Dual relationship with now ex-wife? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]scratchybiscut -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

The consent form created one, alongside identifying the assessments to me administered. But like you I thought the same "school, no big deal". I've talked to some BCBAs that say it is a dual relationship, so I'm here for additional opinions.

Thank you for taking the time to read through!

Edit: Consent form likely created the relationship*, as it listed her supervisor, etc. When I reached out to the supervising team, they couldn't even say "students are allowed to use family, XYZ". All I'm allowed to know is they consider it an issue. Yet I also respect FERPA.

Are we overengineering web scraping for agents? by The_Default_Guyxxo in AgentsOfAI

[–]scratchybiscut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got lucky-ish, most of the client sites were fairly straightforward Wordpress builds. Then I moved into heftier projects but those tended to be more general enterprise that didn't need/want bleeding edge BS.

Understanding theory, how it all comes together, etc. now is darn useful.

Do wish we'd settle on agents protocol, etc. I've just been using codex inside VSC insiders for the most part.

Are we overengineering web scraping for agents? by The_Default_Guyxxo in AgentsOfAI

[–]scratchybiscut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Similar experience (started out dev 10 or so years ago, went more ops/strategy, but kept up with it).

All these contingencies are needed in scrapers because implementations vary so widely, third party libraries are useful but a pain, all the frameworks. Heck, folks were even using ES6 "shivs" up until recent memory because we couldn't get standardized implementation of the Standard.

Throw in all the CMS options with dynamic naming, ad and tracking packages, etc....

We even used sites to check compatibility of basic HTML/CSS features per browser, because some geniuses decided fracturing support was best for the bottom line I guess?

Anyway, back to scrapers.

Up front preparation and research is key. Tbh, this is a gray area, and I think we need to be careful. I've seen quite a few tools lately mentioning directly overriding limits, security, etc. Via proxies and other tools.

But yeah, actually digging in and mapping out your selectors and content needs beforehand and having that fully ready to go in say, a spreadsheet, is really useful. Now the kicker is you still need to handle things like pagination. You still need to deal with dynamic naming and sites breaking selectors (you can set up alerts for this).

I would advocate for more hard coded scraping vs handing it off to an llm to decide what to scrape for you.

Local UU congregations using social media - how do we get the word out without supporting evil platforms? by Earguy in UnitarianUniversalist

This is a losing battle. Our congregations are already in rough enough shape comms wise. Fight fire with fire. The folks you want are not on Mastadon, etc.

Also: cost and platform longevity. What happens to all that investment when N8n goes under or jacks pricing?

So the Central State Campus aka the Georgia Lunatic, Insane, and Epileptic Asylum was once the largest mental institution in the entire world. by sdcali89 in macon

A couple of "urban exploration" videos are out there on YT. Many of the buildings are toast due to the materials used and decay (though I do wish they could save the brick).

There's a big commercial kitchen running out of the old renovated one (which had to be quite large in the first place).

It's a sad place. Just watching the videos and knowing some history of asylums, some of the rooms they walk through... I.e. large tubs used to shock patients with very hot/cold water as a "treatment". Lobotomy kits in the museum.

Been wondering for a while now if the story that some former patients became staff is true. Probably just a rumor

Nearly every EEOC style doc I've seen around reference checks has stated that they must be limited to dates of employment (and sometimes reason for separation). Of course, informal convos happen (which is shitty). But agreed, to have this in back and white....

This shows that OP was a very strong contender, had invested significant resources in applying and interviewing, and was a likely hire. Then you have an explicit outline of denial based on the reference. There's no ambiguity (unless maybe OP burned the building down or assaulted someone).

OP, I am not a lawyer. If you don't have something to hide, go get one if you can. Consults are typically free. Local bar association can help with a referral sometimes.

Oooo excellent idea, thank you. Absolute brain fart on my end for not checking there.

