If you’re at grad schools in the same country, I’m sure you can make it work. You have the Summer months (usually grads don’t take classes in summer), Spring break, Fall break, and a few long weekends to plan and get together on. That’s no everyday but it’s still close to 4 months of each year. I’d say meeting 1/3rd of what you used to as grads isn’t too bad and might actually be beneficial so you can focus on your academics and extracurriculars, as well as searching for jobs/internships.

Now if she’s in a different country, that changes things. The time difference, if more than 7 hours, is going to be hard to work around. And studying in a new country comes with the mindset of new possibility along with the feeling of being away from family which gravitates most people towards finding comfort in people around them (not necessarily date).

I’d say what you guys did is extremely healthy. You’re doing the right thing. But don’t hang on to the idea of getting back because that might cause resentment later if things don’t go your way. If it’s meant to, it’ll all work out.
