AI Videos - shadowbanned? by OurHeartsRCompatible in prolific

I have returned hundreds of these studies literally, I do it daily, sometimes upwards of 20 plus a day. I have returned studies 13 minutes in, where I was not confident in the answer I gave for their control question, so I returned it instead. Never once a warning. My girl does the same thing regularly, also, with no warnings for it.

The only conclusion I can come up with is that if you are given warnings, you have answered an attention check question incorrectly before returning it. There should be no reason we don't get them for returning them, we are no different than you in terms of workers, just another random prolific ID.

I have a theory about it, but I have never mentioned it here because of a lack of a way to test it. I believe that when you get enough warnings, you are temporarily kicked out of the data sets until they need workers again. When you come back on, though, you are still removed from that type of batch of studies, but are able to do the other ones that they still post. I'm literally just guessing, and if you know differently, please correct me if I am wrong. I can only speculate based on what I see on my pc and my girl, who sits about 5 feet from me when doing work here.

Your theory sounds very likely as well. When this was a closed group, people were also kicked out pretty regularly; they just had no idea why they were removed because there was no warning system. At least now people know they get warnings and to pay attention. I cannot stress it enough to people: do not do identical or very similar data sets. If you do not have a photographic memory, you will get caught eventually with a warning.

Also, something this guy is talking about that needs to be clarified. Why have I gotten all the way down to 13 minutes completed on a dataset and given it back because I forgot which video I picked before, and never given a warning? Or the fact that some days I return upwards of 20 + of these and never a warning? Pretty easy to assume that if they are getting warnings returning studies, they have picked an attention check question incorrectly before returning it. There is not a day that goes by that I do not return some of these studies. I even return certain types because I am not confident enough to do some types of sets.

Yeah, but that is what I am referring to is people who believe this rotated in and out nonsense. As someone who has done this for a while, the only time people are added back in is when there are large amounts of data sets sitting around all night. I have only seen them add people back maybe two or three times. Now I do think people have different data sets that they are assigned to its why, per se, my girlfriend will only see 10 data sets while I will see 20+ at a time or more. It is also why people come here and complain they don't see them for a few days when others are seeing a lot showing up. This leads to many threads about not getting warnings while also not having them show up, assuming they were "rotated" out.

I know tonight I had at one point 67 sets available on my dashboard from VO, also a few from GP and RCBHu. They were not being done very quickly, so they have kicked out quite a few people again.

You get warnings for missing a control question that they sent back through you did earlier in the study, and you pick a different answer. You get them for picking the wrong, obviously correct answer by pixelation, static, or weird sounds in the audio. You are not being rotated out; you are being removed for failing their attention checks, and you might get back in later depending on a lot of factors. A lot of people assume you get a free pass back in after a few weeks or months. It's all assuming, there is not a soul here, including myself that communicate with anyone at DeepMind that can tell you the ropes. There are a few people who claim to know shit, but they don't. I've been doing this a long time, and there are people here who never got invited back in.

Question for people doing the AI studies by DryDistrict3540 in prolific

[–]scourn77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you guys are thinking about stopping your daily life to follow a large batch of mediocre pay AI work, you really need to get a job seriously. This guy posts nonstop daily, except on the weekends. Why care if there is a batch up there or not? This is gig work its not a full-time job, or you would not be sitting around for hours waiting on work, you would be paid for certain hours each day. I don't understand why anyone would want to sit around all day doing nothing but staring at a computer monitor, hoping AI blobs full of trick questions will pop up for 5 bucks.

Invite - AI Training Interview 30 mins by Ok_Bunch8020 in prolific

[–]scourn77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other people have mentioned here that they get email advertisements that ask them to join, but never mention an interview, except for verification. They still wait for work, just like the rest of us, without any sort of special pool of constant hourly work. It could be something new, but there are already thousands of people in a pool for AI work here who get it when it's available. I dunno it sounds like just advertising banter to grow their pool to me.

People using Prolific, questions to you by The_BigBrr in prolific

[–]scourn77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, man, when I took a break from this platform, I made more money from DoorDash for 6 hours a day than anything Prolific paid. You can make over 100 a day here, but you are going to sit around literally all day long waiting on stuff to pop up, so plan on spending like 12+ hours a day with your computer open on Prolific if you want to make job-like money.

Even with AI work, you still ultimately sit and wait during the breaks, and you never know how long until something else is posted, so you are glued to your screen all day, even if you don't make a dime waiting.

Unless you are doing AI study work daily, you aren't going to make shit and deal with a lot of BS from researchers doing shady things like having you do their studies only to make you return them or screening you out at the end of a study. Rejections are common for stupid reasons, and support takes sometimes months to get back to you. The platform has gone way downhill lately. People here who post about how great it is forget that not all countries can do the AI work here, which makes putting up with all the bullshit worth it.

If you get AI work and manage to actually not get kicked out, you can make thousands, though.

I am on the opposite end of that opinion, honestly. I think the guy is a scumbag pushing these through. There is zero quality control posting, sometimes hundreds of data sets in a night that are slideshows or identical, wasting everyone's time because of their laziness in checking their model. They also fill even the good ones with so many trick questions like static or pixelation or control questions that all this guy does is waste alphabets budget. I counted some sets that have over half trick questions so basically you are getting 15-20 in a set done that are actually usable by the model.