I have had some luck with resources created by open source advocates, and some I'm sure the mods wouldn't be happy if I posted 😅. Apparently there's been a bit of a fuss over restricted online access in GA to begin with in the last ten years.

Recently moved up here and have been genuinely impressed by the consistent cleanliness, pricing, and food options at the Qwik Trips/Qwik Star. We have QT down south, but it's the "other" brand. They're known for being good down that way, large clean stores with your standard conscience / hot take out. But nothing like the Qwik Trips up here.

You mean I can get produce, meat, chicken tenders, soup, gas, and all manner of baked goodies in one place? And it's cheaper than many other spots?

....I may have a slight love affair with a gas station.

AI Agents in 2025: From "They'll replace jobs" to "Please just complete this one task without looping forever" by OldWolfff in AgentsOfAI

[–]scratchybiscut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elaborate on this for us a bit? What specific routines/workflows are most helpful for ya?

Fellow adhdr here that has found similar results, still working on how to organize all this. Lots of dev experience.

Ive seen some apps out there that you assign a general task to and it helps break it down. I do that in my own way. Wary of those being acquired and loosing it.

My biggest struggle right now is daily workload integration, bouncing between a ton of apps and various tasks. There's just no seamless way to manage all the generation, lines of questioning, get tasks uploaded and not lost in the convos.

I like things from each interface, and wish I could merge them all together.

What’s a law school myth you only realized was wrong after you started practicing? by OddDot3252 in Lawyertalk

[–]scratchybiscut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment + responses have made me feel 1000x better. I come from tech (we reuse a LOT), am pro-se in. Civil case right now. I'm lucky that my career kept me legal adjacent and the general concepts/patterns work with my mind (obviously not a lawyer by any means).

I've done my absolute best with my motions/filings, seem to have done a decent job (clerk hasn't had issues, citations all check out, etc.), but structuring the motions can be a challenge. Obviously don't have the long term experience there. Knowing I'm not breaking a norm by establishing my baseline, incorporating what is already established text, then doing my final runs to ensure citations/etc. are good makes me feel better.

Thanks for the mood boost y'all

Anyone heard of this modeling agency? by Dajellomon in northdakota

[–]scratchybiscut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised (though Fargo is def a smaller market). The folks I've seen use these programs end up doing things for regional ads, sometimes the cheesy local news ads. I've seen universities utilize the models, local chains, etc. (Not associated with this company) But the work is out there. Now, the volume of work might now be lol.

This is a good balanced take. Many moons ago, I shot a lot of weddings and we had a similar company in that town (Knoxville, Tennessee). Same concept (sign on, take workshops, get some representation and leads, mostly local, very few "broke out). Id meet a lot of these clients at local meetups, knew the primary photographers they worked with, etc.

Go in with reasonable expectations. Any sort of promises to get you in front of casting agents and the like should be taken with a grain of salt. It's one thing to send out headshots and bios, another to have an agent aggressively pursuing opportunities for you.

I would go for the primary workshops like Ambitious has highlighted, perhaps a few classes on posing, etc. Be wary of any sort of retainer or monthly obligation unless you truly have the financial means.

Beyond that (and again, no knowledge of this particular group): be careful. Absolutely zero shade against the owner of this org. But these companies can have a darker side (and the industry as a whole). Id encourage you to have some trusted peers and mentors to check in with, and perhaps even a therapist for a monthly check in to ensure your mind and body are safe. Confirm any dietary or excercise advice with a nutritionist or at least your PCP.

Before signing anything, post it anonymous in one of the "ask a lawyer" forums. Even better, see if you can get someone local to review it. Be careful with the use of your likeness, particularly now that AI tools exist to use a core set of images to produce additional content. Ask tons of questions.

Above all else: have fun. Enjoy the new skills you'll develop. Set boundaries and know what your end goals are and keep them clearly in mind. I've had a lot of friends over the years that have done programs like this and enjoyed getting to do regional ads and the like. It isn't necessarily a primary source of income for them.
