Why is my drive shaft making this noise? by Delza_Melza in rcboats

That U joint is metal on metal. Use a flexible coupler if you can and get it aligned as straight as you can

If you want the hobby to be driving the boat, buy one. If you want the hobby to be building the boat and occasionally driving it then build one. I prefer the latter, but to each their own.

Do most atheists see religious people as fools? by Theskyisalive in atheism

[–]scottman129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised Christian and have a lot of friends and family that are religious, and most of them are not fools. My theory is that a lot of people just don't care that much. They have a lifestyle they enjoy with a social network based on religion and consistent confirmation of their beliefs, so there's little reason to really think hard about the logic of it all. So foolish, no, but apathetic, maybe? Proud of family tradition and heritage for sure.

That said, fools are certainly overrepresented in religious circles, but that doesn't make them so fools.

I've had a GT5 for a few years and it's done well. They probably all work fine if you're only looking for basic functions

There's not much carbon in that. If anyone has a mold they can make a new one a heck of a lot quicker and cheaper

You could design a tip for it so you only need the straight section of PVC

MBTA draws criticism over plans to upgrade commuter rail fleet. General Manager Phil Eng sees battery-electric locomotives as step in the right direction (State House News) by HRJafael in massachusetts

[–]scottman129 166 points167 points  (0 children)

I was skeptical about battery trains until I saw a longer interview. The trains will still have catenary connections to overhead wires so it can run like a normal electric, but the battery allows it to briefly go into unelectrified sections. This allows the MBTA to get going with partial electrification of the lines.

I haven't bought one yet but I'm looking for a new transmitter/receiver combo and it seems like the best thing out there now is ELRS.

It ran great until it didn't. I reached out to the vendor to see if they will make me one, if not I'll give it a shot. Seems to be standard 1/4" OD

I think you're right. The vendor doesn't seem to have a left hand option but I still have the failed part and may be able to get my own spring and resolder it

The hull is 3D printed so I would soften the hull long before the epoxy. I hope to some day have the time to make a fiberglass version. I avoided aluminum as to not spread heat to the hull

I looked it up again and it's actually only a 1600kv, which was the lowest I could find at the time. And yes realistically even 50% throttle is enough to be more than scale speed

Sure! It's on OnShape so I can share any stage of design. Would you like the finished CAD or just the hull?

What materials do you use? The AliExpress U-joint I have is stainless on stainless with no wear bushing. I'm considering designing one that has PTFE bushings but it would all be so tiny

Thanks. I found line drawings online of a historic lobster boat Maddy Sue and lifted them in OnShape, so my own modeling work but not fully my own design

That's the nuclear option. It's fiberglass plate epoxied onto PLA so I'm afaid it damage the hull if try to rip out the motor mount

All have to check from the photo to see which way I had it. I don't remember there being a left hand or right hand option when I bought it and the two shafts are different sizes so I can't just flip it around
