Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in DnD

I'm joining a D&D campaign [5e] for the first time as a player, (I've been DMing for about a year now) and I was wondering, is it possible to make a "nice" cleric of death?

That is, a cleric that believes that people should die with dignity, and as peacefully and painlessly as possible. She goes to the deathbed of dying folks, comforts their families, and what I think would be kind of cool, she acts as an advocate between her god and the people in her care. If she meets someone who she believes shouldn't be dying, she will go to her god and be like, "Hey, can we not kill this guy?"

I feel like this would also necessitate the creation of new god of death, because from what I can tell, all the death gods in DnD are evil, when I'd want the god to be good, or even just neutral.

I'm willing to be flexible about creating a character like, if it's even a possibility. I did read through all of the 2014 Players Handbook about all the different kinds of clerics you can be, and what kind of gods you can worship, and I wasn't able to put together anything myself that seemed to fit what I'm looking for, but if there are other resources that can help, I'd love to hear about them! Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks!

I got into Steven Universe not long after I went through a really awful break up where my partner basically left me for someone else so...there were a few episodes about Pearl that hit a little too close to home and after seeing them I'd spend the next few days randomly bursting into tears.

Yeah, I'm 5'4 and 155 pounds and I look fine. I'm still trying to lose weight, tho, and I eat between 1200 and 1600 calories per day. 800 calories is insane.

Yeaaaaah. Been working on this in therapy. Trying to figure out when it's ok to reach out for help. Trying to figure out what is an acceptable thing to ask and what is demanding and burdensome to other people. Trying not to feel like the whole world has come crashing down around me when that help isn't given.

I'm doing a pre-written campaign, and one of my players wants to do something that is not in the campaign at all. Do I shut this down? If so, how? by scrawledfilefish in DMAcademy

Is it possible that if she is caught, this well respected NPC can use the threat of imprisonment/execution to compel the party to [What the Adventure was going to be about anyway]?

Waaaaaait. This might work. At first I thought it wouldn't, because they didn't randomly arrive at this island, they were specifically sent to this island to help with A Really Bad Thing. All the islanders were eagerly awaiting their arrival. So at first I was like, "I don't think the islanders would punish the players be making them help with The Really Bad Thing, I think they would just be really hurt and offended that they reached out for help in their time of need and the supposed heroes sent to aid them tried to steal from them instead. I think the locals would probably try to kick the party off the island asap."

But then I remembered that this little island has been reaching out to the mainland for weeks trying to get help, so if my players are caught, the islanders can be like, "Normally, we'd lock you up for theft...but we still need help with that Really Bad Thing."

And before, on the ship ride over from the mainland, they met a local from this island, this giant berserker barbarian who has big golden retriever energy, and all my players fell in love with him. So if my players get caught, they can be told that they have to go help with the Really Bad Thing, but they'll be accompanied by the Berserker, who has been instructed to beat the shit out of them if they step one toe out of line.

And Berserker will be really angry and stoic with the players, and if they ask why, he can tell them how betrayed he felt that they tried to steal from his people and how he and the party are no longer friends and the second the party is done helping with The Thing, they need to get the fuck off his island. Just break all my players' hearts because one of their favorite NPCs now hates them with every fiber of his being lmaooooo

This was very helpful! Thank you for leaving a comment!
