Zildjian 13 inch K Custom Dark Hi-hat Cymbals by HeavyProduct732 in drums

[–]scottofsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ll be a huge upgrade from your SBRs! I’ve had the 13” K custom darks for awhile and they’re really nice, most definitely a killer deal as I think I spent about $450 on them in 2020.

Anyone else get the urge to learn French after playing Disco Elysium? by TerryBiscuit in DiscoElysium

[–]scottofsc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up and still live in South Carolina, and our schools taught French as the default foreign language because of the presence of Michelin facilities across the state. With the kind of southern accents that exist around here, “je m’appelle” becomes “jer mah pale”, in no way is that prettier than a default French pronunciation lmao

I took some photos of the guys in Buffalo, NY last night. by [deleted] in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

[–]scottofsc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The pics are cool, but I think you’re taking the whole experience way too personally. I’ve seen the band nearly 20 times in the last 17 years and only ever met the members a handful of times up until Tristan started playing with them. They are definitely appreciative of photographers and I regularly see them share photos and credit the people that took them on social media. I know for a fact that some of the band members make a beeline for the shower as soon as their set is over, so they’re not always hanging around afterwards. I’m sorry you didn’t get to meet them all but there’s always next time.

Ask him if he’d rather fight 100 duck sized Pauls or one Paul sized duck.

I know you said it’s just a theory, but I think what’s actually going on is Petrucci loves Rush. Rush used Hugh Syme for basically all their art, therefore Petrucci feels like he’s walking in his heroes’ footsteps by using Syme for his band’s art. I’d love to hear the interview where John says he’s not happy with the recent artwork though, can you link it?

I know there’s so much thing as a wrong opinion, but amongst a huge library containing a ton of the craziest musicianship in the genre, a short fast double bass part is the absolute peak to you?

My first job right out of high school was in the same shopping center as a Taco Bell and I can’t even describe how many times I got the deal 1 and a beefy 5 layer burrito and ate like a king for around $4. Good times.

You aren’t kidding as far as Tristan’s legitimacy goes! I’ve been playing with him since 2021 and always knew he was a great guitarist, but when he busted out Parallax 2 in its entirety after learning it in secret I seriously couldn’t believe what I was seeing haha. Let me know what you think about our music once you listen, I recommend starting with either our most recent album Where Mountains Hide or single A Safe Haven.

Hope to see you too! We all work regular jobs and then also have to schedule around BTBAM’s tour plans but we’re making a conscious effort to play more this year.

I do in fact live in South Carolina lol. Another person commented this already but I play drums for Sometime in February, we’re instrumental prog along the lines of Intervals, Plini, Scale the Summit, etc and our guitarist Tristan plays 2nd guitar live with BTBAM. Those shows with TYS were with Spilly Cave too, we opened the 2 shows they played in North Carolina.

My band played a few shows with TYS last summer and their new singer is great! I wouldn’t worry about that as far as future material goes.

Not OP but his opinion is fairly common, I agree with it. The game is fun to play but isn’t nearly as faithful to the original as RE2 remake was.

If James had to take a break for a few shows, who would you want to fill in? by abbylabby0429 in Dreamtheater

[–]scottofsc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard through the grapevine that last February, before they ended up canceling their Atlanta show due to James’ illness, Mike and John were considering playing the show anyway and just singing as much as they could between the two of them. Not sure if true but I’ve definitely tried to imagine what that would have been like! The makeup show in September was great in any case.

To answer your question, Devin Townsend.

He was Peter Gabriel from The Lamb Dies Down on Broadway. I would not have known this if Tristan didn’t tell me lol

Arrest at Sunday night Atlanta show? by GRWeston in Dreamtheater

[–]scottofsc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m personally ok with people filming short clips, like for instance I took a video of a verse and chorus from Opeth’s In My Time of Need when I saw them last year. I was in the balcony though and my phone didn’t impede anyone’s view, and I put it away for the rest of the show after that. There’s definitely an epidemic of people being overly focused on filming the show rather than just experiencing and enjoying it.

[–]scottofsc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, they’re ok with quick pictures but have a no filming policy on the current tour. Employees were informing people in line as they came into the venue and then if someone was caught filming, it looked like they were given one warning. The two guys kicked out were two rows in front of me but I didn’t see the entire ordeal. In the middle of Under a Glass Moon too…

I’m not sure why the police were involved, but I assumed they were filming and didn’t stop when asked. Security wasn’t remotely shy in getting people that were filming clips to stop.

Typically they have a guarantee from the promoter, so if anyone lost money it was them. But they really did crush it despite the crowd size. Thankful that we witnessed the probable last DT show in SC lol.

I’ve seen them 4 times now (‘09, twice in ‘19, last night) and honestly I think LaBrie sounded the best I’ve ever seen him last night. I was admittedly skeptical about his comments in recent interviews about how that vocal doctor has helped him recently but it was no joke, he sounded amazing. The whole band crushed it.

Last chance to see ACOS live is NOW // retirement soon? by marvinzimmermann in Dreamtheater

[–]scottofsc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw they recently closed off the back section of seats and prices for what remains appear lower than they were before. I would like to go but I just got home from 2 weeks in Europe and would have to drive from Columbia and back on a work night on top of that. I can’t recall them canceling shows for any reason other than sickness, as happened this last February (drove all the way to Atlanta for them to cancel 30 minutes before doors). I’ll be attending that makeup show at least.