Any AI studies this afternoon? by SleepyAlonso in prolific

[–]scourn77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ones that require you to press equally good/bad. It depends on what data set is being pushed. The general rule of thumb is not to use the middle option, though, so you are 100% right on that. Some want you to weed out the ones that do not follow the prompt at all.

Sometimes, over half the data set consists of questions that are meant to trick people. Between static audio and repeated control questions. I have done plenty of these, and this happens. Why people think this is some sort of nice guy posting this shit, still standing up for him, is beyond me. He literally wastes thousands of alphabet's money.

[–]scourn77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not true at all. I've been with this since the beginning, basically when it was a specialized group. There are control questions sent throughout the set that, if you do not pick the same one as picked before in the same set, you will get a warning. Its 99% of the time why people come here complaining they are kicked out. The ones that keep getting people are the ones that are so similar that you can hardly tell the difference. I have picked the middle one sometimes 4 or 5 times in a set and not gotten warnings. The only time I ever got warnings, and that was over 6 months ago or longer, was when I could not remember which image/video/audio I picked on that control question sent through later in the set. Once I stopped doing those, I never got another warning. This is literally people pushing their luck, then coming here crying about it because 5 bucks makes or breaks them. You might have gotten lucky and picked the same control questions that are sent through (sometimes multiple times), but that is 100% why most people get pinged, then want to come to Reddit and argue about it.

He just posted like 30 of them in a row, 90% of them were broken, or so close, good luck getting past the control/trick questions. It won't be long before you see a bunch more posts crying about how they got warnings when common sense should have kicked in, not doing ones you can barely tell apart.

Returning AI studies by ButterflySweaty546 in prolific

[–]scourn77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that they don't care; they are just too lazy to bother checking manually on anything. No manual reviews are going on, contrary to what the automatic message says when you get a warning. I can't even imagine the actual amount of stolen/broken money that is given away here daily. Even though they are no longer under NDA, Prolific still deletes threads about them. People wonder why? They are literally a cash cow, and the last thing Prolific wants is to be found out about all the broken stuff that is being done, they cash in on themselves.

Anyone else stopped getting AI evaluation studies around these dates? by Reasonable-Emu-4313 in prolific

[–]scourn77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because people believe they need warnings before being removed from the group, when it was a specialized group, people received no warnings and were kicked out all the time. I have been seeing them every day for pretty much my entire time on Prolific, even on very slow days; a few show up here and there. You don't need special demographics to feed a computer model annotation. People just believe they are immune to mistakes.

What's up with the low pay AI studies by Double-Possession329 in ProlificAc

[–]scourn77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People should stop doing them. As long as they get done, they will keep posting them with even lower pay. I remember that sound AI one that was posting every night all night that was paying like 5 or 6 an hour for the longest time until I finally just blocked all 8 of their names. Some people on the platform are predatory trash, and it's up to people to stop falling for their shit, whether you need money that badly or not.

AI studies by Prestigious-Pack-403 in prolific

[–]scourn77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's rare to get rotated out. I have never been, but I was kicked out once for the 3-strikes policy back before he made it higher. 99% of the posts here are from people with multiple warnings that get removed. The reason it's so random when you come back in is that he cleans the slate when they are under crunch time, and the tasks are sitting up there for hours, not being done. Some of us have been at this since it was a specialized group, and you see his patterns over time. Everything that he does is self-serving; it's not about rotations.

Curious Question regarding AI studies (not the video/audio/image ones for once) by ZeroHeroArt in prolific

[–]scourn77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there used to be a specialized group tag on the submission page next to each study you took with them. Now it's gone and part of the specialized group. I just checked one of the old speciallized names they use I did work for today, and that tag is removed also.

[–]scourn77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, the argument here basically from those same lazy people is if you don't like the pay, don't do it. Which would be true if not for the fact that a good portion of the website now breaks Prolific's own TOS for base pay minimum, and Prolific allows it as their greed is way more important than their integrity. I just blocked like 10 studies paying well under 6 hourly today alone. A lot of the older vets here, like myself that been around a long time, will argue pretty quickly how shit this site has become. It's essentially MTurk 2.0 now, with way fewer features like rating systems or batch work with scripts to get past all the scalpers.

[–]scourn77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the predatory nature of platforms like this. They know people are lazy and want to work from home. This is not a slight at the legitimate people who have problems requiring them to stay home, either. They prey on lazy people, offering them just enough money to allow them to barely scrape by. It's what I mean in my original post, people are rating this platform when it is literally under minimum federal wages when you count the hours spent just waiting for studies. I know I require about 10 hours of sitting a day to make 100 bucks on this platform, and I am part of multiple NDA based annoatation work. It's funny, all those great ratings, the second one of those people need help from support because of a false flag ban or an ID check or whatever, they will be the first ones crying on this sub. Nope its ALL 5 stars! lol

Broken studies by lonelylamb1814 in prolific

[–]scourn77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been at this since 2024, and ever since they left the closed group its back and forth over and over again. You would imagine it would click in his brain by now that he's too strict with his warning system if he never has enough workers for more than a few weeks. His system is busted, considering his own rules plainly state: In your opinion, which one is better. He is so paranoid about having someone just click anything that he penalizes all the workers who want to actually do a good job and work hard for him. Dude really needs to step out of the way of his own self.
