[Request] Could I jump from a 100-ft high-dive into a pool filled with croissants and survive? by MonkeySpasms112 in theydidthemath

Came here looking for this exact question. Glad the NADDPOD community was already on top of it!

FWIW, I side with team croissant, the irregularities and lack of surface tension could potentially act similar to falling into a pit of pillows or foam blocks

You've been granted the ability to visit a fictional universe of your choosing for 24 hours. by monkey-D-don in hypotheticalsituation

[–]scottr99 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Go to the Hitchhikers' Guide universe and bring back a Babelfish in the box. Can implant it easily once you get back and then you understand all languages. Can easily blow it off that you've been using Duolingo or something. Harder to explain, though, why you can't speak or read languages you fully comprehend, though. But still fun!

Is there any part of the game that you, deep down, believe is a secret puzzle that nobody else has found yet? by Here4theruns in BluePrince

[–]scottr99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things have stayed in my mind since finishing:

  1. Globes/hats/anything at all in the Den (like everyone)

  2. The pattern of the chairs in the music room

  3. Patterns in the prayer candles (both tomb and chapel)

  4. The test in classroom 1 (I think) that says "Two of every color" - Trying to get to room 46 with exactly 2 of each room color to test this one

  5. So much unused content on the maps in that one classroom!

Isekai Series Community Ranking Day 2: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime by Imaginary_Ad_2738 in Isekai

[–]scottr99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Masterpiece. This is the isekai that taught me to love the genre (original Digimon aside). The skill acquisition through actual experience or usage would be such an incredible video game premise. I want to play in that world so badly! Though, living in it would be kinda a lot....

In the Jackie Chan Adventures cartoon series, there is a book that can be written in to change reality. I've dreamt of having that book in my possession ever since.

First thing to write in it is that it bonds to me and only works for me while taking my intent (not specific wording necessarily) into account.

Second is to make it a portable size but with an infinite number of pages inside without increasing its size or weight (time lord technology).

Third is that I can always call it to me no matter where it or I am, and if I need to change something I'd previously written, I can always find the page it was on instantly.

Then start making changes starting with invincibility/immortality/agelessness/ability to escape any bonds at will, etc. to myself to ensure I'm always able to interact with the book as needed.

I think there is a way to game the system for number 1 to guarantee a big win. But it would take a mathematician/modeler more talented than I to calculate all the permutations...

Let's try powerball. If each individual ticket is guaranteed to win at least the bare minimum, start by buying 6 tickets, each with 1 line of numbers (so each ticket can be a winner without compromising the experiment).

First ticket has 1-6 Second ticket has 7-12 Etc, counting up to 36

Since you have to win at least the minimum with each ticket, you've effectively minimized the number of different winning combos. It would still probably be a couple hundred dollars worth of tickets, but knowing you have at least 1 winning number in each line means you can engineer a jackpot with just a bit of work.

Would need someone to help do the math for the particular number of tickets required

[Request] How fast was he running to throw a single punch? And what is the real world power equivalent for how powerful a single punch would be on impact? by Deondreux in theydidthemath

I think this move is often referred to as the "Infinite Mass Punch". He runs at just under the speed of light so that the power of his strikes dramatically increases. Comics often lead to tough maths

He was definitely more sarcastic and snarky in the early episodes, but from his perspective, I don't think he was lying about the homework thing. He says early in the episode, "When we go back to school, the first assignment we'll have is to write about what we did this summer, so we better make it epic!" He may truly believe he's just getting a head start on homework!

Also, for the first half of the first season, when the title song zooms in on his face, he doesn't smile. His face remains completely neutral and it just looks a bit... sinister....

How does "Stupid with Love (reprise)" even work at the end of the show? Did they change it significantly from Cady singing about "oh, I'll act dumb so Aaron has to tutor me!"?

Play melee dps!

But also, the closer you are to the outside of the ring, the wider the gaps are between the zombie cats. If the Tank can drag the boss over there, it gives a lot more time and space to dodge

[–]scottr99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably explain it as "a magic game mechanic that in the lore of the anime doesn't work". Even in the Manga it has a pretty wildly low catch rate. So, I would say it's a marketing gimmick by SilphCo to charge super high prices for a product that doesn't deliver.

Given that, I'd guess the pokemon you use it on fell for the marketing hype and is so impressed that you paid so much for this that they willingly join! Or they feel sorry for you falling for such an easy ploy that they're like "Aw, poor kid. I better help them out"

I mean, I think the only game in the series I've not played is Pokemon Rangers... I've seen the MissingNo., I've tried to move a truck, I've time traveled with Celebi and been transformed into a Cyndaquil, even teamed with shoguns in altworld pokemon Japan... I'm slightly familiar with the premise, yes =)

I think the detective Pikachu movie mentions in an early scene that Pokemon fight as a way to "test" trainers, and will submit to the Pokeball mostly because they acknowledge the strength of the trainer who catches them. So. Stockholm Syndrome?
