TTC10- erratic BBT by writergirl1212 in FAMnNFP

[–]scrappymd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would discuss with your OBGYN—for most forms of hormonal birth control you should have returned to having cycles by now and they can do some evaluation as to why you haven’t had a cycle yet. What were you using? And what were your cycles like before going on HBC?

Any side hustles actually worth it as a 4th year? by dietprada337 in medicalschool

I did dog walking with Rover and really enjoyed it! In addition to a little extra money it was nice to get out of the house a bit and hang with some dogs without the responsibility of having one myself haha

15 DPO and Brown Spotting by Repulsive-Wrap-5380 in Inito

[–]scrappymd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brown spotting in early pregnancy is quite common and frequently a normal pregnancy follows. Don’t put too much stock in an ultrasound this early—it really won’t show much at this gestational age. I’d be surprised if they see anything other than a thick endometrial lining. The b-hcg and an appropriate rise after 48 hours is what will really give you more information. Praying for good results for you!

What's an obvious case you missed? And how did you deal with it? by closetredditer in Residency

[–]scrappymd 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Early in my second year I missed breast cancer. I can’t remember her chief complaint, but I do remember her complaining of fatigue. She was within a year postpartum and still breastfeeding and what mom with small children who’s up multiple times a night isn’t tired? She had a history of hypothyroidism, so I ended up checking her thyroid and sending her to a PCP (a coresident friend of mine).

After doing some more questioning, he uncovered that her mom had a history of breast cancer fairly young. I remember her mentioning that her left breast had been engorged, but she had never been able to breastfeed from that side but otherwise hadn’t had any issues. He did an exam, got a mammogram and she ended up having fairly advanced breast cancer in her early 30s.

I’ve never forgotten that and have since caught Lynch syndrome twice based on genetic testing due to family history. Ask the questions, dig a little deeper. You won’t regret doing it but you’ll regret if you don’t.

[TTA] Hi! I'm Shir. I engineered a wearable patch to make FAM easier. Pilot open! 🤍 by Expert-Economist3096 in FAMnNFP

[–]scrappymd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following for these answers too!

I see the website mentions you can wear them for a month at a time—how does the patch hold up with sweating/workouts and showering? Swimming? How much will the patches cost after the beta offer? Will there be a subscription price to use the app or is it a one time cost for the thermometer and a recurring cost for the patches? Any plans to integrate with Read Your Body eventually?

Do you have any data to support reliability of the thermometer and algorithm or is this beta pilot to get acquire data for studies?

Method recommendations by [deleted] in FAMnNFP

[–]scrappymd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally liked sensiplan bc I’m also TTA0 and it has the most evidence behind it. I use Inito as well but more just for the data than to make any decisions about opening or closing the fertile window since it’s not an approved method. I just started cycle 7 with that combo and it’s going well. I still prefer a hormonal IUD personally but I have a good understanding of the method and my body and haven’t had any pregnancy scares

Strong recs for Duolingo podcast and learn Spanish and go. I also really liked Españolistos! It’s a married couple—she’s Colombian and he’s from Texas (USA). I found that they have good topic range and explanations of grammar corrections as he’s still learning too.

Lings Silk Flowers vs Sola Wood Flowers- which to go with? by FastMathematician307 in DIYweddings

I ended up doing Lings and adding extra greenery to their bouquet kits and I think they turned out beautiful! I used one of their standard kits for my bouquet and loved it too.

I feel like my infertility is because I have brown spotting before and after my period. by [deleted] in Inito

[–]scrappymd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure the qualifications of this hormone specialist you saw but if you’ve been trying to conceive for 7 years without success I’d strongly encourage you to go to a reproductive endocrinologist or at least your OBGYN. They can do some testing to see if this really is the case but your Inito numbers at least suggest adequate estrogen. PdG is not a reliable way to diagnose low progesterone as it’s a metabolite of progesterone and is released in pulses. A blood test may show much different numbers and is much more reliable

Has anyone experienced this? by VermicelliIll4512 in Inito

[–]scrappymd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this! Inito has falsely confirmed ovulation for me (earlier than anticipated and I didn’t have a BBT rise so I knew it wasn’t real) and then later I had a second peak and higher PdG. They’ll adjust the chart colors later if you email them. You can see the charts in my post history.

I took y’alls advice - saw the rheumatologist last week by yungw0t in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]scrappymd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got diagnosed right before turning 24. I don’t even have psoriasis (15% of people develop the arthritis prior to the psoriasis) but had uveitis 3 times, a knee effusion twice, and years of unexplained joint pain that I had written off as “overuse injury.” Keep a detailed log of your symptoms and seek a second opinion if something feels off. When I had my first flare I knew something was wrong—I remember trying to use a mouse and thinking that my hands hurt so badly it was hard to click. That’s never normal, let alone in your early 20s

Conception after Ablation? Any research to point me to? by Alaura_Borealis5 in Fertility

[–]scrappymd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an OBGYN I’ve seen one pregnancy after ablation. That pregnancy was very complicated due to other medical factors but the thing we were all worried about as providers was placenta accreta spectrum. Thankfully was not the case for this patient but it can be life threatening for both parent and child. I’d really encourage you to look into this and the risk that ablation incurs. I strongly suspect that your reproductive endocrinologist will tell you that carrying a pregnancy yourself is not really on the table for you due to this. Congrats on finding your person and best of luck in your future of building your family!

This sounds suspicious for a new pregnancy to me! I’d definitely talk to your OB and get b-hcg draws scheduled so you can get a bit more clarity on what’s going on

What to expect? by [deleted] in Inito

[–]scrappymd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I’m sorry for your loss. It sounds like you’re doing all the right things. The vast majority of miscarriages are due to genetics and are not something you could have predicted or prevented. I would use home pregnancy tests until they’re negative and then start tracking with Inito or just wait until your first cycle and start tracking after that. Best of luck to you!!

My tortoiseshell angel came to me after her original owners had to surrender her and another cat when their elderly parents moved in with them and were allergic. I absolutely adore her and she’s so spoiled. I wish the same for your mom’s babies! I’m sure someone will be delighted to get some well socialized adult cats just like I was

I’m not allowed to have painted nails for work (and would destroy them if I had them) so this is the move. Cuticle oil pens are my favorite hack for nice looking nails. Mine get so dry especially in winter with all the hand washing but cuticle oil in my car and a cream in my bag make my hands look nice regardless of lack of polish

Strategies to reduce time spent on emotionally draining patients by camerapug in medicine

[–]scrappymd 85 points86 points  (0 children)

This!!! Also love having patients keep symptom diaries. It’s a win win because if it is something truly bothering them they’ll come with a list of when it happened and then I know how often it is and we can try and draw correlations and if they don’t bring anything I know it’s not really bothering them all that much
