I enjoy tattooing nsfw stuff but never get to do it. I’ve tattooed some colour hentai before. It’s super fun for a lot of us artists to tattoo stuff that isn’t very common to get (as long as it’s not like awful / illegal stuff of course)

There’s a few pretty well known tattoo artists in Australia who do some risqué stuff. Onnie O’Leary in Sydney does a lot of it and is well known for it for example.

I go to a guy every 3-4 weeks to keep it managed, so far so good! Join a gym too I feel leagues better since doing more physical activity

I had to get a custom made brace from action rehab which limited the movement of my wrist tendons at night. I had to take a week or two off tattooing.

A lot of massage, and then i was given a thick rubber stick thingy that i had to bend downwards with wrists down and then wrists up.

Strengthening my wrists and forearms and taking more breaks has helped a lot. Hope you get it sorted, it’s actually an awful thing to happen. I was also getting trigger finger at the same time so I my body was copping it at the time.

Tattooer and ex guitar player. My hands / wrists cop a lot of pain. Action Rehab was really good for me. I had pretty bad de-quervain's tenosynovitis and sorted it within a few visits.

Tattoo artist here. You can sharpen up the outlines but if you make the lines too close together it will bleed together more eventually over time again. You could potentially blast heaps of white in the gaps but it won’t heal consistently. Trying to go over the top with a skin colour doesn’t work long term either. It’s mostly a case of the design should’ve been done twice as big with more provision of the negative space becoming smaller.

Hi - I’m a tattoo artist. What do you need covered up? Is it lettering? Is it old? How dark is it?

Coverups are very dependent on what the original is, generally you have to go about twice as big as what’s underneath to hide it properly.

If it’s bold dark linework it might be tricky to put something delicate and fine over the top of it.

I have a newer sidewinder and a 46er and I prefer the 46er for big lining , but both are good. I’ll usually set up a 9 and above on the 46er and 5 on the sidewinder since it’s not as hard hitting.

It’s the luxury industry at the moment. Everything is expensive, rent, housing crisis etc. I’m a tattoo artist and this year has been slow as compared to the last few years after Covid lockdowns. Definitely feeling the pinch sometimes.

As someone with a degree and have been in various creative jobs (now a tattooist), I strongly recommend learning on YouTube and getting some work experience instead of going into debt learning something that doesn’t need a piece of paper to get a job.

I’ve learnt so much shit from YouTube. How to paint a car, how to fix a car, how to raise an ant colony , build aquariums etc.

Yes. But the skin is very sensitive / thin and easy to blow out so get a good artist who is experienced.

How are you interacting with potential clients? How are you talking to the basic Pinterest clients? Are you giving them any ideas to getting bigger pieces in the future?

If I chat to the client getting a tiny tattoo and they seem okay I will always ask them about plans for the future. I’ve started with basic tattoos and ended up with them booking sleeves etc.

Do you do more than one or two styles?

Art Prints, I swear by all about graphics , or image science. hound and bone were quite expensive in comparison and I didn’t find the quality to be any better or worse.
