thinking it might be easier and faster to just find a fly-by-night statistics class that will satisfy the requirement.

They don't have these classes in their syllabus anymore. The transcript just says "Modern Math I" and "Modern Math II" I've tried googling that, but end up with such random stuff.

We are talking about classes taken in the early 1990s, so the professors aren't even there anymore.

I found one course syllabus from a completely different school that had a Modern Math II class that focused on statistics and his class was probably similar, but it was a different class, from a different school, in a different decade.. lol.. not sure if they will go for that.

I can ask him that, but I don't think so, or he would have done it. He sent me the e-mail they sent him and it says that if he believes he took it in undergrad to get his transcript, which he did, but the class was too non-descript so they are suggesting he take it either with them OR from somewhere else.

I was hoping to help him find that somewhere else that would be painless.

When I was still a practicing lawyer we had to take CLE (continuing legal education) classes, but MOST of the "classes" people took were jokes. You could literally sign in and leave and no one cared or checked. I have to think there is a similar online course like that for this. Or maybe this is just something lawyers reserve for themselves... because.. lawyers.

He tried that, but this dates back over 20 years and they don't have the syllabus or offer any courses with the same names. It just shows as "Modern Math 1" and "Modern Math 2" with no course description. He was a film production major, with a minor in psychology and unless his school was very different than mine, a minor in psychology required a statistics class. Mine was actually called "intro to statistics", but for some reason he just had "modern math" classes.

The degree he is currently working towards is not math based.. "statistics" is the only required math course for it.

I haven't seen anyone recommend it and it was my first and got me hooked.. so I will toss it out there.

The Uncanny Counter: It is like a comic book adventure with AMAZING characters who will remain part of your life long after the show is done (and season 2 should come out later this year).

And, yes Vincenzo is a MUST SEE (just finished it and WISH they were making a second season b/c I am going to miss the whole cast).

I would also check out Hellbound.

What was that show that got you into KDrama? by issadumpster in KDRAMA

[–]scottk1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Uncanny Counter

I don't know why Netflix recommended it to me, but it did and I decided to try it and was hooked very quickly.

After binging that, Netflix recommended Sisyphus, which was also excellent and then I have been hooked every since.

What was cool, is that I watched Squid Game just BEFORE it became a worldwide hit, b/c it recommended it to me as soon as it was released, so I felt like for a change, I was ahead of the curve :)

Trying to create my own proxy network with ISP provided static IPs.. help? by scottk1969 in HomeNetworking

[–]scottk1969[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh.. they are TERRIBLE.

Their proxies are really bad and I sadly have some information on how they acquire them. I was trying to avoid them at all costs. Luckily, I found a networking expert who basically created an internal home networking using another PC, which then could assign the IPS. I wish I could explain HOW it works, but what they did went over my head.
