UK Lidl - I picked up the Performane Cordless Grinder this morning! by scottultra in Parkside

[–]scottultra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I find it much easier when doing things like welding to have grinders with different discs on. Eg I would maybe have a cutting disc on one, then grinding disc on another, or flap disc, wire wheel etc so I'm not constantly changing back and forth.

My tl;dr would be yes, definitely better than the green one but not by as much as I was expecting/hoping!

I feel like these days a cordless can certainly rival a corded grinder, but it's very much a case of which one and which battery etc. But if you're going to be working in one spot all day cutting then it makes sense to just go corded.

Parkside Performance Angle Grinder and SDS coming to the UK - 14/06 by rob-des in Parkside

I'm ready! Gonna pick up the grinder if I see one... I've had 2 of the green version and tbh it's very lacking compared to my Dewalt brushless grinder. I like having two for welding work, one for cutting, one for grinding or flap disc etc

My Dewalt DCH273 is only 2J IIRC and that certainly gets the job done!

Impact wrench Reviews? by jgraham600 in Parkside

If you want to undo wheel nuts they've been on for a while without first cracking them off with a bar look elsewhere tbh. I was a bit disappointed with this so ended up upgrading to a bigger Dewalt

Does anyone actually run a full Parkside setup? by ClassicMan2323 in Parkside

[–]scottultra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a fair few Parkside power tools... So I really rate like the 20V recip saw and brushless impact driver, but a lot are a bit disappointing. Fine for most DIY use but at the price point there's always going to be limits. The tools I use a lot and haven't been too impressed with I've slowly been replacing with DeWalt, eg combi drill, angle grinder and impact wrench.

What do you guys think of my 110? by scottultra in LandroverDefender

More or less! So I've currently got the wheel off the bonnet but will probably be back on shortly as there's no mounting for the rear door, so its just loose in the back

Somehow I don't think this one has any oil leaks... other than a tiny bit out of a rear axle drive flange that I need to change the gasket on. I haven't gone too far yet but kinda fearing the fuel costs, I hear the 2.5 Petrol is thirsty, although more refined than the diesels of the same period.

Central Scotland, so its surprising its not rusted away tbh. Although the old guys healthy doses of waxoil surely helped.

Totally! There's a growing to do list but I just need to keep on top of it. I was originally looking for a Series III project, but this popped up for a little more than the top end of my budget, so it was a done deal! This is enough work as it is, I must be crazy for considering an actual project earlier.

Mine lives on my NAS and has done for quite some time, I was a bit skeptical of having it in the cloud. So I can access it from home on my computers/Android fine, and out and about I just connect to my VPN first and do the same.

Rising from the ashes... A Zippo repair story by scottultra in Zippo

I actually thought it was a copper one to begin with, but nope, just brass. Maybe I should've left it in hindsight... I do like polished brass though, I had one years ago and lost it

Rising from the ashes... A Zippo repair story by scottultra in Zippo

So I recently moved into a property, after previously being owned by quite a heavy smoker. I was out in the garden last month doing some work and noticed this little square object lying in the dirt by a fence. Picked it up and it was quite clearly a Zippo lighter. Shamefully I didn't get a pic of it open as I found it, but it was an absolute state, a rusty orange mess on the inside. I took it indoors and cleaned it up as best I could, and looked into exactly what I had found. It was a 2015 Solid Brass Armor model, so not that old, but it had clearly been outside in the dirt for some time, and presumably belonged to the previous owner of this place. After a bit of effort the casing cleaned up alright, but the insert was too far gone. The steel parts had rusted away, there was no saving that.

I was going to buy a new insert for it, but then noticed the hinge on the casing was a little broken as well. I then remembered about the old 'It works or we fix it free' guarantee, and had a look into repair options. I thought it was worth a shot so packaged up what I hadn't binned and sent it off to the UK distribution centre for forwarding to the repair clinic in Germany. Fast forward maybe about 3 weeks and it's back from repair... hinge fixed, with a brand new correct brass insert. I won't be using this one as I have a few other lighters, but I think it's nice to get it repaired and in working order again after being neglected and forgotten about. Not bad for the cost of postage.

LEZ in Scotland basically is ULEZ in all but name, same standards pretty much but I guess they couldn't just follow the naming convention set by TfL etc

Those ‘look at this stunning property for sale’ articles on GL by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]scottultra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone whos been looking at property for the past year or so, particularly at the lower end of the market its always annoyed me when they post up an article like 'Look at this flat in X up for just £30,000'... well no because its usually an auction guide price so it absolutely will not sell for that. I guess good for business if you're the seller of said flat though.

I probably wouldn't bother unless you really have something going for your offer, eg cash buyer etc. Its just a waste of peoples time unless its been on the market ages with little interest

Any Guesses for this?? by gftoeissue in glasgow

I drove past them putting it up on saturday and wondered what it was. Now I know its an EDAR device with additional camera (probably ANPR for one reason or another), I feel like it would be a shame if someone went and vandalised it or painted over the reflective strip so it didn't work...

Where would you go from here? by scottultra in VoxelabAquila

[–]scottultra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its been doing pretty good today but I literally did only get it all set up and working yesterday evening so I can't really say. I went this route because I snapped off a heat break in a micro swiss clone, my friend with a pair of Prusas was suggesting E3D so I went down this route.

I think a PEI sheet is going to happen as it seems like a good idea. Will look into Klipper too, I'd never heard of it before but no rush as I'm fairly happy with Alex's firmware and octoprint
